Alice If you haven't seen the movie yet and don't want any spoilers, I suggest you don't read this now.
I thought the movie was really out of sync with the original story. I expected it to be different from the book,(movies always are, after all) but they changed/mixed up quite a lot of it! So many things were completely different(ending, Ethan finding the locket, Ethan meeting Macon etc.)that by the end of the movie I felt like I'd wasted my £5 ticket money. I think I might have enjoyed it had I not read the book, but if you are thinking of seeing this because you read the book and liked it be warned: It really is quite different from the book.

Diana ❀ ☺ Dosent the movie come out tomorrow??

Morgan Gibbons I had to pay £6 :/ Ye they royally screwed up.

Alice Diana ❀ ☺ wrote: "Dosent the movie come out tomorrow??"

Kal Books come first. I'm more concerned about the movie lessening the experience of the book than the book lessening the experience of the movie.

Leslie SPoILERS
Man just got home from watching the movie... I agree with Alice, I wonder how much I would have liked it if I hadn't read the book because honestly I was so excited for the movie and wow am I disappointed. Forget about all the little details they could have easily added in ie Ridley and a lollipop (how hard would that have been to put in there) and forget about changing the order of some stuff in the book... Let's talk about the curse! You can't completely change that then make Ethan forget about Lena!! AHhhhhhhhhhhh! You make a movie out of a book because a. It's a good story and b. people like this story and want to see a movie. Some things don't translate we'll from page to film, I get that but you shouldnt change such a huge part of the story! People love seeing a world that they can only imagine in their heads so when you put it on screen it's a big deal! I don't want to be too harsh maybe I was expecting too much, I will watch it again to make sure I wasn't just being nitpicky...but I'm sure I will have the same reaction. Here is me being nitpicky... Whatt about boo radley? Or the song it was one of my favorite parts of the book! Or the party/concert, the dance, any basketball, the KELTING! Eathans mom helping out or the mention of an incubus?

message 9: by Bubba (new) - added it

Bubba Mannel OMG!!! I CAN"T AGREE WITH YOU MORE Leslie...there is so much stuff that they left out...it is not you being nit-picky at all dont waste your money and time to see it again if it was disappointing the first time it is still gonna be disappointing the second time, i mean i know all the books like the back of my hand!!

Griszll I read the books a while ago and from the beginning I didn't want to see it...I mean, just by watching the trailer I knew it changed a lot...Now i absolutely don't want to see it, it just makes me sad that they ruined the movie so badly :(

message 11: by Bubba (new) - added it

Bubba Mannel Yes that they did do...

Jacquelyn They don't have Kelting?? That's huuuugee!!! I even expected the Shadowing Song not to be there but his mom isn't there at all? Or Incubuses? I haven't seen the movie yet but I'm already concerned. And I was concerned when I didn't see Lena's necklace, couldn't really tell if her eyes were green or not, and that her hair was brown; that Ridley was wearing some weird lacey gown not her mini skirts and tank tops and that she didn't seem to have her lollypops or platinum blonde and pink hair. But seriously?? Ooooh, I have a feeling I'm not going to be happy as a book fan. I think I'll probably be pretty satisfied as a movie goer, though.

message 13: by Bubba (new) - added it

Bubba Mannel You wont be happy...Lena has her necklace, no shadowing song, no Aunt Marian, no dad, it was a complete waste, if you want to know more send me a message, i dont wanna ruin it for those who haven't seen it...

D': No Aunt Marian... What cold world is this? I'll have a more educated review after Saturday, thank you!

message 15: by Bubba (new) - added it

Bubba Mannel Your welcome,

Angela(demonsangel) Fitzgerald I assumed it was so different because they put all five books into the movie. I'm now guessing its still completely different.

Angela(demonsangel) Fitzgerald I assumed it was different from the book because they used all five books into making the movie. I'm now guessing that even if all five books was added that the movie is nothing like any of the books.

Bubba Mannel I dont know how many of the books they used but the movie is just wrong...i have never been so disappointed, none of the characters match the description in the book, they leave out a lot of important details, they screwed up the whole story line, if you read the books and go see the movie, be ready for a huge let down...

Michael Moore I just got out of the movie as well, and I don't know how I feel about it. I want to like it, but something is just nagging at me. Why did they have to change so much stuff? Hopefully the movie will get a sequel, and include kelting, boo & lucille, and more of Gatlin. Luckily, I had a free movie ticket to see this one. I have come to expect that books are always better than the movie.

Michael Moore Morgan, good review.I felt the same way about the movie.

Kailey BAD MOVIE

message 25: by Bubba (new) - added it

Bubba Mannel Thank You!! Finally some one who agrees with me!!!

message 26: by Bubba (new) - added it

Bubba Mannel It has to be the only one...they pretty much took what they wanted from different parts of all the books and threw it together...the whole series is about her being claimed...they left out to many details, and too much of the story line, i hope they don't make another one...this one is bad enough...Please DO NOT MAKE ANY MORE...

Cassie C I totally agree!!! I thought I was going to be the only one who thought this, but I felt they left way too much out for another movie to be made. They changed too much, and I left the movie so unbelievably disappointed. Suffice to say, if they make another one, I will definitely not go see it :(

message 28: by Bubba (new) - added it

Bubba Mannel they cant there is nothing more they can go off of, all the books are based on her claiming, and them trying to break the curse of Lena's claiming...i mean they have to totally due a prequal, or something like that,

Marla There are so many things that are wrong with the movie that I can hardly even begin. I always go into a movie based on a book prepared to be let down, but this was just crazy. I have begun to wonder if the screenwriters are even READING the books they are basing the movies on! They altered and left out so much that I had started a list in my head....gave up once it had surpassed 30 things. Suffice it to say, I was extremely disappointed. =(

message 30: by Ivan (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ivan Am I the only one who liked the movie? I thought it was good. It did bother me with the changes they made in some scenes and the plot-line, but I think they did it so the movie would be only 1 film and not make sequels. I just can't see how the film could move forward. I did enjoy it though, very entertaining.

Leslie They have the cast signed on for three movies...

Sky Rose Reviews The book sucked so as far as I am concerned the movie can only be an improvement but then again I have been wrong about that before *shrug*

Oh no... really? That's so disappointing. I've only read the first book so when I read the others, this is going to spoil it!

Seriously? Because one movie started off wrong does not mean the rest can't improve and be great? We can all long for that perfect book to movie adaption, but if you all thought it would be remotely close to perfect like the book, you were doomed to be dissappointed. That book is a hard adaption..a damn hard adaption to accomplish. I thought they did a good job-if they made it like all you wanted, that literally closes off all other markets and create a niche market for only us readers, and that would have doomed the series for further development of other movies anyway. Move on from this movie, and hope for the best of the (hopefully) future movies. And I am willing to bet if the movie does get made in the future, most of you will be front and center whether you believe it now or not. Sorry, but I just can't believe no one would want to see what they can do in the future. I'm just glad the series was liked well enough it got a nod and turned into a movie.

Marla @ Chelsea....I think we can agree to disagree here. A niche market? Ok, let's back up and evaluate this statement. "Harry Potter" is a classic example of how a movie was created based on books that had a tremendous following which continued to grow after the movie was released. Were there changes? Sure...however, what was done correctly was that J.K Rowling maintained her rights over her manuscript. One would expect there to be some changes due to time constraints, filming issues, flow within the story line, etc. When they make large alterations leaving out key elements and characters pivotal to the story line in later books, they have made it difficult to say the least. The production companies are trying to tap into a very lucrative market, that being the YA market. The book was given a nod because it was a huge seller and very popular in the YA market, as are the books that have also been turned into movies as of late. I think the largest problem is that they are attempting to keep a constant flow of these exceedingly popular book titles in the movie theaters, and in order to accomplish this they rush through the entire process. Let me also state that the book never would have made it onto their radar if it hadn't been for the number of people who READ the books!

Chelsea ✨Arielle’s Nebular Ally and Team Acrux✨ And it's great you feel that way- I was simply stating that this was a hard book to make a movie about and that they are also trying to make it for people who don't read it. I understand people wanted it not to change so much..and I agree that sucks. I just want people to realize the kelting and such was hard to replicate in movie form. And yes-niche, meaning the readers. It doesn't matter, I just wanted to say it can't be exactly the same. That is all.

Tramaine Gillus Oh. My. God. That movie was terrible. Yes, it was a very poor book-to-film adaptation. BUT, apart from it being a terrible adaptation, it was terrible movie. Even if I hadn't read the book, I would have thought that the movie was terrible. I was counting down the minutes to get the heck out of the movie theater.

Alice I hope they don't make Beautiful Darkness into a movie :S

message 39: by Kam (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kam Brooksmoore I, personally, think the movie was very good. Yes, they did leave out A LOT of stuff that were important to the book, but you have to think of this: the authors were there for most of the time and saw what they were doing. They also said they read the script...and liked it. I don't think everyone should get super upset because there was a bad book-to-movie adaption. If I hadn't read the book, I still would have LOVED it. More than I do right now, because I agree with most of you guys. The ending to the film was totally askew from what the book was and missed the build up. But it was still pretty good. The effects were amazing. The actors/actresses really captured their characters. The southern accents were correct. They got the setting correct. The directors/producers/writers were pretty much spot-on except for the ending. I suggest, don't hate on the movie JUST because the ending was wrong, or one part of the story was left out, or one part was earlier than it should've been. Be glad the book was made into a movie. That is a HUGE DEAL! And I believe that the entire series is being picked up for movies. Because it was good. So there you go. No need to hate on the movie just because they left out a few things and changed a part of the story. I hope you guys take my advice to heart.

Kam Brooksmoore True that Juliana, true that...

Temple Rose Im curious to see the movie I was suprised when they said they were makin it. I read the other books in the series cos of it. I planned to give up afta the first bt then they announced they were makin a film and i wanted to no what played out afta the first book.

Temple Rose Liz wrote: "I keep seeing a lot of people say how many books they smashed into this movie, only one. The screenwriter Richard only read the first book, not the second or the third. However, he might find himse..."

Totaly agree. I havent seen the movie yet but when I do ill be back with my view of things. For me as long as the movies interesting and the plot fully there I wont complain.

Temple Rose Another thing that I wont to no about more than how thw film plays out. Is the actors who play Lena and Ethan neva heard or
seen them before can they act do they do the main charachers justice?

★ Mist ☆ Cassidy ★ I hadn't read the book since it came out and I couldn't remember anything that happened, except for the basics. (I am re-reading it now, though).

I think I might be one of the few people who read the book and ejoyed it, but I loved it. The movie was well written, directed, and produced. The actors were amazing for their roles. It has a lot more humor than the book has - some of the lines were priceless.

(view spoiler)

The only thing that really bugged me is that the writer didn't read at least the second book as well just to see what he had to translate the first one into. I liked the forgetting part, though it didn't happen that way, but Beautiful Chaos is ruined because they changed the way Macon died and Beautiful Darkness is going to be changed because of the way Ethan and Lena's relationship is at the end. Though I do love that he remembers her at the end! :3
Overall, I enjoyed the movie a lot more than I expected, however I think the screenwriter should have done more research because he's put himself into a hole by making some of the changes he made.

Jacquelyn Mae wrote: "they did an awesome movie. it was different from the book but it was entertaining and funny. the main guy was WAY to old to play ethan though but other than that it was really good"

Yeah I thought it was interesting that they made them juniors not sophomores. That was probably to appeal to an older audience.

Rachel Jacquelyn wrote: "Mae wrote: "they did an awesome movie. it was different from the book but it was entertaining and funny. the main guy was WAY to old to play ethan though but other than that it was really good"

I don't think they could've passed as sophomores!

I totally agree with you. All of the things you mentioned are the major problems that will cause even more problems for future movies. Plus, all of those things are important parts of the story! I wanted to like this movie so badly, but it was just way too different, and I couldn't get into it :(
