When Nina, Joe, and Bob hear about a strange creature preying on residents of a small Florida town, they know it is up to them to track down the digitally realized wolf man before the next full moon. Original.
A generous ⭐⭐ considering how lame and repetitive the juvenile writing is. That and the 'modern update' for The Wolf Man is just silly. I do have nostalgic bias towards this book; I read it when I was about ten and twenty-two years later, I have reread it. It's still mediocre.
I'm torn. On the one hand, this one was way more inventive than the Dracula book. On the other hand, the writing was way more repetitive in terms of certain phrases that it used over and over again. I would say you could make a drinking game out of every time the novel states the full names of the forest and the carnival, but you would undoubtedly keel over from alcohol poisoning only a few chapters in.
So in the end, things even out. This is a slight improvement on the Dracula entry, but not enough to bump it up a star. Fingers crossed that Book 3 can cross that threshold. Also...

...points deducted for turning Maleva into a villain. What the heck?!?
Yea, this was a book in the series, and I wish it didn’t feel rushed. It was a fun game of trying to uncover the villain, but that is how it comes together. I remember not caring for this one as much when I was younger, and now I remember why. It just needs more substance. But I remember the series still being worth it.
I do wonder if I would enjoy these books more if I watched these classic movies. I think that it is a strength of the author to make this books engaging if the reader has not engaged much with the source material, but this book may have learned more on it to the detriment of ignorant readers such as myself.
