In the near future, a mysterious neurological disorder infects one in fifty thousand people and spreads when the host is conscious and active. Cerebral Nervorum quickly leads to the degradation of the individual’s motor functions and memory until an inevitable death finds them days later. Unable to afford gene editing therapy to tame this disease, Michael elects to take the route of being placed into a medically induced coma with the support of his fiancée Eve. This is the common treatment option for the lower and middle class of society to cope until a cure is developed and viable for the general population.
Several years later, Michael and five other patients awaken to a world where an alien force has nearly wiped out the inhabitants of Earth and flattened its cities. The group faces a deadly game of cat and mouse from these beings and simultaneously a race against the clock from the fatal disease that is eating away at their minds and bodies. Michael and the patients learn that there is an underground sanctuary where survivors are gathering a few miles away. What keeps Michael going is an audio journal Eve left for him during his hospital stay. It allows him to hear his love’s voice and gives glimpses of the past and events leading up to the invasion as he traverses the wasteland of the city in search of the human encampment.
Patient 3 is my debut novel, a Science-Fiction / Suspense for young adults.
My favorite books to read are the post-apocalyptic variety that explore the reasons of how society got there, why it remains, and what leads the agents of change rise up from the ashes to spark revolution.
Things I enjoy doing outside of writing; Golf, Volleyball, Trivia, Stand-up comedy, sportsball events, and other random nerdery.
The blurb on the book described this as a dystopian novel, complete with aliens and life and death situations, But, upon reading 75 % of the book, come to find out, the entire book is a dystopian novel, but it's about a reality show in the future. I didn't sign up for a reality show. Quite disappointing that the book is all fake and a company/studio went out of their way to hurt people. There was no conclusion to the story of Michael and Eve, who the studio even tried to break up their marriage with their lies. I respect the sanctity of marriage and don't care where this book was going. If it had stayed on track before the reality show aspect was revealed, it would have easily made it onto my FAVORITES book list, but because of the twist into reality showbiz, I can barely give it a 1-star rating. I've deleted this book from my library. Highly recommend you stay as far away as possible from this book.

In the near future, the main character is put into a coma-like state to wait for a cure for a mysterious disease. He wakes after seven years to an alien-destroyed world and a quest to survive. There are lots of surprises waiting, both for him and for you.
The story was fun and the characters likable, but this is a plot that has more twists than a slinky. Don’t assume anything, be sure to suspend your disbelief, and you’ll make it out alive.
Coy Dugger’s narration was fine, although it was a straight read without accents or inflections. That made it a little difficult to know who was speaking at times. There were also places where no pauses between sentences kept the pace irregular; that might have been the editor’s fault, but it was annoying.
Apocalyptic themes, some violence, no sex, and no foul language.
3. I gave it a 4 stars on here because of it being a solid debut. I enjoyed the first half, enjoyed the twists and turns but as others have said, going through the same story again just from another perspective was not great. That’s the only major thing I didn’t like about the story. Keep up the good work, look forward to reading more.

Michael was diagnosed with a disease in which there was no known cure let alone what caused it. To live until a cure was found meant being placed into a deep coma. Everything he loved, everything he knew when he went to sleep was alive and well. Then seven years later he awakes to find everything he knew and loved was different; everything except for his roommates who were being woken up from their comatose state as well. Now the race is on to get to a safe place, find his family and the cure. Out there, in his world where nothing he knew remained and where beings from his wildest dreams hunt him, Michael takes off with voice recordings from his wife, food, a map and little else.
Chris Chau takes a terrifying story and adds a few twists that leave the listener thinking “Oh yeah, I knew he was going there” only to be left instead with one’s mouth hanging open declaring “I never saw that coming!” The characters are appropriately developed – some more than others in order of importance to the story. Barely longer than 6 hours, this story had the potential to be much longer, and actually, I hated hearing it end.
Coy Dugger was the narrator who performed the story with a smooth pace and a natural tone. He helped add to the suspense and never gave anything away through tone inflection or voice. I have not had the pleasure of hearing him perform before but I hope to again.
There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.
I would highly recommend this book if you want something unique and different.
I can hardly believe this is the author’s debut novel! I can’t wait to see what else is in store, especially for patient 3! This book was an absolute page-turner—unique and fresh compared to others in the genre. It’s packed with suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat, a dash of horror that sends chills down your spine, thrilling action that keeps your heart racing, and even a sprinkle of romance that adds depth to the story. Most importantly, it’s filled with writing that keeps you guessing at every turn! The character development was fantastic, making them so easy to connect with and root for. If you’re searching for a book that captivates and holds your interest from start to finish—this is the one!
**I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review**
What an exciting debut novel!
To avoid giving any spoilers, all I can say is that this book will keep you on the edge of your seat, just dying to find out what’s going to happen next! Patient 3 is suspenseful, thrilling, and intense (in a good way!) For anyone who loves a good plot twist, you will love Patient 3! I guarantee you will think you have this book figured out, but just you wait and see. The author also did an amazing job of seamlessly tying everything together in the end to bring the story full circle. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this read :)
I rate this first novel a 3.5. I love science fiction and I love dystopian themes, so this was bound to intrigue me.
The premise of the story was really interesting and progressed at pace - when it got to about half way the protagonist changed, for me that’s where it ran into problems. To be perfectly honest, it was just a bit dull going over the exact same ground but with from another perspective.
Having said that, I enjoyed the story and would read another from this author. This had a bit of a Black Mirror feel to it which I’d love to explore in future books.

The story here is good, with a lot of unexpected twists. I’m not sure they all worked but either way it was interesting and hard to put down. Unfortunately, as is true with so many e-books these days, it would benefit from some editing. Many errors in missing words, wrong words, etc. that make a book difficult to read as you’re stumbling to fill in as you go. Definitely a good first novel and a creative story.
It was the first post-apocalyptic themed book I've read. And I gotta say it did not disappoint. I liked the book overall. The pace of events was great and the plot was quite interesting. The author did an amazing job of describing the post-apocalyptic scenarios and feelings from the characters. I loved the shocking twists throughout the story. Nevertheless, I understand why the ending might not entice everyone. Personally, I don't mind the ending - it was decent but not the best.
I did not see this coming! Just get this book, read it and experience it yourself. I am fairly picky with books, it needs to be captivating or else I don't finish. This story is good, thought through and the twist at the end, Wow! I did not expect that. I'm very impressed this being the first book of the author. I hope somebody turns this into a movie. It's destined for it.
Talk about intrigue and a tale full of surprises! Michael, the main character, is an i innocent in all the nefarious goings-on in this tense drama. You never know what will happen next. When you read the great reveal,, you will be shocked.
Imagine sitting down thinking of several different ideas for a book and then throwing every single dumb idea into the book at the same time and all of them are garbage. That’s patient 3.
This book has so many twists and turns. I could not put this book down! So exciting and so many interesting twists. Read this book it's not what you exspect.
