Pieter Tonneman, once sheriff of the island of Manhattan, is now a businessman and blissfully married to Racquel. But all around them, simmering hatreds and bigotry born of fear threaten to boil over. Soon Racquel, too independent and outspoken to remain unnoticed, is the target of vicious gossip--and of a killer.
1.5 stars. The history was dull, the mystery made no sense, and all of the characters were miserable and spent most of their time whinging about their misery. I did finish the book but it was a pretty sour experience all around. Another one for the PBS pile...
A mystery set in the mid-late 1600's in Manhattan. Interesting story line but what I like best is the historical context of the era. The authors are actually a husband and wife team who write historical mysteries together.
Thank you Julie Chuba! I enjoyed this book a lot, hard to put it down when I was in Spokane and had to. I shall look for more in the series, if it is a series.
