I passed the 70-433 (barely) using really only this resource as anything to prepare me for it and augment my more narrow experience with SQL Server. The books content on Service Broker, XML in SQL, transactions, etc. is more detailed than the test needs but makes this book a very good SQL 2008 reference I intend to keep on my shelf for the forseeable future.
The accompanying CD has very good practice tests although they include drag-and-drop answers that no one I know has seen on the actual exam as well as never telling you how many to select from multiple options. The book claims the accompanying PDF e-book will let you copy out code samples, but actually that PDF version prevents copying.
I used this to get through the Database Development Certification in July. I certainly wouldn't say that it is all that you need to pass, but it covers the majority of the information. The questions on the practice test helped to narrow down areas which I needed to focus on more, which helped out immensely.
Of note was the fact that there were a few errors in the practice questions that I saw. However, it was obvious what they were and what the intent of the question was, particularly when reading through the explanations.
This book is OK to help revise but I’m not sure it’s enough to pass the exam. According to my experience it’s better to work daily with the product, in this case SQL Server 2008, when studying for a Microsoft exam.
very well structured with lots of useful materials. does not help much with spatial and service broker. locking and blocking section was not enough and lacks good practice in that important area
