My name is Victoria Brigham, and I'm a wolf--without the were.
It's funny how a single day can turn your whole life around. That's exactly what happened to me.
When I ran from home, I did it to protect my family from myself. I am not to be trusted. There's a creature living inside me that I cannot control. I was doing the world a favor by hiding, and doing what I did best: finding missing animals.
But when my father shows up at my door and asks me to find my missing sister, I'm unable to say no because it's my sister, and my wolf's interested. And my wolf always gets her way. Except, when she's interested, people end up dead, too.
I should have packed my bags and run away to the edges of the world that same night, but I stayed. And I searched. And I found much more than I bargained for.
As if the wolf controlling me wasn't enough, a new set of powers is awakening inside of me, battling for dominance.
The world had never really intended to leave me be, like I'd thought for five long years. Instead, it's throwing everything at me like it wants to find out just what my body and mind is capable of handling. *Disclaimer* This series takes place in the same world as the Winter Wayne and Scarlet Jones lseries, now completed: Winter Wayne Series:Bone WitchBone CovenBone MagicBone SpellBone PrisonBone FairyScarlet Jones Series:Storm WitchStorm PowertStorm LegacyStorm SecretsStorm VengeanceStorm DragonEach of these series stands alone, but if you're looking to follow the exact timeline of events, you can begin with Winter Wayne.
I think the promise is there, but character development needs to take priority to action sometimes and these characters need a little work in order to be relatable.
I enjoyed the author’s Bone witch series until the last couple books - where it just seemed to become a chore to read. I started the Storm witch story, but found many of the same frustrations and couldn’t continue.
The main character then drove me away. I love strong willed characters, butshe was simply har-headed and obnoxious. You don't face someone as stron.g as hr foe and absolutely refuse to prepare yourself first. I am sure it worked out, but I can't make myself care.
I am a very strange person because I have several people who are truly beloved even though I’ve never met them. It’s the love of a junkie for her drug pusher only in this case it’s the addiction is for great fiction with the pushers being the authors who create it. D.N. Hoxa is a prime example of that. As such I thanked heaven when this particular “pusher” appeased my addiction by coming out with new “product”, namely (hallelujah) a whole new set of stories, the Victoria Brigham series, the first book of which is Wolf Witch. And what a book! The eponymous Victoria is an amazing character (a werewolf unable to actually shift into a wolf, but with the wolf inside her - and, we learn, so much more potential - how cool is that?!) and her story is an exciting “bumpy ride”. It is also extraordinary fun (and, as expected, well written) ride indeed. Set in the same world as the authors fantastic Winter Wayne and Scarlet Jones series (and, as an aside, if you’ve missed either of these you’re missing out on something fabulous), this series stands alone perfectly and it’s first book totally drew me in both by its own well written plot and also by the start of what I sense will be an amazing overarching story arc filled with a wonderful cast of characters. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Wolf Witch is the first book in this new series. The author does a fantastic job in laying the groundwork for this series. The characters are thought out, relatable with some mystery and intrigue. The plot line is incredible, I love that it allows for the series to continue to grow. The storyline hooks you and keeps you flipping the page to figure out what is going on.
Victoria is the heroine of this story, she is a hilarious pet finder; that’s right, your pet goes missing she will track that furball down. We find out this is part of her animal side; we learn that Victoria is a multi-sided character. I love her wolf side, the protector, the fierce fighter, and the all-around butt-kicker. Victoria herself, is a hilarious, snarky, sassy gal; but not the fighter that is needed for this story; but do not fear this adds to the story.
Red is the secondary character of this tale, but he is a Vampire; which of course, is the sworn enemy of the Wolves. He is a man of mystery, he is helping for selfish reasons; he is retrieving a person item. The relationship between these is a bit hostile with a bit of flirting.
I enjoyed the main characters interactions and the development of the story, I look forward to seeing book 2!
Loved this exciting book. Victoria grew up knowing she was unlike any other werewolf that she'd ever met. She could smell far better than any paranormal being, and her wolf was far bigger than any other. Then there was the odd perk of being able to talk to humans. You see no preternatural creature could speak or be seen by humans. Not that they are banned....humans for some strange reason just didn't recall anything. Yet somehow Victoria could, and used it to her advantage. After fleeing the people who raised her after overhearing an argument about her....She now it's a P.I. of sorts. She found missing animals. She liked her life as it was, yet in ONE measly day it all changed! Numerous "clients" suddenly wanted her to use her nose to find a being. One who is mutilating werewolves and other animals cruelly for sacrifice. She was all set to decline these requests until her "father" says her sister is missing. She quickly realizes its all connected. Ahh exciting read with lots of Suspense and action, plus a number of surprises. Along this ride Victoria learns new truths about herself.....Yet they lead to far more questions!!!! I for one cannot wait to see what happens next! Who is friend and who is foe??
This book has an interesting concept. I really wanted to find out what the main character was. The writing wasn’t my favorite though. The words used were simple (example: I so, so, so didn’t want...) There weren’t any descriptions. The fight scenes were rushed and chaotic, and not very believable because of the lack of descriptions. I didn’t know the placement of the characters during the fight scenes and that made it hard to follow them. The main character seemed childish and kept running away from the people who wanted to help her. She found out that her sister was in danger and completely lost her critical thinking skills. The story was hard to follow because the things would happen out of the blue with no warning or description of how it happened. The only mention would be after it had happened (like at the end of the book when Red, Amara, and the main character were running, there was suddenly a silver arrowhead poking out of Red’s chest and as the main character is freaking out about it, she suddenly notices that Amara is on the ground after being shot.) Good story concept, although I feel like it needs added depth and a little bit more believable characters.
Raised by werewolf parents, Victoria has a great nose. With it she can track any lost animal. She also hates bullies. If a man beats his children or his dog, she takes action, swiftly, brutally. That is when her wolf takes over. With three dead bodies behind her, she leaves all she knows and loves, unable to control her wolf. After she is approached by a notorious werewolf to find the man who is torturing and murdering wolves, and changing others with blood magic into mind controlled beasts, she tries to block the gruesome pictures from her mind. A search for her sister puts her into his sight, and she becomes the hunted. This is a great story with awesome worldbuilding. Paranormal creatures abound, but humans cannot see them. Werewolves only take a manwolf form, save for her. Why is she so different? Will she save her sister, or become a pawn of powerful witches or wolves? Full of gritty realism and a hint at a romance in the future. I look forward to reading more by this author.
ONE EXTREMELY INTENSE READ!!! OMG! Talk about knocking your socks off. All the drama, uncertainty, determination, fear, deceit, betrayal, danger and suspense increases steadily while tension spirials make for one thrilling experience. Hoxa doesn't mess around. No pulling punches, no holds barred, taking no prisoner is her go to response. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises that leave no doubt she's up to any challenge. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this little jewel together beautifully. They're complex and believable with such depth and individually it's easy to relate. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive it's easy to picture each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Hoxa did an amazing job bringing this read to life brilliantly. Remarkable job Hoxa, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
I think this book was ok. It is about a girl who keeps her wolf hidden frm the world because she is afraid it will hurt someone and she has no control over her. Something terrible happened that freaked her out, worried she would hurt her family so she ran away to try and keep them safe. The story begins 5 years later, she is like a pet detective, wel she searches for animals that are missing. 1day her father randomly shows up telling her that her sister is missing so she goes a mission to find her sister. I thought the story was OK but there were times where I was a little unsure what was going on. For example while she was in her wolf form, her wolf never allowed her to see what was happening and because of this I was confused and kept reading over the same sentences thinking I understood it wrong but once her wolf allowed her to see it became easier to read. I'm not sure if im going to read the next book
The first I've read by this author and I'll search out more. I'd give this a 3.5, but rounded up because I'll definitely read the sequel.
I read an advance copy before the final proofreader edits. While normally poor editing bothers me I was able to put that aside here and enjoy the story and the world. I feel like the character changed rather quickly, almost too quickly, but as the events were pretty wild in her life so that wasn't too much of a stretch. I enjoyed her spunk and the main character's ability to call herself out when she makes poor decisions. The romance was a little predictable and I was confident throughout that the main character would escape all problems without lasting harm, however I didn't put it down for the last half of the book because I wanted to know what happened next.
Wolf Witch by D.N. Hoxa Victoria Brighan finds lost pets because she can smell them better than anyone. She ran away from her parents and sister five years ago because she was afraid she might hurt or worse, murder them. Gia has a wolf inside her but she has no control over the wolf. When the wolf comes out, the wolf does what she wants, she has murdered three people already. Her father comes to her one day because her sister is missing and he wants Gia to find her. This takes Gia on a frightening ride. She meets Red a strong handsome vampire who saved Gia a few time. I found this story so interesting and loved the characters, can't wait till the next book comes out. I highly recommend this book. I received an advanced reader copy and have voluntarily chosen to leave a review. This is my honest opinion.
Rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents. We meet Victoria, an unique werewolf shifter who finds ppls animals for them...its a living. She ran away from home 5 years ago after bad things happened. Now Finn, the were who runs an agency needs her help...animals and ppl are dying gruesome deaths...she wants no part. Except hetlr father shows up on her doorstep asking for help as Vicky's sister has gone missing...that's what did it...she's gonna find her sister then disappear. She's got the best sniffer around but when she smells smtg bad her inner wolf has to investigate and what she finds is what she expected and to top it off a vampire saves her. An adventure for Victoria to find some answers to questions she's asked her whole life and trusting a vampire is smtg she will have to do to find her sister.
Victoria is a wolf but she can’t shift she has the wolf inside her, Victoria’s job is to find missing pets her nose never lets her down she can sniff them out easily. One day her father comes knocking on her door and tells her that her sister is missing so now she has to go and find her sister but it’s not as easy as finding missing pets. Along the way she meets Red who is a vampire he is willing to help Victoria but for his own selfish reasons, Victoria and Red are pretty volatile together because wolves and vampires are sworn enemies. There is a cliffhanger at the end and I can’t wait to read the next book, a fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
Finn, a werewolf with a interesting agency has been trying to get Vicky to work with him for a while now. She meets with him and he shows her some disturbing killings of animals. She doesn’t want to look into it for him but she ends up doing it anyway and gets more than she bargained for. She almost dies and the first time is saved by a vampire named red. He has saved her life twice and she’s not sure why. When she is asked by her father to find her sister, she finds out her sister is mixed up in the same stuff where other animals are being killed. Vicky is still trying to figure out what she is. She knows she’s a werewolf but she doesn’t understand why humans are able to see her and remember her. I’m interested in reading the next book in the series
First let me say that I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book, but it in no way influenced my feedback. I always leave an honest review. Holy shiznet!!! This story was awesome. I love Victoria, Gia, she's such a snarky thing. She thinks she just a werewolf, but she's so much more. Oh & Red, that man is hiding something I just know it. I don't want to say much more about this story because I don't want to give anything away. I want you to read it. I can't wait for book 2. I recommend this read 5 Thumbs up
I came for urban fantasy and I got urban fantasy with a witchy-shifter twist. Loved the plot. It was engaging, kept me guessing and wanting to know what happens next. However, I struggled with the narrator of the audiobook, the scent part of the world building and the female main character who felt rather unbalanced and made rash decisions over and over that felt lame rather fast. It also felt as if a team were in the build up as well as the hints laid for several of the author's other series. For now, it remains to be seen what happens next, and, yeah, go team Victoria.
Interesting story that ties in with the author’s previous world building. It is a fast paced and exciting read. However, we don’t learn enough about the main character to become fully invested in her. The author often drops in very noticeable foreshadowing hints. The book would be better without the hints, just letting it develop at it’s own pace. I would have given 4 stars if not for the constant foreshadowing.
This book is the story of Victoria Brigham. She is a young lady in her early 20's who is trying to discover who she really is, and what life has in store for her. The story is fast paced and the ending leaves the reader up in the air as to what is going to happen next.Worth keeping an eye out for the next book in the series !
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved reading this book. It was extremely emersive and I enjoyed it imensely. The characters were stong and entertaining, supernatural hijinks were highly entertaining and the world was new to me but tied everything together with flair. I'm excited to read the next book in this series, as well as other stories of this world as it might expand my understanding of this book :-)

I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and the story and characters were well developed. I loved the female character and her quirky personality. I thought the story was excellent. It was action packed and full of suspense, intrigue and emotion. I would highly recommend this book!! I hope there are future books to make this into a series!!

Victoria was a werewolf... or something. All she ever wanted was to be left alone. But Fate, and a vampire named Red, had other ideas...
Red needed Victoria to find something for him. Victoria’s father needed her to find her sister. Evil forces want to use Victoria. And Victoria... Victoria just wanted to be left alone....
Wow! Incredible storyline, well developed characters, and plenty of unexpected twists and turns! Can’t wait to see what happens next!
I have Kindle Unlimited so I read a lot of books. There wasn’t any major flaws in the plot line, but it was rather weak. Victoria is one of those characters that you are mildly interested in but also annoyed with because they cannot seem to make intelligent decisions. She kept rushing into danger with no training and no plan. I plan on reading book two and seeing if the character shows any development in intelligence and fighting because she kind of sucks
the story was good but Victoria was a little annoying when she agonised over every little thing and then charged in to everything without any sort of plan and wouldn't take advice from anybody and then seemed immensely surprised when it all went wrong. I prefer the type of main character that owns everything makes the best of it and gets on with the job of sorting it all out to her satisfaction of course.
Interesting heroine, a woman at the mercy of the wolf inside her--one who isn't like the other werewolves. It provided a whole bunch of problems and tensions, and I liked how vulnerable that made Victoria. I was also a big fan of Red.
Victoria made a lot of stupid decisions, in a blind panic to find and rescue her sister. I didn't like it, but I bought it. I liked her moment of strength and rebellion, and the complexity of her character. I'll be continuing the series.
Character development w/depth as deep as a ocean. The personality of the characters are so we'll thought out it's as if, D H Hoxa must have had these as ol friends. I truly look forward to the next book in this series. I received a free copy but voluntarily reviewed.
I want to like the book. I love all the other books but you made the main character so so stupid She is so stupid She doesn't know she is stupid. And selfish, if Red is dead it's her fault by insisting no matter what they had to do it that night very irritating. I do hope you bring Red back, he was a likable character. And I hope she get a couple brain cells
She is a witch but she has a wolf inside her who wants to control her body. She hides away finding missing animals but when her father arrives telling her her sister is missing. She knew she should run but it is her sister. Her life is about to become dangerous. What will her life become? See what will happen
