Full disclosure: I'm reading the English translation, which doesn't appear to have a listing (yet?), and I don't feel like fussing to get it made.

My biggest regret is not starting a Goodreads account sooner, because as time passes, it looks more and more like the only way I can (fairly) review the books in the series I skipped reviewing is to *ugh* BUY THEM AGAIN, since 99% of every graphic novel I put into a free library is never seen (by me) again.

The other 1% are weird outliers, and I'm honestly confused, though if I keep cycling them around, SOMEBODY will take them eventually... even if it's to take them to sell to a used bookstore (which defeats the point of free libraries, but it's not like I can stop anyone from doing that).

Point is, while I like the series enough to read (and watch) once, I'm less excited about paying to RE-read it. I suppose I could always just stand there and read it in a bookstore* when I have some time, but 1. I hate doing that (and I'm sure the staff doesn't appreciate it, either), and 2. usually any time I get to a bookstore I like to avoid spending lots of time there, since the more time I spend tends to translate into the more money I spend. Also, even if I open up Goodreads on my phone and write a review in the store on their wi-fi, I never feel like I give the review the proper time it deserves, ESPECIALLY since I tend to go overboard with tagging shelves and digging up relevant links (which are a PAIN to do on a phone).

That said, this volume is pretty good, at least compared to the average book in the series. It's not five-star by far, but I like that Matthias is actually thinking—he finds a lead on the supervillain they're hunting through , and he's able to analyse his opponents' techniques and weaknesses on the fly. That's a little better than the "I'll just overpower them with my overpowered magic skills" he'd been using to date! (If he did this before, I don't remember. I do like how it's handled in this volume, though!)

I *don't* like the gratuitous huge-chested guild... attendant (how do I keep forgetting the name for the clerk who handles registration and payments and whatever, is it really just "clerk"?). Like, for one thing, she's such a minor character that she doesn't even get a name; therefore, giving her such eye-catching details like "BIG TITTIES" serves to distract from her minor role in a jarring way.

Also, this reaction just looks goofy as heck as a result:

big-chested clerk giving Matty a shocked look with cartoonishly huge eyes

So. On the whole, still Pretty Okay and Entertaining Enough to Keep Reading. Wouldn't buy again, especially now that I've reviewed it and won't HAVE to buy it again.

*for new books—in used bookstores, I tend to grab whatever, and unfortunately the manga sections there almost always have nothing I want, either to re-read or to start fresh

The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest Volume 16 ups the ante with a chilling mystery and a thrilling hunt! This volume masterfully blends the series' signature lighthearted humor with a genuinely creepy atmosphere. The return of resurrected killers from Matthias' past life injects a fresh dose of intrigue, and the hunt for the mastermind behind it all becomes a gripping narrative thread.

Matthias' relentless pursuit of knowledge takes him down unexpected paths, offering fascinating insights into the lore and magic system of the world. The camaraderie between Matthias and his party shines brighter than ever as they face these new challenges together. This volume also teases a potential romance between Kai and Cinder, which adds another layer of excitement for fans who enjoy that dynamic.

Volume 16 doesn't disappoint. The blend of humor, suspense, and action keeps you hooked from page one. The world-building continues to impress, and the cliffhanger ending leaves you desperate for more. This is a must-read for fans of the series and a fantastic entry point for newcomers who enjoy lighthearted fantasy with a touch of the macabre. It easily earns a well-deserved five-star rating.
