Concise Book of Trigger Points

Rate this book
Most muscular aches and pains are caused or affected by untreated "trigger points," localized tender spots in muscles. Understanding and treating these points can lead to rapid and lasting pain relief. Trigger point therapy is a powerful tool in the management of both acute and chronic pain, including such common problems as headaches, TMJ syndrome, and back pain.Written in a straightforward style, "The Concise Book of Trigger Points "is designed for the student and practitioner of massage/bodywork, physical therapy, physiotherapy, osteopathy, sports therapy, and any other health-related field. It functions both as an entry-level textbook and an authoritative reference for even the most experienced therapist. The first four chapters describe the physiology of trigger points and the general methods of treatment. The following six chapters are organized by muscle groups; each two-page spread features detailed color illustrations of each major skeletal muscle, accompanied by an explanation of each muscle's origin, insertion, action, and function. The physiological implications of the trigger points in each muscle are discussed, along with treatment techniques. This edition contains updated text and a self-help section addressing common pain complaints, including headache, neck pain, shoulder pain, lower back pain, and TMJ syndrome.

This book is written more for health care practitioners than for laypeople (when I showed it to my physical therapist, she was so impressed that she asked to borrow it till she could find her own copy!), but I like having it on hand to complement a more layperson-targeted book (my personal choice for the layperson category being The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook).

SF Library eBook - 5 stars.

Really great reference book!! Easy to understand and well set out.

I will probably not remember all the medical/scientific names of all the parts of the body, but it was interesting to read the mechanics of muscles and formation of trigger points and the research in this area. I have suffered from many injuries over the years and have had many physio appointments to deal with my tight muscles, slipped discs etc so I thought it was time to educate myself.

I know this is mainly for practitioners to diagnose patient problems, but what I liked, is the systematic way it identified issues around the body and the proposed treatment.

The self-help sections complete with diagrams was the most beneficial for me.

Excellent for someone heading to University for a physio degree this is the best test to find your interest in Physiology. Its got lots of diagrams to go with the study makes it intersting. Its a mix of mild and tough bit of study. If you use more references of the internet to go with this book its can be a big help . Because its very brief in some sections which actually let you research a bit. Great book and thank you Author . 😊🙏

While helpful for anyone suffering from myofascial pain, it is difficult to understand at times.
