Lance is on cloud nine. His lover Magnus has proposed to him, making Lance the happiest man on Earth, and they are planning to move their family to Sweden for Magnus's new job at Stockholm University. But when an old enemy resurfaces, followed by an unexpected new threat to their relationship, their new life in Europe with Magnus's nephew Jakob turns out to be very different from what they had hoped.
Will Lance and Magnus's love be strong enough to make their Mistletoe Experiment a success?
I’m a night owl and start writing when everyone else in my time zone is asleep. I’ve loved reading all my life and spent most of my childhood with my nose buried in a book. Although I always wanted to be a writer, financial independence came first. Twenty-some years and a successful business career later I took some online writing classes and never looked back.
Living and working in eight countries has taught me that there is more than one way to get things done. It has instilled tremendous respect for the many different cultures, beliefs, attitudes, and preferences that exist on our planet.
I like exploring those differences in my stories, most of which happen to be romances. My characters have a tendency to want to do their own thing, so I often have to rein them back in. The one thing we all agree on is the desire for a happy ending.
I currently live in Canada, sharing my house with a vast collection of books. I like reading, traveling, spending time with my nieces and listening to classical music. I have a passion for science and learning new languages.
So sad...this appears to be the final installment of this wonderful series. I've followed along as this little family finds it's way to HEA and have to say I've adored every minute of their journey. This is probably my favourite series by Ms Yates to date...and that's saying a lot, because I always seem to end up enjoy her interesting stories and excellent writing style. :)
A quick overview : This one sees Lance, Magnus and Jakob moving to Sweden where they feel they can be more accepted as a family and simply get on with their lives together. Of course, first they have to wrap up a few issues back home; not the least of which would be the Aunt and Uncle kidnappers from hell I enjoyed booing and hissing at from book one! But even when they do make it 'home' to Sweden there are still a few bumps in the road, some settling in issues to deal with and priorities to sort out. A little brush with death does wonders of course, and we arrive at the sweet, sweet HEA.
I was already in love with these characters, this little tale just continued my love affair. The story was nicely paced with lowish angst levels and more focus on the characters finding their feet in a new environment. The satisfaction level at the end, however, was definitely a warm, snuggily sigh of contentment. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone that enjoys MM Romance. These guys just settle in the heart...all three of them...Lance, Magnus and young Jakob who I could never forget! :)
I picked this book for MM Bingo but of course, I chose the third book of the series, so I had to first read The Mistletoe Phenomenon and then The Solstice Mistletoe Effect.
This last book was a joy to read. It was great to see how both Magnus and Lance came together as a couple and how they made a family with Jakob. All the books in the series were great, easy reads with interesting characters, emotion and a bit of drama to make it more interesting. This last one brings their relationship to another level of commitment not only onto themselves but with Jakob too with their move to Sweden and their marriage. I enjoyed the books immensely.
OMG! Love this story. Of course I teared up in spots, as usual! Following Lance and Magnus' relationship as they grow is a wonderful journey. I enjoy reading their stories as much as Serena's Daniel and Ryan! I hope there is more in this series. It's too good to end now!
The Mistletoe stories. What can I say? They're just so much fun. I really enjoy Lance and Magnus. A good, solid story in an unusual location. Thanks Ms. Yates for a fun read.
*sigh* What can I say... all is well that ends well! ;D
This the third and last installment of this series was a bit more emotional and had a bit more drama... two things I like to see in a romance book! *grin*
This series was a nice way to spend a few hours during this holiday season and I appreciated the warm feeling that I got from these books and the chuckles that popped out from time to time just added to my enjoyment!
Lance and Magnus are back in this sweet and satisfying conclusion to the Mistletoe Science series. Their story began in The Mistletoe Phenomenon and continued with The Solstice Mistletoe Effect, both books were reviewed here. At the end of book two the lovers had reunited after a brief separation and were happily looking forward to getting married and moving to Stockholm.
As this story begins Magnus, Lance and Magnus' nephew Jakob are on their way back from Sweden to Mistletoe, Wyoming where they live. Lance and Magnus are looking forward to making a permanent move back to Stockholm where they are planning to get married. Magnus has been offered a great job at the university and since Lance's relationship with his future in-laws is now a happy one they're all excited to begin their new life as a family.
Before they can make their move however they have to deal with the trial of Jakob's kidnappers and the effects of their move on Lance's family. Finally they make the move and they begin to settle into their new lives. With Magnus busy at work it's up to Lance to plan their wedding and keep their household running smoothly. Luckily for Lance he loves his role as a househusband and when he strikes up a friendship with a neighbor he has someone happily willing to help with the preparations. Just as thing settle down however Magnus is forced by his job on an extended research trip to Antarctica. How will this affect their upcoming wedding plans? And will there even be a wedding when Magnus' life is threatened while on the expedition?
I really enjoyed reading the third and final chapter in Magnus and Lance's story. They've been through quite a lot since their first kiss under the mistletoe and are looking forward to getting married and living a normal, happy family life. They are nice, likable guys although at times throughout the series I've wanted to shake some sense into them both. Just like in the first two books there is great chemistry between them and now that they've been together a while and they are secure in their love their relationship is loving, fun and still very hot. I also really like how Jakob is portrayed. The poor boy has gone through a lot in his short life beginning with the loss of his parents and then his subsequent kidnapping and new family situation but he's still overall a well-adjusted kid. Magnus, Lance and Jakob have formed a really nice family together.
Something else I really like about this series is the setting. Books featuring Sweden and the Swedish culture are rare in the romance genre which made this series all the more interesting. I've enjoyed the glimpses into the country and it's people and customs that the author incorporated into the story. I can't even imagine living without a full day of sunshine much less for weeks on end having just a bit of real daylight. It was interesting to read how Lance tried to adjust to that and other things.
Overall The Mistletoe Experiment is a well-written, entertaining and very sweet story. It may be too sweet for some readers but having read and enjoyed the previous two books it felt right to me. At times emotional, fun, interesting and quite hot as well this series is sure to please fans of the author as well as those looking for a sweet, romantic story. While this could be read as a stand-alone I do recommend reading all three of the stories to get the most enjoyment.
It was delightful to visit with Magnus, Lance, and Jakob again in Serena Yates's 'The Mistletoe Experiment'. I fell in love with the guys in the first 'Mistletoe Science' book and continued my love affair with Magnus and Lance throughout the second book and into the third. Serena did an admirable job of bringing new readers up to date, while reminding the rest of us of what had previously occurred. I was thrilled to see how marvelously the characters had grown; developing into happy, healthy individuals whose bond of love and level of commitment had grown even stronger.
It's heartening to see that Magnus is more expressive and supportive of Lance, resulting in an even more harmonious relationship. Lance is now deliciously assertive, displaying monumental self confidence. Jakob has always been wise beyond his years, but his understanding of how wrong his kidnapping was and his desire to help bring his aunt and uncle to justice was amazingly perceptive.
Magnus and Lance's wedding was a glorious event, although I found it amusing that no one batted an eye about two men getting married, but were questioning the appropriateness of a chocolate wedding cake. Since the Mistletoe's magic originally brought Magnus and Lance together, its representation at their wedding served as a sign of its continuing support of their union.
Read by itself, 'The Mistletoe Experiment' is a good story, but to feel its full emotional impact, I'd suggest reading 'The Mistletoe Phenomenon' and 'The Mistletoe Solstice Effect' as well. My only complaint is that there aren't more books in the series because I could follow the lives of these gorgeous guys forever.

Published today, this is the thrid and final book in my Mistletoe Science series.
It tells the story of Lance, Magnus, and his orphaned nephew Jakob and their attempt to fully settle into life as a family. It picks up just after the end of the second book, when Magnus asked Lance to marry him. Lance couldn't be happier. They are planning to move their family to Sweden for Magnus's new job at Stockholm University. But when an old enemy resurfaces (yes, the evil uncle and aunt are back), followed by an unexpected new threat to their relationship, their new life in Europe turns out to be very different from what they had hoped.
Read this final installment of their adventure to find out if Lance and Magnus's will love be strong enough to make their Mistletoe Experiment a success?
I have been following this series since it was first released as a Christmas piece. In the last book Magnus and Lance went to Sweden to visit Magnus' family, got engaged and decided to move to Sweden. In this book they get moved there and Magnus is given an ultimatum by his bosses at the university, go on a 3 month field trip to study glaciers or else. He doesn't want to go and Lance is just getting comfortable in Sweden, but Lance encourages him. About a week before he's to come home for their wedding, Magnus goes missing on an expedition. This is a very sweet story and some might find it a bit too sweet, they have the perfect family in the perfect place with the perfect neighbor, well, except for the lack of a perfect job. It was a nice conclusion to the series.
This was another good book in this series. After moving to Sweden and taking a position at the university, Magnus is told that he must go on a 3 month glacial expedition or else. Magnus has long determined that his family comes first before his job, but Lance is very supportive and asks Magnus to consider it, knowing that Magnus really misses his field work.
This is the most trying time for Magnus and Lance's relationship and the separation is very difficult. I thought it was a good story and I enjoyed it.
Having read the first two books in the series, my main purpose for the last one was to get to the end--to see Magnus and Lance get their HEA. I continue to find the writing to be stilted, and the story to be overly dramatic/emotional. I admit to to skimming over large sections. I just cannot appreciate Yates' writing style. With so many stories out there to experience, I don't see myself trying another read by Yates anytime in the near future.
A bit of an improvement from the first two stories in the book. Although the cliched dramatic events at the start and near the end almost had me groaning in exasperation. The story did have its good parts and turned out to be a okay read.
Because I had just read N°2 in this serie, I had to go on so lost part of my night with this, which I could not put done. Sorry to see these lovely family go.
One more visit with our friends Lance and Magnus. They have a few more hurtles to overcome but they are settling and moving toward their happily ever after.
