This life of mine has not been the easiest, or painless for that matter. Here we are again falling deeper and deeper into the Abyss of darkness never reaching the bottom, but forever falling. Just when I think I’m safe and out of reach from danger, I’m slapped back to reality, back into this world of chaos. This world I now live in, is my new norm. Thankfully, I’m not alone. I have them, my three guys who are forever protecting me from the unknown. What happens when they are the ones who need saving? Will I be able to be their savior, their rescuer, their shadow? What if I fail them? What if I lose them? I can’t fathom the thought. But here we are again falling deeper and deeper into the Abyss of darkness. Hello old friend.
I'm really torn about this review. The first two books are quite exciting, filled with adventure and sexy times. The plot line is very confusing though. This series requires a continuity editor. The time lines are all mixed up. First she's 20, then 23. She's there for a couple of weeks, but it says 5 months. They've known her a year but only a few months go by? That a major mobster couldn't find her long before begs belief. It's not like she even knew to hide. Spoiler: do not continue if you don't want this major plot point revealed:
Then the author crossed my line. This only served to further exaggerate the need for revenge, it was not necessary to the plot development. Just written as a shock device. This series is not a literary classic, it's an entertaining reverse harem adventure. Until now. Don't kill off main characters.
For a follow up book in a why choose series this was like a breath of fresh air. I just love how quick this reads and how new the story feels, in a sea of why choose romances. I was completely shocked with the plot twist and just couldn’t believe how things turned out. Is the writing still a bit cringey? Yes. The affection ‘baby girl’ personally icks me. But damn if I wasn’t gripped in this story. The editing is marginally better than the first, but please for the love of god, do not write Irish accents phonetically. Nearly skipped every page with those conversations because it was so off-putting 😅
This book broke my heart. Rebecca did me dirty for sure but the sloan and these men have for each others just melt my heart. I can NOT wait for the third book!!!
2.75⭐️ this was so long and it really needs to go through a few more rounds of editing. The amount of spelling and punctuation mistakes kept taking me out of the story.
The first 70% of the book was basically a repetition with nothing truly happening and then bam, emotional damage! How can you have me bored to tears for so long and then have me shedding tears to end it off?! I’m not ok right now!
The last 30% was good, and I really liked the friendship that developed with Arno (even though I still don’t know why he was at the auction trying to buy a woman to begin with. We better get a good reason).
However, my rating is so low because it doesn’t make up for the first 70% of the book. I finish a book in 2 days MAX, and this took me 6 days, and that’s not normal for me unless I’m super busy. It’s just a testament to my unwillingness to DNF books lol
I have been waiting months for this sequel! Ever since bingeing the first book and having it end with my jaw on the floor I have been counting down the days. I fell head over heels in love with these characters and couldn’t wait to see their story continue. This book delivered it all! Twist after twist along with action and absolute heartbreak. I am still just as shocked as I was after that first book.
This was a rollercoaster… The further the story goes the further I am into it. The characters are still developing: weakness and strength. How everything intertwine. The spice remains a bit vanilla for me, for a reverse harem. But as for the first book, you’re here for the story.
Really looking forward to the last book of the trilogy because this cliffhanger left me in tears. And yes I’ve read it in a day.
Revenge is coming. This is not a standalone, you have to read the Shadows first

Straight into the second book in this Trilogy and the action in this was fantastic in compared with the mellower tone of the first book. Alot happens, people start to make themselves known, and Sloan comes into her own in order to cement her relationship with the men. The huge plot twists were fantastic and there were a few tears shed. I'm excited for Book 3 in December to see what becomes of Sloan and her men in the Shadows.
This one hurt…still enjoying the story. I love these guys. They have me swooning. I understand Sloan is a badass but she’s still being stubborn. Just let them love you! And then look…look what happened! I have never been so frustrated with an FMC! I was freaking sobbing at the end. I did not see that coming! Still a lot of grammar issues and the way the Irish accent was written hurt my brain, but I couldn’t put this one down either.
I love where the story is going and I need more!!!! However the writing in an Irish accent really threw me off. It was a huge turn off. I’m flying through the book and then all of the sudden I’m hit with these spelling errors when I realized it was the accent, I feel like it was too much. We can picture an Irish person speaking it was a pain in the butt.
Random yet cliche plot twist. Random twin out of the woodwork. Half siblings come into play. Enemies now allies. Also little things like getting seriously injured and bandaged up then bam all the sudden in the bath and miraculously able to have sex and not be in pain/bruised/broken. And too many exclamation points for my liking.
This one didn’t pull me in and I struggled to finish it. The Irish “accent” in the text was beyond not necessary. Several holes in the plot. Editing could have been better. The only thing I liked was the twist in her bedroom/kitchen.
And I finish this one, ready for the final book and it’s not on KU?! Sorry, I won’t be finishing the series.
I enjoyed book 1, book 2 took a little longer for me to get in to but the last 20% or so got me. Still upset about what happened. Guess we will see what book 3 brings. My only complaint is the writing style feels a little off. I’m no English writing major but the back and forth past tense, present tense mix up bothers me. And writing out the Irish part phonetically was hard to read through. 🤷♀️
Wow what a book, so much going on in this one, some sadness as well. Like why, why, why? Read in a day, so hard to put down. It ends on a cliffhanger, now to wait for book 3
Really good continuation of their story. More twists and turns. Getting answers that just keep pushing them further from the truth. Sloan and the guys continue to grow together as a family. Can't wait to see how it ends.
Giving 3 stars cause wtf was with the Irish monologue? I could barely get through the sentence without thinking I was stupid! Was not a fan of killing off my fav guy, made my heart ache when the guys let their emotions show. Only reading book 3 to make sure they get revenge for him!

This book broke my heart at the end. But despite that, I did push myself to read the third and finally book. All in all, I did enjoy the book. My favorite quote is, " If you leave, there isn't a place on this earth you could go that I wouldn't find you. " - Colson. Truly was a good book.

i couldn’t finish this book. i cannot stand the way it is written. how everything drags on so long. not sure if it is me but i hate the characters. they lack… something.
DNF at 42%. Sloan has no character development and is just plain boring. The guys are only mentioned really for the spice or when they have to leave for jobs. I can't make myself finish this book 🥴
