MAGIC WILL RETURN. Darkness is poised to descend upon Fythnar, and with his true identity revealed, Elijah quickly learns that he is the land's best hope against the impending threat of Bonemire. He cannot face Valdis' dark army alone and must travel to the remaining three courts in the hope of earning their support. But there is just one problem. Elijah is unwilling to use his newfound magic and accept his royal destiny.
Meanwhile, Lorch finds himself as a pawn in a game of power, grappling with his desire for revenge while nursing his broken heart. Confused, afraid, and angry, Lorch allows his father's dark influence to spread like wildfire across the north. He is tempted by his father's ideals yet torn between doing what is easy and what is right.
With war looming, friendships will be tested and long-dead alliances reforged as powerful magic returns. As Fates intertwine and uncertainty blankets the land, one thing is certain, there will be bloodshed.
As she grows closer to Elijah, Ariiaya questions everything she knows. Too long has she been twisted to be what others want her to be - a mindless, emotionless killing machine. Too long has she been forced to suppress all that she feels inside - her emotions a tide crashing against the banks of her heart.
No longer will she allow others to shape her.
Now, the only hands to weave her fate will be her own.
The heart-stopping second book in the thrilling Strings of Fate series - an exhilarating romantic fantasy set in a hazardous world of magic and adventure where stakes are high, love is a war of many hearts, and fate is never truly set in stone.

5 ⭐️ Love, blood & Fury was a perfect start to this amazing Fae Fantasy series and Magic, Midnight & Starlight was equally as amazing, everything a book 2 should be!
Having completely invested in all the characters in book 1, the adventure picks up and my new character friends face many challenges and action packed events leading up to multiple climactic events, which had me stressed in all the good bookish ways.
**Spoilers for book 1, but I'll keep the spoilers for this book to a minimum, there may be some. Don't read on if you haven't read book 1!
We begin book 2, right in the middle of the chaos where Arii and Elijah flee the castle after realising he is Fae and has an explosive and public awakening of his magic. Now on the run, their focus is on survival, long enough to spread the word about the dark, necromancy magic that the King's father has been working with to take over the land of Fythnar. Thankfully all our favourite characters and some fantastically quirky new characters choose to join Arii and Elijah as they set about warning the other courts.
With the adventure taking us to the other courts in Fythnar we enjoy an increase in details of the world building and develop a good understanding of these lands, the set up of the courts and the Fae, Elves and Humans who live there. The action takes place not only along the travel between courts, but within each one too. Now that the truth about both Elijah and Arii has come out, they have multiple enemies on their tails.
While travelling, we witness Elijah grappling with his hatred for Fae, and fear of magic to finally learn to accept and to use his magic. I adored the way that this was not a flip of the switch, but rather a deep and complicated journey for him.
As we get to know our characters better we are also invited into their romances. Our two main characters Arii and Elijah having a slow burn, romance which is full of sexual tension and a hint of potential fated mates. There are equal parts passion, selflessness, confusion and loyalty making their relationship complicated and dynamic. This is one of my favourite bookish couples as their love doesn’t override their respect for one another. They allow the other to be exactly who they are, support them to grow into the person they want to be and hold the other when they need to escape from the world.
Alongside their romance we watch as our favourite characters reunite with their partners, find new connections and finally consent to long awaited romances. It is these delightful romantic moments that gives us a resting point from the action and adventure.
I absolutely adored this book and cannot wait to get started on book 3, especially after that final event!
Magic, Midnight and Starlight includes: Fae, Elves, Humans Animal Shifters Fae Magic Assassins Found Family Dark, necromancy magic Evil, corrupt royalty Betrayal Potential Fated mates Romances Trials Alliances Magic training Action / adventure
Bonus points for a series which has a detailed map AND a pronunciation guide for those of us who adore details in our books.
Thank you to author Melissa J Kincaid for the eARC. All thoughts are my own and this review has been left voluntarily.

Magic, Midnight & Starlight is the second book of the Strings of Fate series. The book continues to follow Ariiaya, Elijah and Lorch in their respective adventures.
The story was quite fast paced. There was always something happening and not any dull moments.
There was a lot of character growth in this book. The characters were lovable with interesting personalities and backstories. A lot of the characters were familiar from the first book but there were also some new ones who were well introduced. Can’t wait to see how they are involved in the plot later.
The book is told in multiple points of view, at some points there might have been a bit too many rapidly changing pov, especially at the beginning of the book. I think that the pov situation got better further into the book.
The beginning was a bit confusing / chaotic because of the pov changes.
The storyline was again well written. The world building was great and the story itself interesting.
The book ended with a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read what happens next!
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
Had to sit on the review for this one for a little while to let that ending sink in, talk about cliffhanger!! Yikes!
I was super happy to be back spending time with Arii, Elijah, Nem, Krepth and co after enjoying book 1 in this series. Though there were a few times there I feared the worst for our motley crew of heroes. The author sure knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat and drop hints that there’s some pretty intense stuff to come. My heart is hurting already for the final book, I know she’s going to rip it out of my chest, I can just feel it 😳
The writing has tightened up considerably in this second instalment and though there are multiple POV’s, they’re all done really well and come together nicely. The pacing is a bit up and down; it’s generally quite slow with a fair amount of world building but I still found myself racing through certain parts that had me hooked. And the slow burn is slooooow… can they just get on with it already! 😂
Several of the characters have had quite the arc in this book, and all of it just sets up for what is sure to be an absolutely epic finale. I can’t wait to see what is in store for our friends in the next book.
I've been so busy that I hadn't even realised that I missed popping my own rating! Heh, well, as if I'd give it less than 5 stars. Come now, part of my soul is in this book.
Honestly I'm not sure how I even found the time to write this book, with a newborn baby and all. But here it is, and I am SO PROUD.
Continuing on from book one, Love, Blood & Fury; Magic, Midnight & Starlight follows the adventure of Arii, Elijah and Lorch. Arii grapples with her newfound emotions, Elijah wars with a future he has no desire to chase, and Lorch battles with a broken heart.
There are many more new characters in this story, as well as those introduced in book one, and I hope you enjoy them all!
This book contains: - Stylised violence - Sexual themes - Course language - Murder - Loss/death of a parent
Thank you so much to everyone who has stuck by me in this sequel, and to those who plan to join in the future. I hope you enjoy this one, and continue to stick with me for the third book!
Holy. Goddess. (slight spoiler alert for those who haven't read it...) WHAT A BOOK. What a RIDE. What a story... Oh my gosh. I can't even. Like... The TEARS. The pain. The sitting on the edge of my seat moments! Melissa, you've done an amazing job once again! This book absolutely blew me away in all of my wildest fantasy dreams. (but also. Elijah 🤤). Highly recommend this book for any lovers of Fae and amazingly written world building. I just.. Gosh. I wish this place was real. Well, obviously post war but ugh. I need a Nem in my life. And a Tikkani. And an Emerson. And a Luc. And a Krepth. And a Lorch. And all the other amazingly written characters in this book. I want to be in that friendship group 😭 But also... I am so HYPED for Fire, Fury & Chaos. Like ohhhh my Goddess. We get dragons!! Hopefully not a single dragon dies in the last book.... Otherwise... I'll be crying for days. Thank you again, Melissa, for such a terrific book! I can't wait for the next!
This book was really good! For a self published book it is top tier honestly Melissa is an incredible author. I found her writing to be more polished in this book compared to book one she definitely has found her writing style here. The plot development and character development was lovely as well. I loved learning about all the kingdoms, meeting our crew and side characters and learning a bit more of the magic system which I’m sure will be explored more in book 3.
Only thing I personally didn’t vibe with was all of the extra POV’s, just too many honestly it threw the pacing a little bit for me. I also had a hard time with the Loch scenes as he seemed to have just rolled over and showed his stomach… not giving much of a fight which I’m sad about but I’m sure there’s a reason! Other than that I really loved book 2 and I am genuinely excited to continue on with the series with the third and final instalment!

Welcome back into a wonderful world of magic, in Magic, Midnight & Starlight, the second book in the Strings of Fate series by Melissa Kincaid!! I was more than excited to dive into this after finishing book one recently. Yet again, it was everything I expected, considering how much I enjoyed the first book. As if we didn't see character depth and evolution in the first tale, we get even more of it in the second. Not just from the MCs either which is amazing!
I am losing my mind as a reader, however. If you've already found this title, you probably know where exactly I lost it. Much remains to be seen regarding a solution to this problem of mine. Until then, bring on the emotional support squad. You, my friend, get another five stars from this humble lil reader.
Ravenheart Rating: 10/10 Spice Factor: Mildly open door handsy stuffs, nothing explicitly detailed.
I was trying to pin point what I liked so much about these books and honestly it's the characters. Not just 1 or 2 but ALL of them!!
Melissa has written each and every one in a way that they feel like a group of your friends. All with their own unique personalities and quirks 🫶
This book is heavy in the plot and turmoil too and not just character development. There is a LOT going on and it's fast paced too! I also really enjoyed seeing our Fury assassin -Arii starting to work out her feelings and emotions after being taught to suppress them for so long.
I could see where things were developing but that didn't take away from they story in anyway - BUT dead God does it end in a cliffhanger 😱😱😱
The story picks up right where the first book ended and I’m so glad for that!
Arii and Elijah had such a bickering and banter relationship 😅🙈 The found family was amazing. I loved getting to know all the people Arii and Elijah gained along the journey across the land!
Arii working through her fear and suppression of feelings with the help of Elijah was so sweet 🥺😭 seeing them break down each others walls and finally accepting that they are enough for each other 🫠
I loved the Wraith mystery and the challenges Elijah had to go through to prove he is worthy of support. The ending absolutely wrecked me and I need Book 3 now!
4.5 ⭐ I absolutely inhaled the second book in the Strings of Fate! Anyone who loves Throne of Glass will definitely enjoy this series.
The descriptions of the different kingdoms and all of the crew's travels were great and I like that we got to see everyone in action a bit more. Some of my favorite parts were on the pirate ship, and Arriaya and Elijah are everything! (though I wish there was a bit more spice, but that's just me!).
After that ending, I look forward to book 3!
Thank you to the author Melissa J. Kincaid for the e-copy in exchange for my honest review.
The storyline became more intriguing as it went on giving us answers along the way to questions I had from the ending of book 1. The ending has my in hold and can not wait to read the 3rd book, but sad to hear it's ending in the next book. I love the assassin fae take in the books and I did giggle at a few parts that I thought were relateable
I also found this book was smoother to read and more clear on who's point of view it wad coming from so Melissa's writing has come a long way in between the 2 books
This has been an insane ride. This book is so good. Im so happy this one was in first person, it was soooo much easier for my brain to follow it. Elijah 🥵 is everything. I am soooo hoping for more spice. I get he wants to do it right but my gods man, we want to see you take her 😂 Him accepting who he is was such an amazing story to see develop. All in all an amazing story, plus we get dragons soon?!? How freaking amazing is that. I’m so excited for the next one!
I really enjoyed this book. I fell in love with the characters in book one and even though it took me far longer than I hoped to read the second installment, I'm very happy the third is already out. I loved seeing Elijah grow and develop and want to see how the final event shapes his future further.
So much action! This book had me nail-biting from the first chapter. I like how Arii comes to realise that emotion and love are OK, her friends have her back no matter what. She's tough, but has a huge heart, The Journey continues. One book to go!
Loved loved LOVED this book! I am extremely excited to find out what happens in the last instillment! While it may have taken me a few days to read ( unfortunately can’t always read while at work ) when I did get the chances to read it was like I had never left the story. By the time I finished I was internally screaming and finding myself NEED to know what happens next! Definitely recommend!
What a follow up to LB&F, I loved this instalment even more as we further delve into the characters and their character development. So looking forward to how Melissa is going to follow up the story so far. That ending though, I don’t know how I’ll be able to wait for book 3!
