Stir Crazy: 100 deliciously healthy stir fry dishes in 30 minutes or less

Rate this book
100 deliciously healthy stir fry recipes in 30 minutes or less.

Stir-frying is one of the quickest and easiest ways to cook - and one of the healthiest, using little oil and retaining more nutrients than many other methods. It also requires very little equipment - all you need a wok, a knife and a chopping board. Learning what separates a good stir-fry from a great one, however, is not always so easy to master. Indeed, it is all about timing, knowing when to add what and how to get the best out of each ingredient.

With tips on everything from controlling the heat to using the right oil, bestselling author Ching-He Huang has gathered a collection of delicious dishes, simple enough for every day and with nutrition, taste and affordability in mind. Many are gluten and dairy free, as well as suitable for vegans and vegetarians, and include both Asian and Western ingredients readily available in any supermarket. So whether or not you eat meat, love carbs or prefer to avoid them, want something special or find yourself having to feed your family, Stir Crazy will do the trick.

100 quick wok recipes that do exactly what they say on the tin—though it could use a few modern twists.

This cookbook is a wok-lover’s dream, covering everything from Chinese staples to Taiwanese, Malaysian, and Korean-inspired stir-fries—all in half an hour or less. The intro is short and sweet, with handy sauce recipes and cooking tips for anyone new to the wok game. The meat and chicken dishes stand out: they’re big on flavor, color, and variety. But the vegetarian section doesn’t quite shine. It leans heavily on eggs, leaving vegans out to dry, and could’ve been better organized by focusing on tofu/legumes separately. Also, if you’re a fish fan like me, you might find the offerings a bit sparse (where’s my beloved skinless white fish fillet?). Finally, not every dish comes with a photo—an oversight in our Instagram age, especially for a celeb chef. Still, if you’re looking to jazz up your weekly meal plan or sneak more veggies into your diet, this is a great, reliable addition to your kitchen shelf.
