Undercover DEA agent Erren Rhodes was used to working alone. So the very idea of teaming up with Officer Darby O'Malley to ferret out a killer wasn't exactly how he thought this critical mission would go. But thanks to information only the beautiful cop possessed, finding whoever was responsible for shooting Erren's friend made Darby a valuable-and irresistible-partner. Digging into the case, though, revealed a far-reaching conspiracy…and angered all the wrong people. Now, trying to bring a killer to justice while keeping Darby safe was making Erren remember why he was better off on his own. Especially when Darby made him long to hole up with her in the safe house and never let her out of his sight.

Well I certainly can't fault this romance for not being fast paced or exciting. It was full of adventure. But unfortunately the chemistry just wasn't there for the characters in my opinion. And the plot seemed implausible at times, but then again I don't know that much about the police industry.

Erren Rhodes has been undercover a long time. So much so that he's lost his taste for the business. But when a dear friend of his is killed, he has one more mission under his belt. When he goes to pick up a clue though, he also gets a new partner in Darby O'Malley. She's a clue in all this, or at least he thinks she knows something, and considering the dirty cops are after her too, he's got to keep her with him to keep her safe. It doesn't help her brother is the main suspect in this murder either. And she's more focused on clearing his name than having a bunch of interest in Erren, even though he'd like her to.

I liked Darby. I thought she was feisty and she somewhat keeps her head in the game for the most part. But she did seem a little too trusting, despite the authors portrayal of her as being skeptical. Erren on the other hand I didn't really like at all. His motivations didn't seem genuine and he was actually kind of a jerk. He flip flopped a bunch as well so it was hard to tell what he was thinking at any given point in time. The bad guys weren't that menacing. Sure they did some bad stuff, but its largely in the background as Darby and Erren run around.

Most of this book was about Darby and Erren's attraction to each other, which is fine because this is a romance, but despite that, I still can't figure out why they were attracted to each other aside from looks. Their personalities clashed and it wasn't in a good way. There was a lot of running around doing things, but the things weren't always particularly exciting and sometimes they seemed to bounce around quite a bit. But I do like that the author tried to make it adventuresome and a little more than the regular romance. Since this is a romance, there is sex in the book, but its actually only one scene, they were too busy dodging bullets for any more than that.

Not the greatest but it was a quick read. I can't say I'll seek out any more romances from this author on purpose.

This was a entertaining book with action, suspense, and romance. Darby was a policeman, and Erren was a undercover DA agent. The two were thrown into a situation that they had to be partners. At the beginning of the book neither trusted the other. I loved how the two fought for control, fought to be in charge. At times Erren was in charge, while other times Darby took the lead. With both having a Police background, they didn't stall when it came to slamming handcuffs on their opponent. It was fun to read about how fast they could get out of the cuffs to get back into the investigation.

Darby's brother was shot, and was in the hospital unconscious. Everyone thought he shot a cop. Darby is out to prove his innocents. Erren didn't know she had her own reason for wanting to take part in the investigation.

This book was fun to read. It had some humorous moments scattered within the chapters.

Angi Morgan delivers another Intrigue set at a scorching pace. Undercover DEA agent Erren Rhodes finds his mentor murdered, his cover blown, and the only person he can possibly trust is a woman who couldn't lie if her life depended on it. Police officer Darby O'Malley once dreamed of working undercover, but now she must do everything by the book to help clear her brother of a murder charge. She's positive he's innocent, but the only one who might help her prove it is a rogue DEA agent on the run.

These two characters took me on a wild ride across Texas, and I loved every minute of it. Watching them develop a grudging respect and taking the risk to trust each other was a joy. But Morgan rarely lets up on the pace and the twists and surprises. I definitely hope to see more of Erren Rhodes and his fellow rogues out there fighting for justice.

This review is a repost.

Harlequin Intrigue is probably my least favorite line out of all Harlequin’s imprints.

There are, however, some books from Intrigue that I like. This one, unfortunately, is not one of those. I like it, but I think this only rates three red hearts from me.

Sure, the plot is interesting, fast-paced, and action-filled. It just wasn’t what I fancy. You see, I usually like books with internal conflicts rather than those where the main antagonists were real people who interacted with the protagonists.

There’s nothing wrong with how the book was written. I actually commend Angi Morgan for not writing a cheesy romance novel disguised as a cop drama. In fact, the balance between romance and action was great. It’s just sad, though, that these books aren’t really my type.

This book was great! I don't usually read suspense books because I don't usually enjoy that kind of tension in a book. This one had a lot of witty banter back and forth between the characters which gave it some humor and lightened things up a bit. The story moved along quickly, and I never got lost or bored with the mystery. I loved the way the romance developed between the two main characters, as well, and you can never go wrong with a well placed Star Trek reference.
