The Fisherman and the Genie

The story of an evil Persian king, who marries a new wife each day and then kills her the next morning. To stop this murderous ruler, a brave woman named Scheherazade risks her own life and marries the king herself . . . but not without a plan. On their wedding night, she will entertain him with the tale of the Fisherman and the Genie, a legend so great, he'll never want it to end.

Eric Fein and artist Eduardo Garcia have done a good job abridging and adapting this interwoven story into graphic form. Because this is the story that begins the 1,001 Nights, they also had to explain the framing story of Scheherezade, which makes the whole thing a little rushed, but it is still easy to understand, and they kept the important bits of the story. This series of Arabian Nights tales is living up to my expectations. It could have been better, if given more pages per story, but for the format it is quite good. The book is quick reading for tweens.
