Shiroe left Akiba in search of 8,000,000,000,000 gold coins, setting off for the vast north lands. But, what he found there was a warning of a large scale raid about to occur.
In Akiba's unstable situation, Shiroe's chosen raid members include the galactic idol Tetora, the leader of Silver Sword who refused to take part in the round table council, Massachusetts, and the man he defeated in Susukino who still hates him, Demiquas.
Kudos to this book for two things: 1) understanding what makes Isaac Massachusetts the way he is and making his actions believable 2) an excellent Jonathan Livingston Seagull reference
I have to admit I struggled with this book at first. I loathe Neruha and so starting off with her just left me wanting to put the book down. We finally get to Shiro and things improve dramatically until we get to the raid.
Here's where personal history made me suffer. I've played a number of MMOs over the years... and I have never cared for the raiding aspect of ANY of them. Even the smaller 5-person dungeons were often more of a chore than they were worth. I always preferred the process of playing the game and the crafting (some games more than others certainly!) than getting to the end game content and spending countless hours searching for that bigger-badder piece of gear so I could move to the next rank of raid to seek another piece of gear. I spent many a useless hour wiping time and time again trying to figure it out and just getting frustrated and annoyed when I could have been out playing the game and enjoying myself.
SOOO... when Shiro and friends start experiencing the same issues (and they are typical when trying to learn a new raid/dungeon) it brought back a LOT of traumatic memories.
Fortunately for me, Touno-sensei was able to pull off a solid ending for me that made it worthwhile. It also helped that while I wasn't enjoying the aspects of the raid, the characters of Silver Sword and all were interesting and not just stand-ins. They felt like actual players and so that helped as well.
Verdict: My personal history with MMOs aside, this is a solid volume that helps bring the world of Log Horizon forward. Worth the read!
Another strong installment of an excellent series. Though this volume only featured a handful of my favorite characters, the narration made me care about everyone involved anyway. The series continues to feature emotional depth and astuteness in the most surprising places, packing a lot of characterization into relatively short scenes. Moreover, some of the twists in this volume in particular are quite rewarding. Highly recommended.
You Find out what Shiroe was doing during the previous volume. Shiroe was trying to solve the Money issues of the adventurers in Akiba. The resault is a long giant raid party fighting impossible enemies. There are personality clashes among the adventurers in the raid and a surprise plot twist. This is a bit better story than sword art online. Lots of issues with the day to day of living in a video game world are explored
This series is a comfort read for me. this volume includes the Kunie Clan story arc including the huge raid where Shiroe has teamed up with William Massachusetts and Silver Sword - also Tetora shows up! It was really good, but it did bog down a bit when they were getting into Demiquas' and William's perspectives on things, so 4 stars instead of 5.
it took me awhile to get through, but it was good. I appreciated the in depth dungeon/raid battle details, but find I personally enjoy character development driven volumes more. a solid addition to the series
I don't feel right rating these books as I read a (very well made) fan translated version. I really like some of the stories, the world seems really thought out, the characters get more fun and likable and as it moves forward the story doesn't lose my interest, I want to know how and why they got trapped in that alternative reality.
The only problem I have is that I don't see nowhere even close the end of the story of these books, I'm not that much of an avid reader of light novels so I don't know how long are usually these books but this fells like we are barely at the beginning. I'm not saying that's bad but I was hoping one of my first tries at these novels would have closure, now is going to be a few years before the western publisher caughts up and it probably is going to stop being translated by the helpful community. That sucks.
Well I hope you keep on finding great books and keep on reading.
