I won this Advance Reading Copy from a Goodreads giveaway.
I was interested in the book for my daughter. She s the one reading it. Here's what she says about the book, "This book is awesome. It's not boring. The author makes it fun while you're learning. It's not too much per day, but you still learn from it."
My daughter is 11. I'd say the book is suitable for girls, ages 10-13. The book has an easy to use 365 day devotional format, with a Bible quote followed by an interpretive commentary, which is often humorous. The commentary relates the Bible quote to current thought-provoking everyday events your daughter has probably experienced, showing the Bible's relevance in a girl's life. (Hence the title - That is SO Me.)
In addition to the commentary, at the bottom of the page, there is a section entitled, "Do That Little Thing". This section helps a girl to apply what she's read about to her life personally.
There are different repeated focuses in "Do That Little Thing". Each day either has a Quiz section (with answers that are neither right or wrong - just what's true for the reader), a Find Out section, a Just Think section, a God? Can We Talk? section (focusing on prayer), a Listen Up! section, a You Can SO Do This section, or a Shout-Out section. These help to develop and deepen your child's faith. I liked one in a "Find Out" section, which directed the reader to ask her mom or dad how she creates light or space in her mom's or dad's life.
I would definitely recommend this book to any parent looking for a way to make the Bible come alive for their daughter. It'll help incorporate a daily reading time into your daughter's life. It will make her faith more relevant to her, as she personalizes it and deepens her relationship to God and others through the readings and activities.

I finished this book yesterday and plan on rereading it. I'm not a teenager but this really applied to me. Everyone can get something from this book: kids, teens, adults, even men!! I love the way she breaks down the scriptures into ways that I can understand. Thank you for a great book!!!!

I actually use this book as a resource for writing devotions for a local girls' organization. It is a great book for young girls and I love the way the lessons are presented.

"That is SO Me" is a year-long daily devotional for girls ages 9-12. It's written in a conversational, engaging tone and is good at giving examples of how the application parts would work out in modern, tween girl life.
There were 52 weeks with 8 entries per a week: one under the "Week #__" heading to introduce the week's theme and then one for each day of the week. The day entries included activities (quiz; ask someone; think about; talk with God; listen to God; do what you've learned; and share it). The devotional was divided into four parts of 13 weeks each. Part One was about learning more about God. Part Two was about how God sees us. Part Three was about how God transforms people's lives (by following the stories of 13 people in the Bible). Part Four was about how God wants you to act.
Overall, the devotionals taught good lessons and engaged the reader in a way that they would probably try to do the activities suggested and apply the lesson rather than just read it.
However, I did have some concerns. The first eight weeks were a summary of the events in Genesis. This was a good idea, but sometimes she incorrectly summarized a passage. Sometimes it was obvious she was trying to make the passage fit her week's theme, but other times I couldn't see why she changed or added to what Scripture said. After those weeks, she used verses from throughout the Bible that actually fit the theme...but the problem of slightly inaccurate summaries persisted, though it was less frequent. Also, I sometimes didn't agree with how she explained the meaning of a verse.
For example, on Week 2: Tuesday, she interpreted God's curse on the serpent in Genesis 3:15 as "he made it so women and their kids would always hate snakes. That accounts for the creepy feeling you get when you even see a python on TV. God knew the source of the evil, and he took away some of its power. It's still there, and it will sneak up on you and 'strike [your] heel" But you can also 'crush [its] head" (verse 15). God made it so that you can stamp it out whenever it tries to get to you." But that verse refers to Satan and the Messiah, not everyone.
Another example is from Week 49: Sunday when she modernized the parable about forgiveness found in Matthew 18:22-35. She has a teacher give a girl an extra day to pay her large debt but the teacher revokes the extension when she sees the girl demand that her friend pay back a small debt. I can see a girl reading it and thinking, "But Late Girl was just trying to raise the money to pay the teacher the next day! How unfair!" To be more accurate to the parable, Late Girl shouldn't have had to pay her way anymore so that she had no pressing reason to demand her friend pay up.
Despite my concerns, this devotional is probably better than nothing and probably can engage tween girls that normally wouldn't do devotionals.

That Is So Me is so right. I may have read this devotional from the eyes of a 20-something, but for 8- to 14-year-old girls, I can't imagine anything quite so great.
Nancy Rue has crafted a Biblical guide for girls covering everything from brothers and boys to BFFs and moms, and everyone (and thing!) in between, no matter how lovable... or not. Baby step by baby step, she walks you through the Bible and how God wants you to live, in short daily reads and actions to get you started. And it's never so much that a girl can't do it, especially with the help of a God-loving grown-up, and become more and more the girl God wants you to be.
This was an incredibly age-appropriate devotional, more-so than any other I've yet seen, with short readings and interactive activities, along with questions to get you thinking (and talking). Honestly, some of the things Rue pointed out about Scripture I'd never seen that way before. I am very impressed.

I received this book free from the Goodreads First Reads giveaway and although I am not a Christian, it turned out to be quite the win. The author uses Biblical passages, stories and proverbs, in addition to verses in order to give instruction to young women on how to live Christian lives within a world which does not often encourage such living. The daily devotions are fun, easy to understand and each daily lesson offers the reader the opportunity to question her own thoughts on said lesson. As someone who has studied the Bible in depth, I don't know that I agree with every single interpretation of every verse, however as we all know, interpretation of the Bible is very individual and for the most part I felt that it was accurate. She speaks to the reader as if she were speaking to her own child, so it makes it a very familiar and comfortable read, and I have a sister who has two daughters within the target age range and will be sending it off to her as I believe that they will greatly enjoy the book, the quizzes and the daily activities. I highly recommend it for those Christian parents who may not have time to have daily devotions with their children but still want to offer some valuable instruction from the Bible to their daughters at an impressionable age.

I won this book from Goodreads First Reads, and I thought it would make an awesome gift. I'm a bit beyond the target age, but while looking through it, it looks like something I wish I had when I was. I really like how it has different areas to write in so the user can put their own feelings in with the devotions.
Every day seems like it's just enough for the day, not too much, but still enough to be a meaningful message. It's clearly written for it's age group, but it's written in a way to catch the attention of the preteen and lead them through the issues that they're facing.
I'm very happy that I won this book. My sister recently passed away, and her death affected many young girls that she helped take care of, and I think this book will be a fantastic gift for one of them, to help them through the difficulties they are being faced with far too early in life.

I won a copy of this book! I really wanted something to share with a family member who needs a bit of guidance right now. The book is written in such a way that it reaches out to teens in a manner that doesn't make them feel like they are being preached to. The author, Nancy Rue, truly knows how to make that connection to teens. I enjoy her style as did my granddaughter. She is not done the book since it is written to be read on a daily basis for a year. I read it from front to back and even though the author wrote with a teen reader in mind, I felt a full connection even as an adult.
I would highly recommend this book for any teen you know!

I won this book from First Reads almost as soon as I entered! I am reading this book as it is to be read; day by day. I am actually learning about the Bible for the first time. I didn't grow up with this religion, but I can appreciate the book. This book is written in basic language that a teen will understand. I think it's pretty cool actually. The book is light, daily reading. I hope to learn from it even though I am an adult. I think this book is a great way to teach teens the Bible without getting too serious. Thanks First Reads!

This is one of the best daily devotion books I have ever read.
I am not a tween, but I read the book and will be passing on to my original intended reader.
I have never had my spirituality put together in such a fun and educational manner.
I plan on checking out all of Nancy Rue's books for girls.

Well it is obviously going to take a year to read this, but what my daughters and I have read so far, I absolutely love it. Everyday starts with a bible verse and then goes on to explain the meaning of that verse, at then end it gives a challenge to do, like today is to let someone know that they are God's masterpiece and to appreciate them. My children look forward to our reading of this book everyday. I couldn't be happier!

Since this is a daily devotional book, I did not read all of it yet and it is also for 'tweens'. I am an adult. I did, however, read a 10-20 of the devotions to get a feel for them. They seem down-to-earth and appealing to 9-14 year old girls. One of my daughters is using it this year for her devotional. The insights and inclusion of Scripture is a blessing to the reader.

I won this as a Goodreads First Reads giveaway. It is described perfectly above. In a nutshell - A year's worth of devotional readings for teen-age girls. I can see how it would appeal to that age group and provides information in a direct, non-assuming way. I will save it for my daughter when she's a teen.

This is a very awesome book. I work nightshift, so my days and nights are turned around, but I read this book for that day, everyday, andeveryday it seems to fit. I am very glad to have won this book.

Not really finished but in the process. It'll take a year to get through. I read this to my 3 daughters every night and they really seem to listen and enjoy. The amazing thing is they are 10, 13 and 19 years old. They certainly don't listen to much of anything else I say!!

I actually loved this cute book of devotions for a preteen girl. I could totally relate this to my life as a 32 year old non-Christian mom. Who knew?
