He's working for the Coast Guard, but that's not Heath Gerlach's only mission. He's also an undercover FBI agent, and his target for investigation is his new partner, Tracie Crandall. With her blond hair and pretty blue eyes, Tracie looks sweet and innocent. But was she involved in her former partner's crimes? Tracie won't talk about it. Because she's guilty? Or because she's afraid to trust another partner? Just when Heath is sure he knows, a shocking revelation changes everything. Now all he wants is to keep Tracie safe…and give her a reason to believe in the power of love.
I saw there is a book before this one but I had already started reading this book. I don't like to go backwards in series but I would suggest reading them in order to fill in the details.
This was still an excellent read though.
Tracie Crandall is a Coast Guard. Her partner died 6 weeks ago and was involved in diamond smuggling.
Heath Gerlach is an FBI agent. He has been sent undercover as a Coast Guard to investigate Tracie. His boss has told him to get close to her to find out what she knows about her last partners crimes. As her new partner, Heath must get her to trust him, even if he breaks her heart.
This story is full of twists and plots, murders, explosions and false identities.
I loved the fact that this novel took place in Wisconsin. Tracie and Heath's relationship progressed at an appropriate pace, and the twist at the end even took me by surprise, but there were a few too many unanswered questions going into the final scenes.
A friend (MH) sent me this title in a box of books. I did not read book 1 in the subseries, so this can be read as a stand alone. (Another reviewer did mention that you might understand the relationships more if you read the subseries in order.)
The plot covers diamond smuggling, murder, investigations by the Coast Guard and FBI, undercover work, family legacies, and a few other subjects.
For me, Love Inspired Suspense romances work best when the two main characters have some sort of previous relationship to build on. I feel in the page limit of Love Inspired Suspense, it is hard to do justice to both developing a full fledged romance and doing the suspense aspect well. Heath and Tracie don't have a prior relationship and so to me, in the real world, I'd wonder if their love for each other would stand the test of time.
I do like that the author gave Tracie skills and allowed her to (at least partially) rescue herself instead of the plot being her waiting for Heath to show up and take down the bad guys.
I really enjoyed this clean, love-inspired, romance. I bought this at a local Goodwill store, and I voluntarily chose to review it. I've given it a 5* rating. This pulled me in pretty fast and kept me at the edge of my seat a bit wandering when the bad guy was going to strike again. There is a bit of action in this plus a loveable dog added to the mix. Lots of points of interest plus plenty of bad guys hiden in the mix. I enjoyed how it ended.

I wish there was a 3 1/2 star rating, as these books are generally not good enough for four stars. but this was one of the better ones, and I even got as theological insight from the author.
