An interesting attempt by Marvel at a Vertigo-style book. It never quite gets there in this volume, if anything it comes across as more like one of the more middle of the road entries than the Lucifer or Hellblazer it references and wants to appeal to the readerbase of. Worth a look for those interested in Marvel horror or just horror comics in general, but there are way better choices for Marvel or DC books that tackle similar subject matter.

Honest Trailers calls Marvel's work from this decade "the extreme 90's era of leather jackets and attitude." Having mostly read the ORIGINAL run of Spider-Man and X-Men, I thought this was just a throwaway line.

Good grief, was I wrong.

But it's not just leather jackets, tattoos, BARELY-concealed nudity, and, well, a half-demon protagonist. Here you will find the rape and murder of a little girl by her father, men dead in the arms of a succubus, sperm donation (don't ask,) and HEAVY religious themes that probably would have gotten this work banned from schools. Dang, Marvel-- I didn't know you had it in you.

The artwork goes from decent to ridiculous, and I'm not sure which artist to blame for which panels. I definitely have no problem with a Daimon who has long red hair and rocks a leather jacket and a big hat. But I wish the close-ups of his face weren't always demonic caricatures.

If you want extreme 90's grunge that makes The Crow look light and fluffy, have at it. But if you were looking for the original Daimon with goofy hair and red tights...keep looking.

I love the artwork in this one! It brings me right back to the "edgy" 90s. This comic had lots of high points, but the story in most issues doesn't pull you in consistently. I just love the feel of these comics and the spirit behind them. The baddies are just great and this series did more for the character than the classic Hellstrom "Son of Satan" series. However, I did enjoy Son of Satan Classic for the backstory. I look forward to reading Hellstorm: Son Of Satan - Equinox next, to close out my Hellstrom reading.

Some exceptional art and storytelling in this book. It barely connects the Deefender stories after Patsy and Damian get married, but it does give you a hint of what is happening to the both of them. This is way darker than Damian as a super-hero and he even makes fun of the outfit and his days as a super-hero.

I actually like this darker, horror tale for the Son of Satan as he battles for his own soul and that of others, although he is less kind in this series than he was in the others.

This book ends with his darksoul in more control than it even had been before.

Guess I'll have to read the rest of this series to see how it all plays out.

One of the most 90s comic books of all time, the son of Satan trying to do good. So much 90s edginess, perfect for Ghost Rider or DC's Vertigo fans

Shame the last issue is by far the best. The images of Hell are fantastic, and it ends on a total cliffhanger. Ahh well.
