It’s happened to all of we fall asleep alone and wake up cuddling a cat.
But that isn’t our cat. We don’t own a cat. Of course, that hasn’t stopped him from breaking in and finding the most comfortable bit of the linen closet to claim as his own.
Whether it’s our next-door neighbor’s tabby who always appears in our yard or a ragdoll who has somehow slipped through the open window on the second floor, cats have a way of ending up in our lives (and cupboards) when we least expect it.
This Is Not My Cat is a collection of stories and photos of the cats around the world who have charmed their ways into our lives (and occasionally scared us in our bathrooms).
Stevie Holcomb is a friend of mine. She began the Facebook group "My house, not my cat." That group lead to this book. It has photos and stories about cats who made themselves at home with people who were not their owners. The book is a delight to humans who have been taken in by feline persuasions.
Most of the time I am not a fan of cat-based books that start off on the internet so when I found out this was a Facebook page I honestly thought of setting it aside. Fortunately for me, though, I chose to give it a chance while finding it really much more enjoyable than those other reads.
This Is Not My Cat is compiled so each entry is a chapter whether it includes just one page only or maybe a few pages depending on the length as well as the size of the included photo(s). Each entry is titled by the cat's name or description if unnamed, which I didn't like at all as at times it made the name a bit repetitive right off the bat. A few paragraphs or sentences are then given to explain the situation that led to that cat's inclusion in the writer's life, where it may have come from if known and how things are possibly now standing before ending with the author's name.
Each entry is provided with colored photographs capturing the rebel cat while some may have web enhancements and many have arrows pointing out which cat if there are multiples is the one in question. The only exception to this was in the case of the two torties for Mamas page.
All in all it is most definitely a quick read and one that many cat-lovers will agree with whether they have been adopted or not. And there may be a hidden giggle or two for those who have been around these capricious beasts to begin with.
I laughed even harder at this book as this is how my Mum has managed to obtain most of her pets. All kinds of dogs or cats have appeared at her door. Despite avid neighbourhood rounds and appeals, no one comes forward to claim the animal. Welcome to the zoo... This pictures along with the stories is beautiful. Perfect for cat lovers and those who just love animals.
It was a lovely day where I live and I sat out on my deck this afternoon to enjoy this sweet little book, thoroughly enjoyed the stories, a few of them even making me teary eyed and some made me cry.
Pictures of cats at homes where they do not belong along with funny or touching stories about how the cat ended up there and where the cat really belongs.
The cats are cute and I love that they have all found homes, some of them shared and some of them found forever homes. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't spectacular.
There are some gorgeous pictures of cats who are visiting homes where the people living there don' think they belong (although sometimes that changes).
