Steph has a psychic gift that’s never led her astray. That means that when her gift encourages her to reach out to a dangerous and angry looking man sitting in the park near her house, she doesn’t even hesitate. Without fear for her own safety, she offers him food and shelter in her own home, unknowing that she’s about to be exposed to a world she never even knew existed.
Eli shouldn’t follow this human home. As a shifter that has trouble getting along with the powerful animal he shares his body with, he tends to be a loner. In fact, he stays away even from other shifters, so why is he agreeing to spend time with this fragile human female? But this cheerful, loyal, and fierce female surprises him at every corner and before he knows it, she’s not only important to his wolf, but manages to insinuate herself with several clan members without even knowing what they are. To add yet another problem, one Clan Leader is hell bent on using her as a means to an end. Then a rival Clan Leader sees her as a threat to his dominance.
With two Clan Leaders gunning for her Steph is determined to help the many abused shifters under the dictatorial rule of these men, instead of doing the safe thing, which would be to run. A battle is coming, but who will survive isn’t clear. What is absolutely clear is that Eli will stand by her to his last breath because there’s one thing that he and his wolf finally agree on. Steph is the most important thing in their life.
This is an 83K word contemporary fantasy novel with a HEA. This book is meant for mature audiences, 18+ readers only.
Usually I wait until I finish a series before I go back and reassess the first novel. But I ain't waiting on this guy.
This author's covers are trash (gorl, hit me up, we can fix that), but the book is FANTASTIC. Really. Zero complaints. The first book I read by this author, I struggled to adapt to her writing style for the first two chapters or so--but after that, it's been smooth sailing.
Capable heroine, great inclusive personality influence/characterization, really dynamic shifter plot, intriguing--but not overwhelming side characters, good syntax and vocabulary PLUS, bonus--fun pets (which seem to be hard to write into stories)!
Solid story. Read it if you dig shifter bookies~ Highly recommend!
An amazing plot that claims you and keeps you interested from the beginning to the end! You feel like part of the story as it unwinds pulling you in. The characters are awesome, so many different shifters, cruel alphas, wounded broken clan mates, and a beautiful kind human who adds balance and calmness to their torment!
I went into this book with an open mind but not many high expectations since it's the author's first book and I wasn't familiar with the writing.
However, I ended up really loving the story, characters and the plot. I would recommend it to those of you who enjoy romances with Shifters in it (here we have Wolves, bears, coyotes...) and a dash of Magick thanks to the Mother Goddess.
Steph really was the star of this book. I loved how she always ends up talking and talking and talking because she's a bit shy and when she's a bit stressed or anxious. I find it funny and very endearing.
I also like that the clan wasn't just made up of the same species. Bears, coyotes, Wolves... They become a huge mixed clan and I love that. It's a welcomed change from the usual shifter clans that are separated by species and type of animal.
I honestly can't wait for the second book to come out and see who we will read about next. I'm so curious... Either one of the secondary characters we met in this book, maybe one of the bears or coyotes. Maybe a mage... Or maybe new characters we haven't yet met.
Yeah... I really can't wait. I might even re-read this book in the meantime.
I got an ad for this book and read the summary, purchased and am very glad I did! Fun, funny and exciting! Steph goes from being basically alone to having a very large family! Exciting bits lead to a HEA worth the wait. Loved this story and recommend highly
This is so good and couldn’t wait to finish and was immediately disappointed when I did. I have read hundreds of shifter books and the one is going on my fave list. Loved it so good
I wanted to like it. I really did. The premise is interesting, the characters are interesting, it should have worked. My tolerance for playing "we have a secret" ran out the second time it would have been better to just get it out than keep lying.
Overall a great read and a twist on the usual shifter human stories. It would have been a 5 but for a few minor things: *It is written in present tense, and my brain is not used to it. It kept trying to change the tenses, even though it was written grammatically correct. Again, a minor issue that is not wrong,.. just not what I’m used to. *We start the story knowing the H has pissed off an important person and very quickly the MCs piss off another important person. These would be the villains, and it takes them forever to react. It’s not because they are plotting a complex revenge. They are slow and not very smart. In the time it takes them to react, our MCs could have prepared themselves. That time feels wasted. It would have helped build drama. *the H either speaks like he’s Shakesbeard or like his incapable of saying more than two words. The latter makes sense since he is a loner. I wish it was kept like that. *spoiler alert. There is a conversation with a deity at one point. It would have worked better if the conversation didn’t happen. Like she was filled with power and understood the mission. The conversation took away from the story. Also, though we know what she becomes, it was never explained what she was, so I rather the whole thing be ambiguous.
Other than that, the story kept moving. I wish her dogs had a bigger role. It looked like that would be the case in the beginning. The editing was good. The ideas different. The instant love on the H’s part makes sense just based on her being kind. On the h side, I think her connection to her gift can make you believe it. It didn’t feel forced. I say it’s a good read.
This book starts out slow, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but a lot of characters, world building, and explanations of the situation are needed. They are revealed in a logical manner as the characters develop. One thing I had to get used to was the use of 3rd Person Limited, Present Tense voice. It’s rarely used most authors preferring 3rd Person Limited, Past Tense or 1st Person Past or Present Tense. But don’t let that put you off, even though it takes some time to get used to it.
Steph and Eli are the perfect example of opposites attract. Eli is withdrawn, a loner, distrustful and damaged. Steph is outgoing, a chatterbox, sometimes too trusting (in both others and her own abilities), and has worked through her trauma. They balance each other which is a strong theme throughout the book. (Don’t judge, I like that in a book.) The attraction between Steph and Eli is well written and sometimes has you rolling your eyes and thinking “Would one of you just admit it, already?”
There are different types of shifters from Polar Bear to Maned Wolf (had to look that one up) to Coyotes. The clans are integrated so one clan will have multiple types of shifters. Steph lives and works in the “neutral zone” between two Clans, Lowell and Hunger Valley. Both are run by corrupt clan leaders.
Personally, I would have preferred a bit more of the romance between Steph and Eli, but his trying to protect her and her trying to heal/help others did create interesting conflict between them. As this is a first book in a new series, the world building overwhelmed the romance a bit. It was interesting /
I purchased this book during a free promotion on Amazon.
This book has a lot of good going for it. The characters are likeable. The plot is good, and even a little unique. The story doesn't go exactly as you expect it to.
I got confused about a couple of things but that have just been me. It would have been better in first person. I don't like for romance books to be written in 3rd person and this book sounded more like first person to the point it sounded like Steph was talking about herself in third person. In other places, it definitely felt like narration but something too knowledgeable? I tprealize that doesn't even make sense but it was definitely off. The way it was written was definitely the biggest draw back.
I'm a bit disappointed the rest of the series isn't about pack members. I wanted Chris to get a book. The main characters in the next book aren't in this one at all. Well, the ones in the blurb.
This author is a long way feom being someone I will follow but if I run across new books from her in the future with interesting blurbs, I might read more. I'm going to try the next book in the series. I'm not sure about the 3rd but the 4th book doesn't sound that interesting. I'm also not a fan of alien romance.
The cover was new in April 2022 and it is still bad. I don't think I want to know what the old one looked like if this is an improvement. The outer glow on the man looks cheesy against the backdrop. I do like that the number is on the front cover. I wish all books did that.
Finding this book was like a reward. How are people sleeping on this magical shifter romance? I absolutely loved this book and wish everyone could take a moment to read it.
Steph is a human, with a secret. She doesn't fully know what she is or why she feels and shares her powers but she can. When she sees Eli, a guy sitting on a park bench, looking homeless and being avoided, Steph is automatically drawn to him. Between conflicting powers and her eagerness to help, she ends up bringing him home and feeding him. What started as a total stray situation blossomed into so much more.
As Steph and Eli get to know each other, more shifters start to appear, strength is revealed and danger is on the horizon. To protect each other, they have to decide if they can make sacrifices to restore balance. This is a powerful story, full of strength, romance, balance and learning that strength is nothing without compassion to create a perfect balance.
Stray Wolf is book one in the series New Clan Shifters by author RK Munin. Ok first a bit of info- I found this author on TikTok (BookTok) and her video just grabbed me and made curious- yes I know curiosity killed the …. whatever- anywho I looked her up and let’s just I’m a fan! Ok so Stray Wolf is an intriguing look into the world of shifters - I should say a new look. The characters range from arrogant- sassy - downright evil and glorious. This book tells a wonderful story about balance and how life is so much better with it. There are some obstacles and some difference of opinions - lol. I can be a bit obscure in my telling- this lets you enjoy the book and it’s story. Anywho, I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Enjoy!!
This romance was enjoyable. The plot was exciting. The characterization was good, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals. The world building was vivid and fascinating. The culture of the Shifters was really interesting to read about. The development of the romantic relationship was sweet. I loved the fact that the heroine was the one who became Clan Leader and the hero became her enforcer and consort. That was a refreshing change from many shifter paranormal romance novels. Readers, don’t let the bad cover art and design fool you. This was a great read.
There is so much that I loved about this book. First, I love that it's third person POV. Second, it's well written. In addition, I'm seriously in love with the grumpy wolf shifter. The traditional opposites attract has a new twist in this story. And I can't express how much I love the human caught in the middle aspect. Especially when she doesn't know what is happening. I'm a fan of shifter romances, and this is a good one. There are a few things I wasn't excited about, but that ok. I was smiling by the end. A sweet HEA eases the plot twists readers don't like. Overall, a great take on a classic romance.
I love a book where you can see the growth that happens to characters in the story. And this book has it! When Steph and Eli first meet he wants nothing to do with pack or even people really. He just wants to be left alone. But as Steph starts helping more and more shifters, unknown to her that they are shifters, he starts changing and becoming more accepting of having people in his life. Sure it may be a grudging change, after all he doesn’t change personalities, but he does start accepting. And Steph? The ways she change? Fabulous! But you definitely have to read it to find out! Loved them both and loved the story and steamy scenes that came with them!
Steph sees a stranger sitting alone in the park and is drawn to him. She can feel through her power that he's safe. Eli fights with his wolf and likes to be alone but for some reason follows Steph home anyways. Eli is a growly protective wolf who wants nothing to do with anyone but Steph. Steph loves people and tries to help everyone. Together they discover that they are so much more than either thought before.
This is a good shifter novel with a different path to them getting together. RK has built a great start to a new series.
Initially I wasn’t sure what to make of this book. It flowed well enough and the plot was solid, interesting even. The characters were interesting, they had a depth to them that was good. There are difficult situations in this book but they were dealt with in a caring way. At times I felt this book wavered for me, I’d have times where it was getting interesting then slowed a bit.
It's a good read although very different from the normal shifter books . Threw me off calling it a clan instead of a pack . Bear shifters are clans , wolves run in packs . Lovely story nonetheless. Steph should have been a wolf along with her unique abilities . Fell in love with Eli , I do recommend this book , full of love ,laughter , friendship , a little ugly here and there but that's what made it a great read .
Gifted human woman, meets troubled lone wolf. Steph is awesome, she's sweet and loving, but takes no shit, and Eli is the typical growly Alpha, that's only sweet to his female. Loved the story and characters. This is the first book I've came across that's been written in an omnipresent pov. I struggled a little at the start with it (not the story just the writing style) and found myself re-reading the pov switches, purely because I'm not used to it.
RK Munin put together one of the most realistic stories I've ever read. It's the simplest things that stick for me. For instance, I know these are supposed to be romance, but if I've been running around working or whatever, I would not let anyone near my private bits without taking a shower first. Eli even mentioned wrapping and peeing! Most authors skip over these simple that makes the story more realistic. Fabulous read.
First time reading this author. I’ll definitely be taking a look at their backlist. A loner shifter noticed by an overly friendly human…..brings about a good shifter book that opens some other possibilities about humans…nice intrigue, angst, great story, and some smexy times!!
This is the first book I’ve read from this author, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. What a wonderful surprise to find that I loved it! I’m not usually a fan of first-person present-tense, but the writing and characters were able to suck me in immediately and make it well worth the read. Already have book 2 queued up on my e-reader!
I truly enjoyed this book. Couldn't put it down. I had to know what happened next at every every page. I laughed, I cried and felt as if I were part of the book. This book will definitely go in my keepers. The one's I read over and over again.
A human with powers, a wolf battling his human half, a mother goddess, and two clans with destructive leaders. This was a different take on shifter romance, and I will definitely be reading other books from this author. Danger, excitement, romance, interesting characters, great plot, and a very satisfying HEA make for an interesting read.
Absolutely loved this story! I could not get enough of Steph’s personality, she is absolutely the best female main character. She is caring, loving, and firm when she needs to be. The story is amazing, so many twist, so many different shifters and I was absolutely here for it! 100% recommend!
Wow! I absolutely loved this book… The storyline was excellent and the main characters unique and intriguing… The strength of good vs evil was amazing… It surprised me somewhat how things progressed, yet on the other hand it made sense… A really really great read…. With a happy ending 😁
This book has interesting characters, and good plot. Romance, all the feels and drama. Lots of different shifters, good and bad people. Strong characters, and interesting storyline. A few unexpected twists and turns. This is a new author to me, and I've been binging her books.
I love the storyline, the layout, and the pace! Not only a beautiful romance, but so many wonderful relationships between so many different personalities! You just gained a fan!
A really nice story with amazing writing. Characters that you just can help but relate to and a good story line that does not get old. A nice HEA makes this 5 stars in my book. But the cover sure did get my attention too. Happy reading.
A serendipitous find , tik tok got to love it. A free book who's going to say no. And what a happy discovery so good , loved the story, loved the characters just loved it all. BUT now will have to buy more of this author , so I'm gonna be poor! But worth it!!😂😍
I fell in love with the characters and that was a big plus.It had a different story line and that was great too! I couldn't put it down until it was finished.I can't wait for more .
