Inspiring True stories of heroic scientists who risked everything for the truth. Archimedes, Ptolemy, Copernicus, Tycho Brahe, Kepler, Galileo and Isaac Newton
Jim Weiss has a talent for pulling out the details of historical figures' lives in ways that stick in the minds of kids (and adults, for that matter). The girls were amazed (and amused) by Archimedes' bathtub discovery, by Tycho Brahe's missing nose, and by the travails of Galileo. A fun, informative little audiobook, one that I am sure I will be asked to play often.
We listened to this in the car. I don't know how much the boys actually listened, but I thought it was pretty captivating for a young audience. The reader did all the voices, which made it interesting, though a little ridiculous. Did Johannes Kepler really have a voice like that? Heaven forbid! It was not at all a daunting listen. We got through it in two semi-local car trips. Since we're learning about Galileo and the Renaissance we skipped "Archimedes and the Golden Crown." I wonder if I'm flooding my kids with a little too much Galileo. . . .
