This is a tough one.

Plot.....
I really want to give this a 5, but it just falls short. There is a lot to love here, but ultimately these forgotten MLJ characters are more highlighted than showcased.
That said, I still kind of loved it.

Basically an excuse for Archie to roll out its back catalog of obscure, forgotten comic characters. It turns the whole book into “wow, look, it’s that character!” but you never really learn much about the characters, likely because they were obscure and forgotten. If they had chosen just a few instead of shoving as many as possible in, this could’ve been a more interesting showcase.

Just as the cover illustration suggests, this volume is a light cartoon romp of a story. It's full of fun in-jokes and the kinds of character interactions that can only happen in comic books. Of course, even a scant knowledge of certain legalities will tell one that the real purpose of the story is to ensure that Archie Comics keeps hold of its copyrights.
The implied statement of the story (outright stated in the cases of some characters) is that this is not the last we've seen of these funny animals, serious adventurers, and redundant teenagers.
Following the story are helpful profile pages that give us a little more background on these characters. While Archie Comics has brought some of them back for the modern era, it hasn't found a place for all of them yet, even some it promises to here. Archie is a hopping place today, and I can only hope that we will yet see new tales of Cosmo, Gloomy Gus, and Super Duck.

Public library copy.

This awful book read as if the publisher was on a red eye deadline to hurry and publish a book featuring its library catalog of intellectual properties from 1940 so as to ensure the copyright didn't lapse. And the publisher decided the only way to ensure a sale was to incorporate all the characters into its only marketable title, Archie. I'm sure the freelancers hired to write and draw the book tried to take their best step forward, but a story like this was doomed to fail because there's no way to tell an interesting story with a huge cast of derivative characters mixed into Archie's one universe. It's be like watching a Star Wars movie and then Sherlock Holmes, the bee from Honey Nut Cheerios, Captain Marvel, Chip and Dale, and all the Duck Tales cast all joined together to fight...I dunno, Nazis.

My first Archie and Friends graphic novel and I wast too impressed. Maybe it was the story about meteors and inter-dimension comic book stuff. I dont know. Not giving up on Archie and Friends but didnt really like this one.
