Laing returned to his favorite haunt here, and does a successful job of proving his point. That is, that though the rest of Europe faltered in its culture between 200 and 800 with the Roman manuscripts being kept in monasteries and read only by the intellectual elite, in the British Isles Celtic culture thrived and spread. The pictures of artifacts are, as ever, wonderful as well.
