Time for Eternity by Susan Squires Vampire Paranormal Romance- Sept. 1st, 2009 4 ½ stars.
This book combines 2 of my favorite genres vampire and time travel. Susan Squires guides the reader through a complex story that is sure to capture the imagination.
Frankie is vampire hardened and alone. Cruelly abandoned after being turned a vampire, she had to learn to tame her blood thirst the hard way and she has never forgiven her maker the Duke, Henri Foucault. If she could find him she would kill the selfish bastard herself! By lucky circumstance she is given the chance to travel back in time and Frankie is determined to find her maker, Henri and kill him before he turns her into a vampire and avert her suffering. Frankie arrives in France during the French revolution but in the wrong place! As she desperately travels to find the Duke she sees herself just before her past self meets him and discovers why you shouldn’t meet yourself in time. Once she sees herself, her essence is absorbed into her innocent and naïve past persona. This wouldn’t be a problem except her younger self is mesmerized by the Duke and will not listen to the pleas and warnings her future self tries to warn her of.
This was an exciting book as I tried to figure out how this story could be resolved. I enjoyed the heroine’s journey. It was intriguing as Frankie discovers new depths to the Duke and we find the true reasons behind his actions. The heroine was extremely likeable and gutsy and I enjoyed how the author delicately balanced the time travel within the storyline. The future Frankie changed the past Frankie developing her into a stronger and more intriguing woman. One who transformed history for the better. Henri is: handsome, bold, and noble. He is also very lonely and needed Frankie’s light and belief in him to feel human after so many years alone. I particularly loved how the story reveals a different side of Henri and how he changes and grows even as Frankie does. Unlike some stories where I feel the time travel aspect is thrown in, this story needed the time travel for the true potential of both main characters to be realized. Rarely do you read such a large alteration in one character, much less 2. And for my part, this was the best part of the story. This is a novel that will certainly keep you intrigued and wanting to finish it that day to find out how it will end.

This is one of those books that delightfully surprised me. A strong female lead with a modern sensibility who has a chance to relive the past and confront the vampire who turned her. Witnessing the French Revolution and uncovering Henri’s secrets slowly turns our heroine's heart. What she believed to be true is merely the clever facade Henri portrayed. Henri is one of those characters who is complex and sneaks into your thoughts well beyond reading. I became fully captivated by Paris and Versailles and love returning to this story time and again.
I read book 3 1st 2 and then 1 I wish I'd read it I read book 3 1st 2 and then 1 I wish I had read it in order but I didn't I'm hoping she has more books because it was fantastic the whole series I'm hoping there's more to it I'm gonna look and see I'm hoping you guys wanna read this because it was fantastic easy read quick done fun Enjoy
The story was nice, Henri was my favorite character. However, the kindle edition had a lot of typos and, along with the writing style, it made it so difficult to me to read it!
Eternity Redone - Time Traveling Vampires - It Doesn't Get Better Than This
Vampire Frankie (Françoise) has spent two centuries reviling her maker, Henri for turning her into a monster even though it was an accident, and Frankie can hardly believe it's even possible when she is offered the opportunity to go back in time to change her past. Frankie has fantasized that scenario over and over and knows just what she'll do, she'll kill the vampire before he can steal her humanity. But things don't go quite as planned when Frankie travels back to tumultuous time of the French Revolution, Frankie violates the basic rule of time traveling to one's own past - don't meet up with your past self.
I am not a big fan of Squires' Companions, but I may just have to rethink that statement, because Time for Eternity was simply wonderful. Without getting into too spoilerish detail, the melding of Frankie's past and future selves was really interesting way to handle the journey to the past and so much better than having the bitter future Frankie in full control able to execute her 'perfect' plan. Instead, giving Frankie just enough influence to open naïve Françoise's eyes to what she had missed the first time round - but leaving Françoise with her pristine heart in the driver seat - is really what made the story work so well. I also liked the way that Henri ends up a great hero as he is revealed to be not the devilish villain Frankie remembers but instead a noble immortal trying to make his endless existence count for something. And to add the finishing touch, the excellent development of the attraction between the pair delivered a satisfying romance with heart as well as plenty of steam.
I really loved Time for Eternity and now I am hooked and will have to watch for the next pair to get a second chance at happiness in a A Twist In Time coming March 2010.
Review courtesy of Romance Junkies: Frankie Suchet has lived for over two centuries. She learned how to survive as a vampire when her maker abandoned her. It wasn't easy and as a result, Frankie has become a very bitter woman. For a long time, she has been envisioning various ways to get revenge. Suddenly, the answer to her problems comes walking through the door. Frankie is closing up the bar when another vampire walks in and orders a drink. The woman offers Frankie a second chance to go back and fix things, and she seizes the opportunity.
Frankie travels through time using a mysterious machine created by someone very famous. She ends up at the wrong destination, but easily gets where she needs to be. Something about the time travel causes Frankie to lose her memory and she becomes the person she once was, Francoise. Francoise is young and naive and knows nothing of Henri Foucalt, until he saves her from certain death. He is a knight in shining armor who tries his best to appear as the opposite, but Francoise has seen his true side. Henri is hiding something big and Francoise is determined to uncover his secret. Will it destroy them both or will it set them free?
I enjoyed every single moment of TIME FOR ETERNITY. I actually sat down and read TIME FOR ETERNITY straight through and I loved every bit of it. I have been a fan of Susan Squires for years and her paranormal romances are simply the best. I have not come across many writers who have the talent to create characters in such awesome detail. Ms. Squires' plots will keep you on edge and you will find yourself glued to each and every page. Ms. Squires is sure to draw in new fans with TIME FOR ETERNITY.
If you like your supernatural romances with a sci-fi twist (in this case, time travel), if you like historical romances, if you like well-written romances with steamy sex scenes here and there, you have found your author in Squires. This novel, published in 2009, is the first in a series that now has 3 volumes, with more to come (I hope). The characters are well-drawn and engaging, the plot is intriguing, the sex is integral to the story, the writing is excellent.
The supernatural element: vampires. The time-travel element in this series: via a device made by Leonardo da Vinci. The historical element in this particular novel: from modern-day California to the French Revolution, at the height of Robespierre's power. All three elements spoke to me and Squires made them mesh very nicely indeed.
I enjoyed this book overall. It was slow in the beginning and I was getting really tired of the French words she tossed in.
I like that she has a different take on vampires, but I'm not a huge fan of the Companion. It seems like a cop-out to blame your need for blood on a "parasite".
Only Susan Squires could take a historical romance, insert vampires and time travel and make it work.
Frankie travels through life, feeling abandoned and hardened by the one person who had turned her, Henry Foucault. If she could go back in time, she would kill him before he tainted her blood, before he gave her this desolate life of existence. Another vampire gives her the opportunity when she introduces a time machine to her and Frankie is set on going back in time and saving her lonely existence, by killing the one who had made her. But everything goes awry when she comes face to face with her younger self.
I tried to like this book. I really did! Everything I've read by this author I've not cared for. I've tried several times with different books because so many people rave about her books. But there is just something about her writing style that does not work for me at all. I can't pinpoint what it is, but it's there all the same. I had hoped that this one would be different since it was the first time I tried one of her paranormals but sorry, same result. I was bored, didn't care about the characters at all and it was a major chore to continue reading and not just giving it up and quit.
Enthralling! Susan Squires has created such an amazing take on vampires. Her characters are fresh and believable, and oh-so engaging. But I also love the time-traveling, and the way she has woven in bits of history -- an invention from Leonardo daVinci and visits to Versailles, for example. It was a delight to read from beginning to end.
If you like vampire and Time travel themes this book is a double bonus for you. Our heroine is a digruntled vampire who hates her maker since he abandoned her immediatly after the turn. Another vampire gives her the chance to go back in time and change things and she takes it. The second time around she learns things she didn't know before and she will change her future.
Great story that crosses over on 2 of the Series. First it is part of The Companion Series & it is part of The Time Travel Series. Each book brings a character from the other stories that helps with the flow. I liked this story line that wrong & misunderstood was fixed by going back in time & was given a 2nd chance & love was found. Best Series that Susan has written. The Companion Series.
Read it in 24 hours. Good book. Fun and inventive. Loved that time travel intertwined with a vampire storyline. Lot's of straight soft porn, if that's what your into.
Time travel vampire romance. R rated. Good development of female and male lead characters. Good development of conflicts: female's internal, between male and female, situation French Revolution.
Really liked the ending but was frustrated and generally irritated by Frankie who was a horrible bitter shell. Francoise on the other hand, was lovely.
