Bring Christ back to Christmas by giving your children a devotional experience that adorns your tree with Christian symbols.
The Advent Jesse Tree offers 25 devotions for each day from December 1st to December 25th, Christmas Day... The day Christians celebrate that God's purpose was finally revealed in the coming of the savior, Jesus Christ. Each devotion traces the heritage of Jesus through the stories and prophecies of the Old Testament. This book enables individuals and families to engage in a more meaningful celebration of the Christmas season. These daily Advent devotions are written in two versions (one for children and one for adults) including a scripture, a story and commentary, questions to ask, a prayer, and a song. Each devotional story is paired with a representative symbol that traces the heritage of Jesus… Such as a lamb, a dove, a rainbow, a heart, a star, etc. Children and their parents can utilize the symbolic line art printed with each daily devotion to craft meaningful ornaments. These symbols coincide with the prayers, memory verses, questions for children, and songs found in the devotions for that day.
Finally, on Christmas day, your tree will be filled with reminders of 25 Bible stories that led up to Christ’s birth.
We went through this in Dec 2018. We enjoyed it - it's about 15 minutes per evening. This was our first time ever reading devotions of any kind with our kids. I've never been a fan of devotionals, but I absolutely LOVE the idea for advent. It was so fun to give our kids a quick overview of the Old Testament and all that led up to the birth of Christ. I'd like to go through it again some year. I will probably try to find something different for this next year, though. :)
We have done this for a couple of years now. We really enjoy this as a family. It’s short and includes both Bible passages and songs. It will really help you focus on Christ! I’m creating a song playlist to use next year.
This was originally a book I used with my kids at christmas and now that they are older and I am wiser, I don't agree with this books version of a vengeful God. I will no longer be using this book and it saddens me that this is the message the author means for children to hear. Just read Day Three and you will see what I mean.
A 25-day devotional to focus on the story of God and the coming of Jesus during the Advent season. The book has suggested songs, a daily memory verse, and two devotionals with questions and a prayer - one for kids and one for adults. It encourages you to make ornaments for each day. I printed out the photos, colored and laminated them, and added string.
My kids are six and eight and the kid version was perfect for them. It was a great way to focus on Jesus during the Christmas season.
This version of the Advent Jesse Tree devotional is excellent. We like the inclusion of hymns with the readings, although we read them as poetry since our family singing is a bit painful to our (my) ears.
This is our fifth year reading through this, and we found it less engaging than past years. I like the idea of pulling the redemption thread throughout all of scripture, but something about it just fell a little flat this year. May leave this one off of next year's advent readings.
