Interesting read.

So this basically takes the idea of Bruce is dead and Terry has to face off against a Living Gotham, basically an AI controlling Gotham, a super intelligence if you will and it's not the most original idea I'm the world but I kinda liked it. Also it controls soldiers like Sword of Gotham and it can be anyone so that's a fun battle and new boss of Wayne-Powers aka Lumos and it makes for an interesting read.

The idea of Terry facing off against this is done in an interesting manner and actually removes Bruce and BB as you know him and puts him in a new yet familiar territory which as a long time reader of BB comics you may like.

Also one thing I like is how the narrations are like Terry's messages for Bruce and maybe he is writing it in a journal somewhere I presume which is kinda awesome.

And then introducing the villains and having multiple fights and showing how will Terry save the city but especially the people here is the big story and it's awesome and really well done.

I love the characterization of him and introducing a new love interest in Beam Boonma, strange name but makes for a good dynamic with her and how he saves her and what she makes him realize he needs to become is a major arc for him and so she has become one of the most important BB characters and her role only grows from there ;)

I loved the art here,it's very punk noir and so it will make for a good read so definitely read it!!

A good book. I liked the story of Terry McGinnis becoming his own Batman. The artwork was great. It fits the story perfectly.

I think it was an interview I saw with Bruce Timm when he was asked about doing Batman Beyond after Bruce Wayne had died. He said never and I was cheering this decision I think in the to have Bruce as a mentor and teacher to the tough bit untrained and inexperienced Terry was a great thing, but now Terry has much more gained that experience it is time for Terry to step out of Bruce's shadow and that could not happen with Bruce alive. It was definitely time for Terry to become his own Batman.

I like the story of Terry coming into his own and the new Gotham, with a new villain. It was hood that Terry tried to do things Bruce's way, but he is not Bruce. If I had one complaint, it would be that I think the end was too rushed. However, I am very interested in what comes next. The book finishes with both a variant cover gallery and a sketchbook of character designs.

Batman Beyond was one helluva show.

Picking up a comic left some big shoes to fill. I am pleasantly surprised. I full on expected garbage. Honestly, one of the better comics I’ve read in recent memory. Now to be fair, I’m absolutely biased because I love Terry and for whatever reason I let down my walls on all the pills I had to swallow for this comic to work. I ought to do that more often. A solid 2-4 star range. Any 1 or 5 star ratings might be a lil sus.

Solid in my opinion.

My first time with a Batman Beyond comic and it opens with Old Man Bruce dying. What a way to kick off a narrative! Of course, it turns out he was killed by the...living electronic version of Gotham City? A foe certainly suited to Batman Beyond, but also one that's pretty hard to grasp, even as the narrative does offer up a physical manifestation of the villain for Nu-Batman to battle.

Ultimately, the plot plays out somewhat predictably for a book that's resetting a universe. We meet new friends and foes (who will clearly play bigger roles in future volumes). Terry comes to terms with Bruce's death and his new role as the only Batman. And Gotham City is...defeated? Who's to say, as the city itself certainly isn't razed to the ground.

I suppose I'd pick up the next volume, but this one was kind of standard-issue Batman material and not much more (though with solid artwork).

The perfect length for the perfect story!

Batman Beyond: Neo-Year was a 6 issue mini-series that finished out the original story of Terry McGinnis and an elderly Bruce Wayne. Bruce has died. The city is alive and Batman doesn't fit into the equation. Neo-Gotham is in for (yet another) fight.

If you liked the TV series, 'Batman Beyond' and if you were able to keep up with the comic book storylines (Yes. Even the 'Future's End' Tim Drake jumping forward in time and wearing the suit) then you're in the right place. This storyline / miniseries ends the Batman Beyond story for a bit and it will get a bit of a reboot in 2023. Enough callbacks to make it memorable and enough new ideas to keep flipping the pages.

Bonus: How many years are we past the animated series? Is this still being read
Bonus Bonus: In a tech filled world, you'd think they would have gone anti-tech sooner. Hmmm..

I really, *really* loved Batman Beyond when it first debuted. So did DC, because they’ve tried multiple times to make a going comic that captures the spirit of the original show and I think Neo Year is the best job they’ve done since Beyond 2.0.

Terry’s voice has the same biting sarcasm he had in the show, but with a fun noir twist that I really like. Terry starts journaling monologues to help process Bruce’s death and figure out his next move to save the city those monologues have a Frank Miller-esque quality them that feel nostalgic without devolving into unhinged ranting like crazy Uncle Frank is prone to do in his modern work.

I think the art team has a better grasp on what made Beyond visually appealing too. The original tv show featured a suit that was sleek, minimalist, and had a strong silhouette. When Terry dons a disguise or builds a new suit, his clothing isn’t bogged down a thousand extra lines or details that make him look busy like in the Rebirth era. I really hope the art team sticks around for this series, because this is exactly what I’m looking for from a Batman Beyond comic.

Now let’s talk about the antagonist, because this is gonna be what makes or breaks the book for people. The concept is sound, a rogue AI develops and hijacks all the access points Bruce installed in the city’s infrastructure at the start oh his crusade and throws everything it can to kill Batman. It’s a great commentary on how outdated city infrastructure can be and suits the cyberpunk setting. It’d be a great villain for one episode of the show, but it’s so powerful that it makes you wonder why it had so much trouble killing Terry, and when it finally is defeated at the end of the story, it went down so easily that I don’t think the author had a clear idea of how to kill the new antagonist.

Regardless, this is the most excited I’ve been for a Batman Beyond on-going in years and I can’t wait to see what comes next!

What a comic. With Terry mcginis being my favourite super hero I was always hesitant to read this as once I do it's gone, but I am so glad I decided to and now I have finished it all in a single night. Terry finding his way and realising he can never be like bruces Batman is perfect following the death of Bruce Wayne. Love the romance between Terry and beam, love the older version of Barbara Gordon. The main villain, the living gotham was great a huge threat who constantly beat Terry down until the end , taking gotham and everything he knew and loved away from him, murdering Bruce Wayne. Luminous was also a good villain, a selfish man who's not necessarily evil but allowing the living gotham to wield him as a tool in his desire for power. Now, the ending. Perfect. All I can say for it really, Terry recreating the jokerz and the rest of the city aside from the rich to fight back made for an awesome finale of unlikely team ups. Best comic I have ever read.

Pretty Schway.

I liked the Gestalt dudes. I don’t think it was stated but I wanted the Sword of Gotham to be a little more Azrael. Living Gotham is a cool idea though.

As a HUGE fan of Beyond, this was absolutely perfect. A great continuation of the series and a heartfelt send-off for this version of Bruce Wayne, and Terry stepping up to be the Batman he was always capable of.

Can't recommend it enough, it's a fantastic limited series on my favorite iteration of Batman ever.

I would give the book 3.5 stars if possible because it’s slightly better than average. It has moments that are 5 star and others that are 2 star but most are 3 star. I think the concept and idea are or at least could be very interesting if fleshed out more. I think the progression of Terry’s character was the highlight but outside of his character arch the threat felt mediocre and not very fleshed out. There were some themes there that could’ve made bold statements or commentary about humanity, greed and A.I. to name a few, but it just lightly brushed over these heavy concepts.

What happens when a system becomes so broken it corrupts and abuses the people it was meant to serve? The system becomes a tyrant.

In Neo Gotham, Batman faces a system that will kill its own citizens to maintain balance. A super-intelligence possesses Gotham, and using hard light it fills any shadows. But in Gotham, the shadows are not a source of fear, but hope.

At the start of this chapter in Batman’s story, a dying Bruce tells Terry, the new Batman, to go beyond what he failed to achieve. Terry tries to find Bruce’s killer, and when he eventually does he finds himself outmatched. His tech is obsolete, and this new threat, the Sword of Gotham, tries to convince him Batman is also obsolete. This Sword is an avatar for the “Heart of Gotham,” the new super intelligence haunting the city.

A lot of old questions are brought up in this story. Is Batman actually effective? Is there a point to him anymore? If there are no shadows, where can Batman instill fear? How can Batman become hope? The status-quo in this story is not whether Batman is keeping criminals on the streets or failing to prevent crime, the status-quo is that the system is so corrupt that it has incorporated the old methods of fighting against it into the system. Batman has to develop new methods in order to fight this super intelligence. He cannot keep a secret identity anymore, he must trust people. He cannot rely on himself alone to save the day, but in this case, he must rely on two powerful women and a trio of jewel thieves to save everyone. He must go beyond what he used to be: self-isolating, distrusting, arrogant, in order to save the city he loves, a city that has become his enemy. In these new methods of honesty, trust, and humility he goes beyond what Bruce achieved and changes Batman.

Excelente!

Bruce Wayne is dead and it's time for Terry to embrace being Batman, so this is an ongoing thing for Terry time and time again DC have given him stories to show that he deserves to be Batman and this one does work well.

We get a tech villain where Terry has to distance himself from his whole supporting cast, so he must dig deep and find new allies in this strange new Gotham run by AI. It's a super interesting story but the villain truly fell flat, the motive was it became self aware but at no point does the story expand or explain what it say to make it this way, it's just hateful and constantly trying to kill people, at least Ultron looked at the internet for 5 minutes.

You get a secondary villain with I kid you not, glow powers and he's main accomplishment in this is talking. He tries to blend into the story, there is an exchange between him Terry and Barbra but I was never invested, it just seemed like a side quest.

What really sold this story and got me invested was Terry because he wasn't a helpless child. As soon as Bruce dies he identifies the threat and tries to take it down, it doesn't quite work so throughout this he's constantly trying new things. He goes undercover, recalibrates his suit when it runs out of power and becomes very hands on. At one point there is even a villain on the lose and instead of trying to take it down he convinces it to work with him to take down the bigger threat.

There is just so much this had going for it but it did feel like a set up to a bigger story. Being this was a mini series, it's a very weird way to go about it but as I have the sequel book I look forward to reading it.

So, from a purely objective perspective, the story is fine and I loved the art. Terry McGinnis has always been one of the most underrated Batman successors in my opinion, and I personally think he's one of the best. In Neo-Year, the idea of Gotham itself being the enemy, not just in the subjective sense but in a literal is an interesting idea to tackle. The Cyberpunk setting feels much more realized in this, almost feel like this could be taking place in the grimy Night City Streets in Cyberpunk 2077. And in theory, Terry being forced to full step into the Batman mantle after not only losing Bruce Wayne, but also losing all of the bad-gadgets provided by Wayne and his legacy as Batman can work. Show why Terry deserves to be Batman outside the suit.

But personally, I think I have issue with this book because the show Batman Beyond was the reason I came into this series. And within the first issue, the comic feels like it quickly dusts its hands of all the show's legacy. As if the Colin Kelly wanted to just ball it up and toss it to the waste bin so they can start fresh. It feels surreal to watch Terry fight so hard to make sure being Batman doesn't overwhelm being Terry McGinnis in the series, that watching him immediately allow Batman to subsume Terry McGinnis in the first few pages feels wrong.

I also don't feel like Terry would dump his long time girlfriend Dana and hook up with Beam Boonma (yes, that's actually her name) feels a bit surreal. Apart from a brief glance, we don't see him even mention any legacy characters again. Max, Dana, his family. All are just pushed to the side. Which is especially weird because at least one of those characters canonically knows he's Batman.

All in all, it's a fine read, but it's personally not that great for me.

Bruce Wayne is dead, killed by Gotham City itself. With technology literally out to kill him, Terry McGinnis goes underground to fight a one man war against an entire city.

I wanted to like this a lot more than I did. i think the issue is that there's too many villains running around. You've got Gotham itself, and then all of its many proxies. I get that the idea is that everyone is out to get Terry, so he's meant to feel isolated, but it comes across more crowded than anything else, and then the ultimate conclusion to the story is rushed to fit everyone in and make sure that everyone has something to do.

I'm also not a fan of Terry's new love interest, when we still haven't really addressed Dana and Max from the previous run, and Matt's nowhere to be seen either. I think there's a throwaway line about getting them out of the city at some point, but that feels like a cop-out.

On art is Max Dunbar, who's been doing the rounds at DC. He has some fun with the futuristic designs, and playing with light and darkness when Terry battles the glowing proxy villains whose names escape me right now.

Batman Beyond's latest outing leaves a little to be desired. In trying to reinvent the hovercar, it forgets most of what made it special in the first place.

I mean.... meh.

Neo-Gotham has rejected the city's present Batman and has taken away the man who bore the cowl first. Terry must face a foe unlike like any other he has come into contact with alone, with none of his old allies left to guide him. With the city at its brink, Terry faces new enemies and the daunting task of protecting Batman's legacy.

Alright to be a touch more erudite in my opinion. I think the plot was similar to that of the device it heavily feature; a hologram. Shallow, sparking facade (lovely art), but nothing of substantial substance beneath all the beauty and illusions. It was a shaky, simplistic storyline with one main villain with minimal depth or complexity. Sentience without complexity makes for dull conflict. It was an interesting concept but the pacing was rushed and left for minimal development, character-wise. With new faces taking most of the panel-space, it was crucial to build intrigue but cool chapter design only gets you so far. This was a lot of flash but not a whole lot of substance. I commend the artists, the writers on the other hand... well you tried (and failed).

Great book! Incredible artwork from start to finish, with a decent story that is very well-written.
The colours and drawings are absolutely spot on! Looks just the way it should in my opinion (a perfect comic version of the 90’s Batman Beyond cartoon). I loved the look of Neo-Gotham also: was very well-drawn and futuristic looking!
The book starts off with a Great first issue with a brilliant introduction to the story, however initially I was a little disappointed to find Bruce Wayne instantly dead. However, I suppose it makes sense for this story and allows us to focus on Terry McGinnis.
The rest of the issues are very enjoyable and action packed, but for me the strength in the book is the dialogue and art rather than the actual narrative. But it’s still good enough to hold up!
Would definitely recommend!

This was a great story with a fantastic climax. It allowed Terry to climb out of Bruce's shadow and truly be a different Batman. Only issue is that he could've stopped it all IN THE FIRST ISSUE!!! He defeated the AI, eliminated it, and choice to let it live because it was a living entity?! Seriously?! Would've been better to have him fail at eliminating the AI and have to build up from there instead of just choosing to let this AI run rampant and murder a massive section of Gotham's population. I'm looking forward to the next Batman Beyond stories because of where this ended but it really faltered with that one choice in the opening.

I was feeling nostalgia for the Batman Beyond animated series and had always wanted to see the character explored more (in comics or otherwise). This is the first comic book take on the character I’ve read and it was a really great balance of what made the show feel both like flashy fun and dark cyberpunk. It felt like an extension of the show with less limitations from censorship or simplified sci-fi elements. I might have another favorite comic book artist from this. The ‘upgraded’ suit he gets near the end is such an incredibly perfect and restrained design. So much fun, and not just from nostalgia.

The premise is that after the death of Bruce Wayne, a new Batman has emerged, Terry McGinnis, a rather colourless character. This time, Batman is battling against the evil corporation that Wayne Enterprises has evolved into. And this corporation, like many large ones today, is a rather sinister and encompassing one which kept sending robotic samurai or ninjas with swords to attempt to kill a Batman who can now fly with his suit. In a way, this is refreshing, not the usual by the numbers fisticuffs with a grinning Joker, however, the sentient AI and sinister corporation shtick is rather old too. Still, it is refreshing. Some of the art in this volume is excellent, especially the spreads.

An ode to the classic "Batman Beyond" TV series, "Batman Beyond: Neo-year: is a gritty continuation of that story with amazing artwork and the feel that the ethos of the show still lives on. Bruce Wayne is now dead, murdered by a mysterious assailiant, and it is up to Terry McGinnis (aka Batman Beyond) to find out who is guilty, and to get justice for the original Dark Knight. But times have changed, things are darker now, and Batman has to navigate a Gotham City that may have taken a life of its own-literally. If you are a Batman or Batman Beyond fan, you need to read this book.

I loved this.

In a DC kick lately and picked up some comics on the cheap. This is the latest Batman Beyond collection for Neo-Year, and I really liked the premise and execution. A solid 6 issues for a story that puts Terry in a tough spot that questions how he feels taking the role of Batman without Bruce chiming in his ear.

Terry McGinnis deserves more time in the spotlight and Neo-Year was a good chance for him to keep showing he's a different, yet formidable Batman.

This comic tells the story of Terry McGinnis, the successor of Bruce Wayne. Terry McGinnis becomes the batman after Bruce Wayne retires from being batman. The story takes place in Neo-Gotham, a modern, cyberspace version of Gotham. Overall the story was nice, the panels and drawings were flashy, but I didn’t really enjoy the pacing, as I felt that they skipped some key details as well as having a longgg time skip midway through.

I wasn't loving this at first, because so much of Batman Beyond for me is Terry and Bruce's partnership, but... This one grew on me. Barbara helped, and Boonma, and the fact that we got some NEW characters rather than dragging up everyone that went to high school with Terry. But most of all what got me is that this book, at heart, is a requiem to Bruce Wayne, and even more it's a much better one than I've read before.
