And all across the land there was peace… or so they thought…
Living in the Shifter Kingdom of Kallistar, Unicorn Shifter Sybil is trying to find her place in the world. As the last of her kind, and a half- trained healer, she hopes to be of service to her King and Queen. But before she can find her true purpose, Sybil is violently kidnapped and whisked away to the Kingdom of Shadowvale.
Chained in a dungeon, at the mercy of an Evil Queen, her only hope for salvation lies with the wizard Prince who has been raised to loathe her, just for being a shifter.
As Sybil begins to unravel all of the Prince’s deeply held beliefs, they realize something far more sinister is at play and war is on the horizon.
With courage, resilience and strength, the duo may be able to stop the war, but it will take more than a half-trained healer and a wizard prince to change the course of fate.

New to reading this author.. WHAT A JOURNEY. You are pulled from the first page, and the storyline is brought to you in such a unique way that is wow! I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I had the privilege of being an arc reader for Sky of Thorns by Fluer DeVillainy.
I'll be honest, I started reading this while at work..which probably wasn't a wise decision cause keeping an eye on my start time clock while trying to dive head first into this story, doesn't go hand in hand.
I feel like Sky of Thorns is a story that needs a readers full attention.
Within the first 7% mark I realised that I like the interaction between Nero and Aramis.
When I got to the 36% mark I started to feel like I'm the wrong target audience for this story, it started to feel more YA rather than mature audiences. It felt like the story had taken structure from a wattpad story while trying to find its own balance on being it's own story.
The further I got into the story, the further I realised how thick Aramis really is. Like the lights are in but no ones home mindset. It started to irritate me once I realised.
To me, Sybil read as a child who tried to act like she had seen much more than she's really been through. I'm not sure if it actually mentions the characters exact age, but I'm picturing her as a teenager.
When I got to the 60% mark, I realised that this story could be good for the right audiences. I managed to follow along the storyline even if I got frustrated at my realisations of the characters, I managed to see the imagery the author was trying to create.
In the right hands, it could be a 10/10. The right reader would be able to enjoy this story and possibly allow themselves to follow on the series that I'm assuming the author is trying to create.
Unfortunately like I mentioned before, I'm not quite the reader the author needed to put this book in front of. There's nothing wrong with Sky of Thorns, but it's just I'm the wrong demographic for this book.

Oh my, where to begin! This story has you hooked from the very first page. I mean, I was hooked when the author said the word 🦄 Unicorn --I was in! But she delivers this story beautifully, EXTREMELY well written and executed with elegance and grace. This story flows so nicely, there was a never a time where I just wanted it to hurry up and get to the next thing, as that is what the story does. It has wonderful pacing and intriguing characters and always keeps you on your toes as to where the story is going to go next!
The magic is ✨ chef's kiss✨ a morally grey MMC that has wind magic and oh. my. god. Yes please, I want. The FMC is a young healer/shifter who can turn into a unicorn and that just makes the story so unique to anything that I've ever read.
The story is original and intriguing, the characters are realistic and funny, there were parts where I laughed, parts where I cried, and parts where I wanted to scream at the author to GIVE ME MORE! There is a little spice in the book, but there are promises of more in the next one so. 😁. Can't wait!
And LEMON! Omg Lemon is just the perfect addition to the story. It is so well done, you can actually picture him! What a wonderful little sidekick!
It does end on a bit of a cliff hanger, but one of the best ones. She wraps the story up nicely, not leaving too many loose ends, but just enough to make you ready for the next book!
Fleur DeVillainy is an exemplary story teller. Her world building is exquisite and never too much all at once. The world she weaved of Kallistar and Shadowvale is intriguing and provocative, and I can see Fleur joining the ranks of the best sellers. This one is one for the ages.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 🌶️
Wonderful read, I cannot WAIT for more!

Oh man, I don't even know where to begin. I stumbled upon this author and book on social media and was immediately sucked in by the synopsis. I am a sucker for all things magical and shifters are my favorite character type. I knew right away I needed to read this book. Fleur DeVilliany is a new author for me and I can now say that I will be devouring this series as each part is released. This first book was a good introduction to the series and the world building was perfect. I think I was given enough of the story and character introductions to want to keep reading more. A lot of books in this genre are too quick moving and have to much happening in book one where sometimes you don't really "need" to keep reading. This first book was perfect, Fleur gave the readers enough to fall in love and be dying for more. I love the main characters so far and can't wait to learn more about them and the other groups that are coming. I'm obsessed with Lemon and have a sudden desire to acquire my own little companion friend. This book wasn't overly steamy (like a lot I've read recently) but I think the romance is perfect for a first book in a series and definitely leaves room for much growth. This is for sure a must read and I can't wait for more!
I think that the ideas for this book are great, I love the idea of a unicorn shifter and healer, as well as the people that have magic. I will say that I struggled a lot in the beginning with this book, not really any world building which made it a little confusing, maybe I just personally need more structure in a book. But it did read a lot like a FanFic, the relationship between two MC’s progressed unrealistically, the villain story line was predictable from the start. I hope that any continuation of the story does improve.

ARC REVIEW Rating: 4.5/5 The synopsis covers what the book is about really well, so I won’t divulge information that you’d see twice 🤭 BUT Y’ALL…this book!!!!! It’s giving he falls first. It’s giving her above anything else once he’s hooked. It’s giving “you’re my mortal enemy but I will do anything for you”. World-building is always a big thing for me in fantasy books and Fleur nailed it in Sky of Thorns. It wasn’t too little and it wasn’t too much. The main characters are great but I need a moment for the side characters (iykyk). Sybil’s pocket pal and Amaris’s side kick are fantastic additions. Amaris’s is the PERFECT side character and paired alongside Amaris as his “end all be all” AND being the lowkey protector of Sybil? Yes please. He is funny, quippy, and all around a very well-rounded character. I’m expecting big things from him 😂 Sky of Thorns is broadcasted as a slowburn but I think I’d put it moreso at a medium burn? Which I did not hate because y’all…just y’all 👀 Amaris knows what he’s doing with that power of his. I think Fleur ended this at the perfect place, and I’m definitely going to be eagerly waiting for book 2 of the series. This is easily the best ARC read I’ve ever done. I will absolutely be getting a hard copy because your girls gotta tab it up.
Completely loved this world and story. Loved the characters and situations that they are put into. All in all an awesome story and can’t wait to read more.
Sybil is a rare unicorn shifter, whose parents died years ago. She has always hoped to train to be a healer like them. Until the night she’s kidnapped.
Aramis is the prince of Shadowlands. His mother was killed by shifters and he harbors a hatred towards all shifters. His father is a shell of himself and his stepmother is evil. He performs tasks for her in order to “protect the kingdoms.”
He kidnaps Sybil under the guise that she’s a danger to the kingdom. On the way to turn her into his stepmother, he begins to feel things. He ends up turning her in and she discovers how evil his stepmother really is.
Turns out, they’re fated mates. And here he’s turned her over as a prisoner. And that’s just the beginning!
I listing to this book!! Omg the audio was so so good!! The narrators were amazing!! I will be getting a physical because love it!! Also I cant wait for the next book!! Such a great story & also love unicorns!! It also a slow burn too! 🌶️
This story was an absolute thrilling journey! From the characters, to the story and the adventure, beginning to end, it was amazing! It starts with a bang, and just continues to suck you into the pages from there. Sybil is a unicorn shifter, an a passable healer living a quiet and sheltered life in her village. Until one night changes everything. She is kidnapped and forced to travel to the kingdom of Shadowvale for crimes she didn't commit. Her kidnapper, Artamis is cold and unfeeling towards her allowing his hatred for all shifters to cloud his judgement. But along their journey one of his men is severely injured, and Sybil does everything she can to save the soldier. She is a walking contradiction to everything he has been told about shifters. Once they reach the castle, it becomes more and more clear that things are not what they seem. Is everything that Artamis has believed and held true a lie? Are all shifters evil? Are the shifters even the cause for all of the killing and turmoil happening in his kingdom? Or is something darker and more sinister lurking in the shadows using his hatred and prejudice against him? And can Sybil forgive him for the hurt that he has caused her?
Again, this book was just fantastic! The characters all were amazingly written and developed. I loved Nero! Even though he's technically a side character he was one of my favorites! The change we see in Artamis was heart wrenching! This man goes through the ringer emotionally. And the growth we see in Sybil was absolutely awe inspiring. She goes from timid and meek, to someone who is willing to fight to save her people. The storyline and plot were so well done, and really kept the book moving in a way that there was never a lull in the story. I just kept turning the pages, not able to put it down! I definitely recommend this fantasy read! I cannot wait for book 2!
It took me a while to get around to reading this book. I got lucky enough to not only get an ARC of this book but also get the stunning kickstarter edition. I was nervous about getting a book I knew nothing about. But, despite my reservations, this story knocked all my thoughts out of the water. From the start, the story drew me in. It didn't start with a bang, but it started with a falling star. Something so inconsequential, but yet foretold such disaster and such adventure. Sybil is so relatable. She went through all the emotions. Anger, fear, desperation, compassion, and even slight jealousy. I can imagine myself as Sybil and reacting the same way. Her situation sucks. I knew from what Aramis said and the feelings Sybil was having, that dread, that something was off with Triscella. She's a crazy b**ch. Aramis angered me most of the trip, but I understood his prejudice. Though, it took him long enough to get hit with the common sense branch. Thank you, Nero, for that. You are nothing like the crazy man that holds your namesake. I loved all the characters. Yes, even the crazy villain lady. Every good book needs a good villain. Every hero needs that adversary. I'm so needing book 2 like right now. But I'm the idiot who got this book as an ARC and has to wait even longer than other people 🙄
I listened to the Audiobook Narrated by Jacci Prior & Anthony Palmini
🦄 Holy Unicorn this book was so good. I was sucked in right away! The narrators were amazing it was hard to stop listening.
This book is a fun romantasy adventure with enemies to lovers, one horse, one bed, magic, shifters, super powers, Pride and Prejudice vibes, a strong FMC, fated mates and a new book boyfriend!
This book was so good. I could not put it down. I fell in love with the characters. It was like reading a fairy tale with a unicorn shifter and a handsome prince. And an evil queen who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next book in this wonderful romantasy series. It was phenomenal. I highly recommend it.
Wow, I truly loved this novel. I thought Sybil was an amazing strong character. And felt I was on the journey with her. As for Aramis I loved him too. A fab MMC and loved how you got to see him develop through the story. I can't wait to read the next one. If you are looking for a shifter fantasy adventure this book is for you.
Trigger warnings: Kidnapping Violence Blood Profanity Open door sex scenes Alcohol/drugs Slavery/imprisonment Death War Mental health (depression/anxiety) Starvation Fire Many are lightly touched on
Tropes: one bed One horse Forced proximity Fated lovers Enemies to lovers Evil queen Shifter characters Slow burn romance
There were some VERY cheesy scenes and dialogues surrounding the loss of a critical character and discovery of mating bonds.
Other than the few cheesy dialogues this book had me wanting to continue reading and devastated to learn the next book in the trilogy won’t be released until 2024.
I did scream at the MMC a few times, I will not lie. Aramis is the MMC who is less so morally grey and more a do-good with wind magic. He has an evil stepmother who exploits his moral superiority and determination to protect his people. The FMC (Sybil) is an insecure healer/shifter whose parents met an untimely demise and left her to fulfill their dreams for her to become an incredible Unicorn healer. Lemon is Sybil’s best friend and furry companion, you will come to love this little guy and her need to constantly check on him! Nero is a fantasy version of Outlander’s Jamie in the way he talks. If you aren’t used to reading the subtitles of Outlander you are in for it! And then there is Tricella, the evil queen stepmother we all come to hate.
If you’re into magical powers during battles, shifter characters (draken, unicorns, wolves, tigers, etc), kingdoms at war only to discover dark magic has turned them against each other, then this book is a must read. There is very little spice and you will encounter it at about 95% through the book. Their brief physical contacts throughout the books keep you hooked.
I enjoyed the world building and loved the emotional support animal that kept the FMC company and furthered the plot on multiple occasions. It’s giving every cat lady’s furry best friend on an adventure with her.
Personal note to Fleur; we need Nero to get his own less troublesome version if Clair in the sequels 😂
*Sky of Thorns* is a captivating blend of romance and adventure, set in a world teetering on the brink of chaos. Fleur DeVillainy expertly weaves a tale of intrigue and prejudice, where the boundaries between enemy and ally blur as the story unfolds.
The protagonist, Sybil Vandeleur, a unicorn shifter wrongfully accused of treason, finds herself at the mercy of Aramis Adrastos, the crown prince of Shadowvale. Their dynamic is charged with tension, as Aramis grapples with the conflict between duty and desire. However, while the slow-burn romance between Sybil and Aramis simmers beneath the surface, the book leans heavily into world-building and character development, laying the groundwork for what promises to be an epic series.
The intricate setting and the looming threat of rebellion create a rich backdrop that draws you in, though it does mean the romance takes a bit of a back seat. The story ends on a tantalizing cliffhanger, leaving you eager for the next installment.
Overall, *Sky of Thorns* is a strong start to what looks like a promising series. It’s perfect for fans of romantasy who enjoy a good mix of world-building, magic, and slow-burn romance. I’m excited to see where DeVillainy takes the story next!
This was my first book by this author and I have to say I enjoyed it so much! Books about shifters are not in short supply but a unicorn shifter? You have me hook, line, and sinker. High fantasy setting, animosity growing between neighboring kingdoms, animosity being sown more between the shifters and the mages, a horrible queen, this has it all. Oh did I forget it has one of my favorite tropes? I’m not spoiling it for y’all but I am a sucker for a certain romance trope and this delivered. Also Lemon is ADORABLE. Lemon should be the main character I love him so much the little rascal baby. This was so well written and the story is incredible you won’t want to skip out if you’re a fan of fantasy. *I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review*
I wasn't expecting to like this one as much as I did. Sybil is a unicorn shifter, captured from her home and taken to the queen on charges of leading a rebellion....but that couldn't be further from the truth. As she's taken to the queen, she begins to see her kidnapper, Aramis...the freaking PRINCE...differently. Does she dare hope he could see her differently, too? For him to not hate her because of what she is, and to believe that she has nothing to do with the rebel shifters wreaking havoc on villages....it would be nothing short of a miracle.
Nero is the prince's closest friend and comrade. But he also has huge secrets he's been keeping from Aramis. He may be out of time to break the truth to him gently, with Sybil escaping and the queen sending the two of them after her - again. Will Aramis believe Sybil about what the queen is really doing, or will he bring her back to her death? Will Nero finally reveal his truth, and the truth of the kingdom, to Aramis in the hopes that he can make things right?
I cannot wait for the next book in this series, the end was a cliffhanger, and I need to know if they make it to their destination!
Oh my goodness! The plot on this book is beyond amazing! The way that it is all laid out will have you on your toes and waiting to see what happens next! The characters are well developed as well as their own personal stories! If you love stories that involve magic, thrills and a mystery; well then this is the book for you! It will leave you wanting more with each page! Just when you think you know what’s happening, the plot twists and thickens. It’s truly worth the read and so much love for the author!
It took me a bit to finish this story due to life, not the story itself. I had a hard time putting it down or walking away from it when I had to. I found myself engrossed when reading, then speculating how things were going to go when not.
Fleur crafted a very detailed world that has me wanting more and can not wait to read the next installation.
If you like the graphic audiobooks of ACOTAR you might like this. For me, they are very cheesy and the narrators are a bit robotic. The story was okay, but this isn't a favorite of this year.
This was a little slow coming out the gate, but as the book continued, it became difficult to put down, I really enjoyed this one and look forward to where this story goes
The people of Kallistar believed the land was in peace… but darkness stirs in the North…
Arc Review 4.5⭐️ 🌶 This was a great introduction to this author. The whole story is interesting and fast-paced, which I love. You get enough world building and a small amount of politics to go along with a love story. Enemies to lovers, forced proximity with a well-done magic system. I fell in love with little lemon immediately and now want a little companion of my own. The ending left me wanting to know so much more.
You’re telling me I have to wait until the summer of 2024 for the second book?! This story was well written and had my interest through out it. Even had one of my favorite tropes: fated mates 🤭😮💨 Fleur, thank you so much for this ARC. This story unfolded the way it needed to, and delivered.
