Published teen fiction under the name Jenny O'Connell.

Although she's written about a reality dating show, a prescient pastry chef, and a woman who inspired an 80's rock hit, Jennifer has not spent hours dissecting The Bachelor, she can barely follow the directions on the back of a Betty Crocker box, and she can only dream of a long-haired, guitar-thrashing rocker even giving her a second glance.

While she cringes at the thought of being called Jenny again after all these years, her first teen book PLAN B, was published under Jenny O'Connell by MTV Books (March 2006). Jenny's second teen book, THE BOOK OF LUKE, arrived in April 2007, and her Martha’s Vineyard Novels, LOCAL GIRLS and RICH BOYS, were published in June 2008.

Her days as a high school senior may be long behind her, but Jennifer did receive her B.A. from Smith College and her M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.

Review:
This was my first time reading a Romance by Jennifer O'Connell so i wasnt sure what to expect.

The Characters were interesting tho the back and forth conversation between each character was very confusing to follow especially when it wasnt consistantly written.

The Setting was interesting to read about especially since it's set in Boston, Massachusetts which is a city ive always wanted to visit so when it was described i felt like i was there while reading.

Overall a Good Contemporary Romance BUT i wish it was written better then it was. I will read more by Jennifer in the future but this one just wasnt for me!!

(hal. 19)

Lauren Gallagher sebetulnya nggak punya cita-cita membuka butik kue. Waktu itu dia dipecat dari pekerjaannya. Suatu hari Lauren bikin kue untuk sahabatnya. Dia nggak nyangka ternyata kue buatannya enak banget.

Setiap cerita terselip sebuah budaya.

Judul: Ramalan kue pengantin
Penulis: Jennifer O'Connell
Penerbit: Gramedia
Dimensi: 472 hlm, 18 cm, cetakan I februari 2007
ISBN: 978 979 22 2668 3

Paige menerima saran Laureen, tapi hidupnya jadi menyedihkan.

What a roller coaster. Not necessarily the plot, but my emotions towards the book. At first I was kinda bored with it. It was looking to be a very lackluster, so-so read with cute, cheesy romance. Then about 1/4 of the way in it started getting good. Suddenly it was becoming a book I couldn’t put down and looked forward to being able to recommend it to friends once I finished. However, around chapter 20-21, the book almost be insufferable to read. I had to stop reading at some points because I was so annoyed at the writer. *spoiler* Like The Who ex bf being back really added to the story and I did like it. HOWEVER, out of like no where the narrator is creepy obsessive that their meant to be and keeps making weird comments every time they literally just like talking and refers to them as “dates”. LIKE WHY? Half the book was these girls going on and on and on about being these independent, self made, non traditional women and then she goes psycho and is baffled why her ex bf, who is engaged to get married, would ruin their “date” by invited his coworkers to get drinks. Eventually she comes to her senses and realizes she doesn’t love him, but the her she used to be but the way we got there was maddening. After she came to her senses the book was fine I guess. At that point I was so far in I just had to finish. I’m was still annoyed with the writer because, in my opinion, she wasted so much time, writing, and plot on aspects that were pathetic and took away from the theme of the book when she could have given a better ending. The ending was SO lackluster that I was mad all over again. I get the whole “leave it open ending so the reader can image”, but honestly I think in this case the author overestimated her ability to write an ending (and a book in general) and tried to make a poetic ending but made it so boring and pointless. Any cheesy, predictable ending would have worked at that point. Overall, it wasn’t bad, just not good.

Lauren and Robin annoyed me. The men in this story, Jeremy, Charlie and Neil, were much better characters. The only characters I somewhat liked were Maria, who wasn't really developed by the author and Paige. I loved hearing about Boston, I have family who live in Massachusetts and cakes! Those are the only two reasons for the 3 stars.

This is a fluff read, a book for reading on a plane or while sitting by the pool. It wasn't bad, it was just shallow without any depth to the characters. But it ended better than I expected.

Tiny nitpick: the author, while describing a character baking a wedding cake, says she is sifting the sugar. Bakers never sift sugar; they sift flour.

2.5 stars, rounded down. This is basically a brain-candy book, but it irritated me because it tried to be philosophical and more than just fluff. The story line was interesting, but all-in-all it's forgettable.

Even though I hated this authors last book (BACHELORETTE #1) I took both of these books out at the same time and wasted another week and read this one too. Not as bad as her other book, but at least I didn't come out of this book wanting to kill myself. Protag is a wedding cake "boutique" owner and for some reason like never makes cakes anymore and has all the time in the world to run around and hang out with her friends and try to make old boyfriends who are now getting married try to fall back in love with her and for some reason, they DON'T think she is crazy!!!! Anyway, how does someone "fall" into being a huge quasi-celeb cake maker in Boston and like never does anything? And the one time she does have to bake, she freaks out and fucks up. And she has her name on the store! If I was her head chef, I would not put up with that shit. Like nothing bad ever happens to this protag and everything works out! So lame. And she says she doesn't want to get married, but the second this awesome guy she starts dating says he doesn't want to get married anytime soon, she freaks out and dumps him. He didn't say NEVER, he just said not anytime soon. LAME. And I can't believe that her ex doesn't freak out when she tries to make a move on him, when he is engaged. He doesn't go for it (go him!) but he doesn't run away screaming that she is crazy, which she so is.

Thankfully, this is the last book I have in my stacks from this author and I will never take out another one again.

Okay so the fact that this book has the Boston I know and love all through it added to the fact that it is and O'Connell book I was sold. The first mention on Filene's Basement and the running of the brides, I was in love. And the Red Sox mention put me of the edge. This book was everything I really expected to be. It was real and true and exactly what every 30 something single woman feels.

Lauren was the quintessential successful 32 year old. She had her own super successful business, great friends, a apartment in an amazing location and financial stability. But even with all that there was something missing. She wasn't content and a lot of that lack of contentment was due on the fact that she was stuck in a place where everything was just mundane. She had gotten stuck and needed to get out and grow up. Instead of saving things and wondering where things are going she needed to just take things as they came. Baking cakes was an exact recipe, but relationship unfortunately don't work out that way.

Really it was a great joy to watch Lauren and her friends Robin and Paige grow and finally except who they are and that is was okay not to be a certain way. Ms. O'Connell once again you didn't let me down.

A cute little read. With only 250 pages, this book was one of the shortest I have read in a while. I was absolutely bummed when I turned the last page. I didn't feel like the story was complete when it ended. I would have loved another 20 pages to make me feel like I was leaving the characters in a good spot. I don't always feel this way - I just wanted to make sure these three ladies were completely happy when I left them!

I have read a lot recently where the characters took turns telling their part of the story - it was nice to stay in one character's mind throughout the whole book. With three ladies as best friends at the center of the book, I appreciated it only hearing one voice in the book.

One other personal note - the title Dress Rehearsal. I kept finding myself not understanding why it was given to this story. There is one line where I could see it fitting the story, but I kept wanting to rename the book. I never found one that I fell in love with, but I was never sure if this title really matched with the storyline. This point did not ruin the story, but kept me wondering.

Bought it at a book sale and it is a fast-reading -although I didn't read it fast enough; I only read it before bedtime- good old chicklit. What I love from this book is the description of the wedding cake. It sounds delicious. I don't think here in Indonesia we have wedding cake which looks like and tastes like the wedding cake Lauren Luscious Licks made. Almond cake with raspberry filling and white chocolate ganache. Slluuurp!!

Okay enough with the cake.
The story is about a girl named Lauren Gallagher who thinks that she can predict the future of her client's relationship just by observing the way the couple choose the wedding cake. And she's in a dilemma when she has to choose between her ex-boyfriend who picks the same cake as hers but about to be married or the new guy she met who picks a different cake and doesn't offer her the ring.
The story is good but, the ending is not satisfying. I know who she picks but 5 more pages would be nice to clear things up a little bit.

Lauren is the Vera Wang of wedding cake designers. She owns a hip boutique and has a knack for determining a couples' potential for staying together based on the cake that they choose. (reminds me of the moie the wedding planner).
Enter ex-boyfriend Neil. He and his fiance show up at her boutique and he chooses the cake that Lauren has already determined will be her cake. Did she make a mistake eight years ago when she sent Neil packing? Ahe is currently dating Charlie who she has so much in common with. Lauren entertains the idea of pursuing a relationship with Neil before he ties the knot. At the same time, she is trying to launch a wedding cake book, set her friend Paige up with a more appropriate guy, deal with a temperamental head cook, and determine if happily ever after means marriage.

Witty and insightful book.

The Plot :
Lauren punya wedding cake shop yg terkenal banget...
Tapi tunggu...Robin kan anti cowo (setelah pernikahannya yg gagal) n anti pernikahan
dan Lauren kan lagi bingung jg ttg Mr. Absolutely Right.

The Review :
This book is just an OK book..cause it's very light.
The storyline is OK.
It's about friendship, love but more important it's about finding the "right" thing...hm...

What really drew me to this book, is the fact that the author goes into such deep description about wedding cakes, that I found my mouth watering at every page. It made me want to ask cake designers if some of these flavors are actually available--and I've gone so far as to do that, since I am currently in wedding planning mode. Some of the chapters are over-enhanced with lots of cliche analogies, and the situations that the main character finds herself in tend to leave you with a "duh" response. However, it's short enough that you hardly find the time to be annoyed, and instead can enjoy the premise of reading about a cake designer.

Pretty quick, easy, non deep book. I started out liking this book more in the beginning and then towards the end I found myself disappointed. the ending of the book was left open to where it didn't feel like the book ended at all.... like it was missing several chapters or something. But overall it was a good read and enjoyable with funny parts. It's about Lauren and a cake boutique that specializes on wedding cakes. Lauren can tell based on how the couple picks out a cake whether they are meant to be or will end.

This book was mediocre at best. The premise of wedding cake analysis/prediction seemed like an excuse to have a nontraditional career for the main character and therefore an "interesting" book. That career was completely unbelievable, and that undermined the entire idea of the book and the main character.

It wasn't a horrible book; it just seemed like a version of someone's daydream that had to be fleshed out with "action" in order to fill a book.

I was ready for a fluff book that didn't require much thinking on my part and this fit the bill perfectly. It was an OK book, not one I'd recommend to all my best friends. I hated the characters Robin and Maria, they were so severe, more severe than I thought they should have been. Unlike some other reviewers I sort of liked that not everything ended with a perfect "happily ever after" because life doesn't always work that way.

A wedding-cake boutique owner who's about to learn that in love and life there is no such thing as a dress rehearsal. Lauren Gallagher is a pro at helping the brides and grooms of tomorrow pick out the perfect Big Day Dessert. Her "Bakery" is THE place to get your wedding cake in Boston. Her own love life is another matter. Such a fun book. Really enjoyed this author. Really sassy.

I read this book in about a week between calls at work. It was a very fast read. I loved it. Jennifer never writes a bad book. This one is about a woman who makes wedding cakes for a living and believes she has the ability to predict of a couple will make it or not based solely on what kind of cake they pick. Interesting stuff. It's a hilarious one.

While this is not my favorite of O'Connell's books, I enjoyed it none the less. I questioned the motives of the main character throughout a good part of the book, but she redeemed herself in the end. Quick and easy read, slightly predictable, but a fun read anyhow.

I read this book a few years ago. The main memory I have is that the main character is so selfish and whiny that I wanted to scream. I made myself finish it, but each page was a chore because of the spoiled main character.

A good weekend read. Not too sappy, not too emotional but just enough love and emotion to keep you interested. I would have preferred a bit different ending, something a little more definitive. The end left you asking yourself, "Okay, so specifically what happened next?"
