John R. Gribbin is a British science writer, an astrophysicist, and a visiting fellow in astronomy at the University of Sussex. His writings include quantum physics, human evolution, climate change, global warming, the origins of the universe, and biographies of famous scientists. He also writes science fiction.

كتاب جيد، ماتع في معظم أجزاءه.
لغة سلسة وطريقة عرض تعتمد على سير العلماء أنفسهم في القرون المحددة. ويقدم المعلومات والتفاصيل العلمية -دون الغوص فيها- بأبسط طريقة ممكنة، وإن لم تُفهم فيكفي فهم نتيجة تلك الإكتشافات أو التجارب في كيان العلم وتطوره.
سلبيته أنه -في مواضع قليلة- يسهب في تفاصيل حيوات جدود العلماء أنفسهم! ولكن هذا في النصف الأول من الكتاب فقط.
