Advice columnist Gabriella Vasquez had it all--a high-profile newspaper job, a beautiful daughter...and a powerful secret. The father of her child was none other than the man who'd broken her heart--the playboy prince of Tesoro del Mar himself, Cameron Leandres.
The rakish royal had longed to settle down for some time, and when Cameron realized he was a daddy, he knew fate had brought him back to the only woman he'd ever loved. Getting involved meant risking his heart--and the kind of scandal that could bring down the royal family. But this time around, Cameron vowed to win Gabby's heart--and throw a royal wedding to remember!
According to her mother, she fell in love with books even before she could read and was always content when she had a book in her hands. It didn’t surprise anyone when she decided that she wanted to be a writer, but she was encouraged to pursue “a real job” first.
So she did—she became a lawyer. Two years of practicing law taught her a lot about the world—and reinforced her determination to become a writer. Because in fiction, she could promise a happy ending!
Thankfully, she had already met and married a wonderful man to inspire her fictional heroes. And when she was on maternity leave after the birth of their first son, he encouraged her to take a romance writing course at the local community college. It was while enrolled in this class that she completed her first (still unpublished) manuscript.
Three more manuscripts and another baby followed. And then, in June 2002, she finally got the call from Susan Litman—an editorial assistant and contest judge—offering to buy the manuscript she’d submitted to RWA’s Golden Heart® contest as “From This Moment.” This story was re-titled McIver’s Mission and released by Silhouette Intimate Moments in May 2003.
Nah, this is better, rather mature in age but the story not flat like any other. The return of prodigal prince to his first love. Seems too good to be true, but at least the story not that boring.
Let me explain my title here... any book with the word 'Prince' in it would be on the auto - never in my life - sphere... but not Ms. Harlen's latest Speical Edition.
Prince Cameron is flawed on many levels. His non-hero type past is why he doesn't really know he has a 16 year old daughter. And Gabriella has every reason in the world to despise her ex. There are reasons people break up and this story touches on several of them. I like that Ms. Harlen didn't take the sappy way out with this story... the "I didn't know" about the baby at all would have smacked of insincerity and in order to make this flawed hero grow, he kinda needed to be a bit of a snake in his earlier life. *spoiler here* I also love it when you see a couple get together at an inconvient time. Gabriella's long-time boyfriend and how she handles the emotions of having both men in her life was a nice change from the typical romance.
This is a character driven royal romance with a tiny bit of Princess Diaries to it.
I really like the plot of the story. So much that I wish there could have been more.
The character build up was outstanding and each of them was portrayed by Brenda Harlen in a manner that would let any reader crave for more. I only gave 4 stars for this book because mainly it is short. I became attached with the characters and the events that the pages flew by in a split moment leaving me not that much sated with my reading. I would have been delighted to have read more about each of the characters, most especially with Prince Cameron. I truly can't forgive him for what he did and his ill actions that made the Gabriella and her family suffer. But Brenda's portrayal of Cameron as a prince was such true to life and alive that he is more than a fictional character to me, that he reflects a true person who commits grave mistakes that he would forever wish he could rewrite. Brenda also showed how Love Endures. That one could not easily forget about love when what they have is indeed a love that would last forever. Overall, I truly love this book. Kudos to Brenda Harlen!
I really wanted to give this book 5 stars but I couldn't forgive him. The writing made it four star though because Brenda Harlen makes you feel immensely for the characters. I continue to be a huge fan of hers.
I have read this book several times and enjoy it each time. Gabby Cameron met while she was still a teenager. He rejected her because his feelings scared him. Sixteen years later their paths finally cross again and he finds out about their daughter. A very good second chance romance.
