A Sister’s Bond

Rate this book
Nothing is stronger than a sister's love

North London, November 1913. The storm clouds of war gather overhead, while one brave girl fights to save her family . . .

After her mother dies, Livvie Bone knows it's down to her to support her family and protect her younger siblings from their drunken father. But life in Wood Green in 1913 is hard and full of danger, and one night she needs protection herself. When the mysterious Joe Hunter steps in to help her, Livvie can't help but be drawn to him in spite of his unsavoury reputation.

Then Livvie is offered the chance to work at the Barratt's Sweet Factory. Suddenly she has a chance to better herself - and to offer her family a way out. Livvie's fragile beauty hides a formidable strength of character, and it doesn't take long for the factory manager, Lucas, to notice her. He is a man of the world, a sophisticated, compelling character and he can open doors to the kind of life Livvie has only dreamed of. But time is running out, for war is approaching, sweeping everything and everyone up in its remorseless path.

What will Livvie choose - and who will come back to her when the fighting ends?

I really enjoyed reading this book I felt that I was drawn into the story right from the beginning.
This book is set in the lead up and during the first year of the first world war and features a family set in London comprising of father and children. The eldest daughter is Olivia or Livvie and she is a strong female lead character and she managed to hold the family together with great difficulty. It is centred around the Barrett`s sweet factory and the area around Islington and a not very nice area called Campbell Bunk which is home to many villains. Livvie has two men who she cares about, who will she choose, a factory manager or an ex pimp? As the war continues to rage in France what will happen to Livvie and her siblings? This is the first book in the Bittersweet Legacy series and can't wait to read the next book in the series. Well worthy of five stars.

A lovely story of Olivia's love and care for her sisters and brother and of love and the coming war.Livvie has become care giver for her siblings following the death of their mother but their father is hard and cruel.Livvie wants to leave the family home and take her siblings with her but she needs to earn money to support them, when she starts working at the sweet factory one of the bosses takes a liking to her.I found it lovely that the Keiver family make an appearance in this book and that Livvie has friends to support her.I can highly recommend this book well worth 5*
