BROOOOO. Can my people just be happy for like, one second?

If they don’t get a happy ending i stg, Ms. Wismer will be hearing from my lawyers.

Now this book was a silly goofy time, but with the Cam stuff, and Westcott situation we didn’t get nearly enough Reid. Need him to be at least 80% of the book.

3.5 stars, still fun and I cannot wait for the final book!

his forehead falls against my shoulder, and almost too low for me to hear, he whispers, “there you are.” 2.75⭐️ ummmm what was that 😕
after the ending of book 2, this begins with a huge shift plot-wise and im not a fan of the direction it went. i also felt like the writing wasn’t as good as the first 2 ? but still enjoyable.

things i enjoyed:
- just as easy to binge as the first 2 books :)
- the addition of Reid’s POV was everything!!! a much needed escape from the darkness of Val’s chapters. when he instantly knew the body wasn’t her >>>> 🥹
- Connor’s role in this book was interesting! i went from disliking him to looking forward to his blunt sarcasm. watching him and Reid interact and work together was giving me TVD vibes ahahaha
- the first 5 chapters seeing the dynamic between Val & Calla and the compound… was intriguing but ended up being so short and overlooked
- the love confessions 🥹💞

things i didn’t love:
- the pacing felt slightly slower than previous books
- we did notttt need to spend that much time with Cam at the bully wolf camp… im not a werewolf girl and never will be 🙅🏼‍♀️ maybe a werewolf alliance sure but adding a whole ass love interest?? no one asked for that
- 3 books in and the magic is still so confusing and vague!! Val’s magic is especially random… sometimes she can and sometimes she can’t access it and it varies from spell to spell but we. never. explore. it. further!!! 🙃
- i also understand that Valerie was traumatized for most of this book but she felt so … gullible? disconnected? stupid? lol like why didn’t she second guess more things especially where Reid was concerned
- characters brought back from the dead which is fine maybe once but three times????
- lots of repetitive scenes or transitions (nightmares, fades to black, kidnappings, etc)
- the spice didnt rlly hit (especially w cam🤢)

i’ll definitely read the final book soon but i think imma take a break and read something else for now ✨

So I'll be honest. I basically hated this. The previous two books were fantastic but this one... Wowza.

SPOILERS - like for real don't say I didn't warn you.

So here are the issues. Not only is the plot all over the place but most of the things that happened in this book are so unnecessary and had barely any build up to it. Things just happen *poof*! And then as the reader were just supposed to be like, "ofc that makes total sense."
Examples:

The "relationship" with Cam. Literally came outta left field with barely any build up or expectations. And then he's suddenly all attached or at least enough to come to her rescue. Also, besides a possible love triangle or tension with Reid, what was the point? Yes, she gained some comfort but after each encounter she felt like shit. It sure didn't seem like comfort was gained here. It would've been better as a platonic relationship, bonding over their lost loves. After the friendship was cemented the author could've turned it into a love triangle or something later but the way this was written was so bad.

The compound. What was the goddamn point of that whole thing. Yes, it introduces us to the wolves and her dad but like... If the point was to show political discourse it failed miserably. We were barely there long enough to find anything out that would make us believe they have some justification in their actions. Nothing happened that built a semblance of trust. And if the goal was to gain her trust, killing Reid was the dumbest thing they could do! Even if they revisit this later, the author needed to have laid more ground work here. If Reid is such a threat, the ending of the book should've played off that.

Connor. He's a total shithead by the end of the second book. His "personality" seemed cemented. But then suddenly hes not a complete asshole anymore??? What triggered this change? Anything? It was so random and didn't add anything to the story at all. Poor development with that plotline.

And WHAT THE FUCK was that ending? Now there is a secret engagement? BARF. LIKE C'mon!! That just pissed me off. He spends the whole book being like, "nothing will ever happen to you now that I'm here" and in the next paragraph she's being beaten, abducted, or having bones broken. And now he's got a secret engagement. Again, another plot point that was just unnecessary.

There's honestly so much about this book that was poorly developed. Plot holes all over the place and characters making decisions that seemed out of left field. I really liked the first two books so I'm pretty disappointed in this. I feel like the author felt pressured to fit popular tropes in and sacrificed the integrity of the plot in exchange.

JUST when I think, maybe, just maybe, they will be happy.... the plot twist proves me wrong. I JUST WANT THEM TO BE HAPPY UGH!!!! It was a little slower than the past two books, but I understand why, had to build up the plot a little bit more. On to book four, ready to be destroyed and put back together again, can't wait :)))))

3.5?

I don’t even know how to rate this book.
The plot felt so messy and all over the place, the same things keep happening, the same people keep coming back and no answers are given. The entire time she was in the woods with the wolves was just a waste of time, even tho I loved Cam. Also, Katie just decided to bring everyone back from the dead!??

This book just left me more confused, but I have to say I’m still interested in the characters and wherever the hell this story is going to go.

The last two books left me with this curiosity and want to read the next two books, but now? yeah—no. I might read book four. Maybe, if I’m feeling like it.

But genuinely, I don’t know what to say.

Let me get into some specific things that just didn’t do it for me

1. Cam. Fucking ew. Every single moment that man was on the page I wanted to hurl, he gives me the ick. He’s Mr. Ick to me. Gross, ew, ew, disgusting

2. Oh cool so everybody is just alive? Bringing Calla back I could get behind but Quinn?? Really?? Stop. I hated that

3. The PACING it felt like we were in that camp FOREVER I SWEAR this book could have been 100 pages shorter if we just cut some of those scenes; there was literally no point, not a single one

4. The atmosphere. A thing I really liked in the first two books was the atmosphere. The whole damn thing was just so atmospheric, but all of that was sucked away in this one

5. “the world went dark” over and over and over again, okay we get it. stop passing out

6. that ending? with the cliffhanger?? my current theory is it’s the girl Val saw when she was on the ceiling in book one (if i’m not forgetting something) but either way, I hate it. I can’t STAND that trope, and it’s literally there for drama, that’s it.

7. When the russians showed up I literally almost threw my kindle, it was that bad

8. Calla and her dad just… don’t show up again?? they leave her to rot in that camp and then we get whatever the hell that ending was???

We had SO much to work with when we started: the blood deal, her father and his plan, the Wendigo’s, CALLA, HER NINE SIBLINGS, we could have gone in SO many directions, and it just felt like every single one of plot points were put on hold so we could go hang with the wolf boys.

It’s 3 am. I’m tired, and just so DONE y’all

good fucking night.

Vampires and werewolves and blood deals oh my! I ended up enjoying this one more than book two, Wicked Souls. While the plot in this does move pretty slowly for the majority of the book, I was interested in seeing all the different settings and how Valerie had to adapt to these new situations. There’s a lot of dark stuff going on here and for the majority of the story Valerie is separated from all of her family, friends, and loved ones. While it wasn’t the most lighthearted story, it was compelling to see how she reacted to what was thrown her way.

The ending of the book did feel pretty rushed. What was introduced is interesting and the cliff-hanger conclusion definitely has me wanting the next installment. I just wish it would’ve been spread out a bit more rather than squeezed into the last 6% of the book.

Valerie Darkmore is free from the wendigo curse but now she is in an even bigger predicament, thousands of miles away from her home with her family and friends - including her partner Reid - thinking she's dead. Valerie has to figure out how to get home without braking the blood deal she made with mysterious anti-hero James Westcott but it turns out that Valerie's not the only one who can come back from the dead.

Another gripping book in a great fantasy series, I liked how we got a little bit from world building novel as Valerie was taken away from the estate, and the influence of the Marionettes, and brought to a different sort of community where we see witches, vampires, halflings and werewolves all coexist.

I do love a werewolf, and I enjoyed the time in this story that Valerie spent being quietly tortured in a werewolf camp, learning to survive without her magic and with loss and guilt weighing her down. I do think there were some things that Valerie just accepted a little bit too easily such as Reid's supposed death (both she and Calla were both alive after faking dead so why did she think Westcott couldn't fake Reid's death to get to her?), and I was also a little bit surprised at Valerie's sexual relationship with Cam and I actually felt a bit turned off from their first sexual encounter as I just didn't expect it.

I think the pacing suffered in this book a lot. Valerie's time in the camp feels really slow, and then we get glimpses here and there of Reid and Connor's journey which honestly didn't add too much. I also felt confused when Quinn showed back up, as yet another character who was suppose to dead but was actually alive and it made me really wonder how this whole world works and if anyone is competent. Once Valerie and Reid are reunited, it felt like things ramped up in a way that just became messy and confusing as things happened one after another.

The book could have easily ended and this would have been the perfect cliffhanger ending. But instead we get some necromancy magic, followed by another attack from some Russians (really?) plus then some kind of fight including wolves and a 'big reveal' - all in the space of a few pages and I honestly at that point stopped caring a bit as it got ridiculous.

(3.5)

My least favorite of the series, so far but still good. There were plot points I wanted more of aka the Westcott mystery. I went into the book expecting that to be the main draw of the book, but it felt quickly discarded in favor of less compelling stuff. I know there are still more books to come, so I know we will learn more about Westcott and his role in things before the whole series is over.

But I was expecting some of the questions about him to be answered and was a tad disappointed they weren’t. The middle of the book felt like it had no real impact on the series, but we won’t really know that until the series is completed. The last section of the book felt redundant to things we already read. And the ending was surprising (it was reminiscent of a certain Grey’s Anatomy episode), but it didn’t pack the punch as the last two cliffhangers.

Despite all of this, Bloodless Ties is still a fun read. It’s a long book, but I breezed through it in a day. I was never bored at any point in the book. It kept me entertained and interested in seeing what would happen next. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series and hopefully finally getting answers to some long-awaited questions.

OMG. **CHEF'S KISS** This book was perfection! PERFECTION! I couldn't wait to get my hands on this after I finished the second book and I am heartbroken I have to wait A YEAR for the next one especially with the CLIFFHANGER LIKE WHAT?!?

Just so so so good I have no words. This fills the void in my heart that was left after the Vampire Academy series. If you are looking for an adult version of the VA series then THIS IS FOR YOU! One of my favorite new series ever, 10/10 recommend!

That ending came out of absolute no where. Katie really pulled that one right out of her ass. A fiancée? Really? Maybe I’m not remembering something from earlier books but wtf. Also, the Cam thing. Going into this book I was expecting Cam to be an actual threat to Reid’s and Valerie’s relationship and he was just kind of a blip that held no real stakes. Still enjoyable just kind of idk. Left with more questions than answers. Looking forward to the next book

I mean this in the nicest way possible but wtf is going on 😂

This series continues to throw so many twists and turns and I love almost every second of it. I did consider there to be slightly unnecessary drama but maybe I’m wrong and it will all make sense when the final book releases next year!

Reid continues to be the best book boyfriend ever and I will die on that hill. Valerie shows even more character development in this book and amazes me with her relentlessness.

I can’t believe the author put us threw another intense cliff hanger (rude😂) but of course it leaves me wanting more and I can’t wait for the conclusion of this series.

Ah yes, finally we get more steam! This third book had me from the get go! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! I don’t want to spoil anything but at some point I felt like this was a cross over of The 100 and New Moon 🤣 there were defiantly more twist in this book and wow I had a hard time anticipating the last portion of the book. I’m enjoying the dark progression of this story with all the new characters and emotional turmoil! It’s almost too much but also not enough! More spice and bone breaking than the last two books and I’m very thrilled for the next one.

You know what? I'm done. I'm DONE!
I'm really thankful I looked up spoilers for the ending because if I wasted the rest of my night finishing this book just to get to the last page and find the man I've been rooting for and PICKED THIS BOOK UP FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE is ENGAGED... oooohhhh the rage.

Let us start from the top:

1. Every chapter in Valorie's POV ends THE SAME WAY. She blacks out/falls asleep/collapses/ etc. It became so comically repetitive. She'd even be just blacking out in the middle of chapters. It really felt like Katie didn't know how to wrap up these scenes at all.

2. The PACING. Oh my Christ, was this sloooow. And also, pointless. The meat of this story really felt pointless. By the time Reid found Valerie I could not care less anymore. Any kind of tension-building was diminished over time. It just did not work. This book could have easily been 100 pages shorter.

3. The atmosphere of books one and two is phenomenal but suffered so badly in book three. I understand that Valerie was supposed to be at the lowest of a low point and that was reflected in her surroundings, but it did not make for an enjoyable reading experience.

4. I don't even want to talk about the relationship with Cam. Ick, that is all. (praise kink is yummy but not from him). When Reid is built up so high for the reader for TWO books just to introduce this new, downgraded, and unnecessary love interest is just a recipe for garbage.

I really feel like I can go on, but there are better reviews that say the same thing and more about how disappointing this book was. I think this is where I stop with the series because I KNOW the next book will most likely be rampant with miscommunication and I'm really not here for that.

I can’t even count how many plot holes there are

Spoilers

Pacing is just bad. Multiple chapters spent on developing a new romance and plot when there are other things left unresolved in the story line, making it way too chaotic. The important plot developing chapters feel incredibly rushed and short. I felt like the author was just trying to reach her word count for majority of the book.

Also Val just conveniently forgets there are cameras all over the estate??? She’s just going to turn a blind eye to her mother and the Queens wrongdoings??? The two previous books established the FMCs morality and then in this book she just completely leaves all her morals behind??? Only morals that matter in this book is if she can get laid or not. I get the Val underwent change, but you don’t just lose your sense of morality like that. It’s very frustrating. Make it make sense.

This book was so good! I've lost count of how many times I've said "what the fuck?" and "get that dick babe". I didn't expect this book to be as good as it was but from start to finish it captured my attention and love. My girl Valerie has been through so much and I'm so glad she was finally reunited with Reid, Adrienne, Kirby, Monroe, and surprisingly her mother. Also Calla is a fake ass bitch for everything she did in this book. I'm so excited for the next book in the series and hope Valerie fucks Reid's ass up for having a fiancé. I will be going feral when the next book comes out, thanks :)

Full review to come
