Autumn is time for the leaves to change colors. Get out your rake and help gather the fallen leaves. Find out why leaves change color. And take a running leap into that huge pile of leaves!
This book is great because it presents scientific facts behind the visible changes in leaves. In the summer, leaves are green from chlorophyll and sunlight. In the fall leaves change colors and eventually, "fall to the ground." I like that this book provides readers with actual scientific vocabulary. This is a great book to add to your personal collection!
This book was more educational than I expected. It explained why leaves have their colors and why they fall down for fall. On the same pages the book used to explain fall, dialogue in the pictures carried a storyline about a little boy who explores the leaves on a walk and ends up jumping in a leaf pile. The storyline was very simple, as was the explanation/science lesson. I want to say the book was meant for the preschool age range, however it does talk about chlorophyll, and doesn't exactly do the best job at defining the word, so I'm not exactly sure what the target age range is.
The text is simple, portraying a mother and son talking about why the leaves change color in the fall and what happens to them. It's maybe not an action packed book, but it presents the information accurately without getting too dry.
Here's a simple explanation for a few autumn questions your kids might ask. You'll learn why leaves fall and why they change color.
Ages: 4 - 8

Bullard,L.M.(2010)Leaves fall down: learning about autumn leaves. Minnesota: Picture Window Books
"Leaves Fall Down: Learning about Autumn Leaves" by Lisa Marie Bullard and illustrated by Nadine Takvorian is a great book for fall! This book goes through how leaves change colors and why they change during the fall season. It goes through the many processes of leaves using correct scientific words and is a great book for a science class! This book is definitely geared toward older ages in early childhood especially good for a science lab on seasons or even a science project. I really enjoyed this book and the illustrations were nice and colorful. The illustrator did a great job at depicting what leaves and trees with all the color changing really looks like in real life. If I was a science teacher or even teaching second graders about the changing seasons this is a great book to introduce to your class! At the end of the story it even shows instructions for an art project involving leaves that you can have your class do or at home. I thought that was creative and a great idea to add that at the end .
This is a perfect book to be read during Fall. This book teaches children using the scientific words, why leaves change colors and why. When I read this book I knew it was going to be helpful not only to teach about Science, but to teach many other things. The illustrations in this book are very colorful and gives the children the idea of how the trees look. The illustrations go along very well with the words on the pages. I feel like I can use this book in my future classroom for many things. I found some possessives and contractions, many times students mix these two up. I think this would be a good book to get some good examples of contractions and possessives and teach the students what they are used for in writing. When the students know what they are used for they are going to have the opportunity to use them in their own writing. This book also contains a lot of exclamation points.
This is a great book to read to students when discussing the different seasons. The book represents what may occur in the fall. It talks about the different seasonal changes, like the changes in the color of the leaves. The pictures help readers see the different colors of the leaves and understand what changes are taking place during Fall. I enjoyed this book a lot because my favorite season is fall, therefore I really liked being able to flip through the pages and experience the changes through a book.
This book was really short, but also to the point of why leaves fall in the winter. It had the basic facts of this annual occurrence, along with glossary terms in the back of the book. It also had an index. It told of the tale of a mom and her son going for a walk at the beginning of the fall and the boy learning from his mother why leaves fall from trees during this time.
Leaves Fall Down: Learning About Autumn Leaves Bullard, Lisa Marie kindergarten introduction to reading, early reader with single sentence per page. learning about leaves
Clear, concise language explains why leaves fall down during autumn. More picture-book than prose, but great for visual learners. Would recommend to inquisitive second graders.
This book would be perfect for when the lesson is about seasons. The book has many science vocabulary words. The book discusses why leaves change colors in the fall.
We learned a lot from this book! Did you know leaves have chlorophyll and it helps them to make food? When the chlorophyll dries up, the leaves die because they cannot make food. When they fall on the ground, they become food for other plants and trees in the spring time!
