A humerus collection of quotes and stories. I can't claim it got an outright belly laugh, but it did get a small laugh or two and had me smiling at times.
After raiding my parents bookshelves for something to read I found this. I’m not saying my dad (whose book this is) was having a senior moment but; when I read a section of the book to him he said “oh that sounds good did you bring that book with you, I’ll have to read it.” The book itself is a bit of a mosh mash of all sorts of things. Plenty of famous and not so famous quotes. Enough corny dad jokes to even make my dad groan. Tips on what to eat, how to improve your memory and on gentle exercise (both mental and physical). I don’t think it was quite what I was expecting as I think I thought it would hold more silly anecdotes of senior moments and would be funnier than it was. Don’t get me wrong it has some amusing moments but it isn’t a laugh a minute book. It is the kind of book you can pick up and read a quote or two in between doing other things. I wouldn’t say this was a solid sit down and get engrossed sort of book but it is enjoyable enough.
This is an amusing collection of quotation and anecdotes that address all aspects of getting older, from forgetting why you went upstairs to realising that you can no longer remember your spouse's/kids/grandkids names. No matter what age you are there will be at least a couple of things in here that you recognise and for those moving up the age scale there will be many things that will ring a vague distant bell of recognition.
Because I am from US, there were a few jokes that I didn't get. This is a great book just just have lying around to casually pick up and read for a few minutes at a time. Enjoyable that way. I read it straight through and it can get a little old that way. I am 63 so I have experienced a few of these situations already first hand. Great to laugh at ourselves.
The author collated funny stories and quotes about everyday life of elder people. It is thus very entertaining and relaxing to read. If you are seeking an amusing book to relieve your stress, then it is a go.
It felt like the author got a contract to write a book and then couldn’t fill it. Having run out of quotes and jokes, he decided to add in health advice, American president quotes and even the age of people in the Old Testament.
Comical and a quick, easy read. Certainly good for thought and relatable. In many ways the book lacked structure and I became a little lost in lists of quotes. It’s probably best to dip and dive in and out of sections rather than read it coherently.
If you are retired you will recognise yourself in this book, so typical. It is a book to pick up and put down when you want a moments rest. I enjoyed it.
