The unpredictable and hilarious final book in the acclaimed Blondes series: In Beyond Blonde sixteen-year-old Sophie Kandinsky's world erupts: Papa leaves home to get sober; Mama retreats within herself; her first love, Luke, is forced to get married; and even her refuge in basketball is threatened. To make matters worse, her own body betrays her at every single turn! Luckily, Sophie's adored Blondes and audacious Aunties are there to help her navigate the cascading catastrophes and shocking secrets with humour and heart. Set in the 1970s and featuring addictive, vibrant characters, Beyond Blonde is the powerful, page-turning conclusion of a highly original series.
My earliest and most fervent ambition was to grow up and take my rightful place among the other mermaids. When cruel and insensitive adults crushed that dream by insisting that mermaids did not exist, I settled on the more mature aspiration of becoming an intergalactic astronaut. Then I realized that math would likely be involved. So, in the end, I went to Trinity College at the University of Toronto where I got a BA and then an MA in Political Economy taking great care not to take a single English or Creative Writing class. The only thing I knew for sure was that I was never ever going to be a writer. That would be silly, fanciful and well, unrealistic. And then I started to write...
I really enjoyed this book. Although there were a couple moments of "huh?" I liked the way the love interest was handled in this, and the way that whole storyline was wrapped up. And the matter of Sophie's parents' separation was really well-done: true, honest, and subtly handled. A satisfying conclusion to an enjoyable series.
Great ending to the trilogy! I honestly recommend taking time in between reading each one. It's a really cool experience. Bu t maybe don't wait as long as I did. I read the first one in 7th grade, the second in 9th grade, and I finished the last one last night. I'm in my second year of undergrad. And it's still effective.
the final book! I really liked this whole series. I loved the characters and the whole story and how Sophie went from the girl trying to impress the Blondes to actually being a Blonde.
