Magic in Action

Rate this book

The book is a transcript of sessions with Dr. Bandler and several patients. It's fascinating to watch Bandler do in twenty minutes what other therapists cannot accomplish over years. For anyone who doesn't know, or wants a reminder of how powerful nuero-linguistic programming is, this is the book.

But this is a horrible book to try to learn anything from.

It's clear that a lot is lost from the original tapes. The non-verbal communication is at least as important as the verbal and with the exception of an occasional hint, it is totally lost.

Also there is no elaboration on the techniques, skill, or knowledge Bandler is applying. The last session is extensively annotated with NLP terminology, but not in anyway that would help anyone understand what is actually happening or why.

Even as inspiration or encouragement the book falls way short of the actual video it is taken from. Not actually seeing the pain or despair in the patients minimizes the impact of their relief.

All told I would only recommend this book to advanced NLP students who have the original tapes and want a transcript to follow along so they can better understand a master in action.

Another good read to add to your list if you are learning about NLP.

This is not at the TOP of my list of this author's writings but it is another good read. Any book by this author is at the top of my list for NLP Enthusiasts.

NOTE: The following part of this review will be repeated from other NLP Reviews I post by the same author.

I am probably a little partial because I truly appreciate the author of this book and what he had done on so many levels. There are so many ways our culture today has been 'inspired' and/or changed by his work yet so few people even know who he is in our country. Most marketing giants, political leaders, and sales industries use his techniques in everyday. But some of the most important areas his work has touched is still just being discovered in the cognitive behavior and alternative health industry. These techniques are so universal I see them repeated in many books, seminars, workshops etc. Yet there are so few that actually understand where the information originated from.
