Approximately how long does one book take you to write? Maybe using "Hopeless" as an example. And do you write straight-through and the go back and edit later?
I think your writing is absolutely amazing! Are there plans for a follow up book to Hopeless?
Any plans to write a Contemporary Adult novel?? As a mommy reader I like NA but would love an adult novel from ya!
Where do you draw inspiration for your characters from? And do you find it harder to write from the guy's point of view, like Will in Point of Retreat, or the girl's, like in Hopeless and Slammed?

I love all of your books, and your writing is amazing. How do you come up with the ideas for your stories? Is it hard to mix seriousness in with lighter moments? I only ask because you seem to do it so effortlessly. :)

I am curious where the inspiration for Holder came from. Is he totally and completely a fictional ideal, or are any qualities based off a man/different men from your personal experiences?
He is one of my very favorite 'book boyfriends,' so I'd love to hear how his personality & qualities came about. Oh, how I bet we all wish he was real and - version of him was in each of our lives... :)

I hear you're going to do a version from Holder's POV. This is exciting to say the least, but do you think it will be difficult to truly immerse yourself into this world when you've already written the entire story from Sky's point?

Colleen, Hopeless was such an amazing story. I cried, laughed, fell in love (Holder is remarkable)...so many different emotions were brought up while reading the book. Was it draining to write something so emotional? How do you prepare yourself? Thank you for the excellent story you've told and what is to come through Holder's POV. I cannot wait.
Hi Colleen, I love your books, they are so beautiful! And I think I'm in love with Will. :)I didn't know about slam before reading your book. Can you tell us how did you discover slam and why did you put this in your book?
There are so many heavy topics in your books, how can you write this without being overwhelmed by emotions. Because I was devastasted while reading Slammed or Hopeless.
Will you come in Europe? I'm French so I'd love to meet you in Paris, or I can travel in London :)

Thank you for doing the Q & A! I would like to say I absolutely adore your writing style. You have this way of pulling the reader in and making them feel every emotion possible. When writing do you start with an outline or do you free write?

Hello Colleen!! All of your books are phenomenal and you get your readers emotional attached to your characters. Thank you for that, so here's my question: Was it difficult channeling the mind of child that was sexually abused? That part of the story must have been tough.

I enjoyed reading all your books and every time I hear the word Butterfly it makes me smile, I have use it myself, comes in great when children are close by!!!
I was just wondering Where do you ideas come from and at what point do you think 'yes I could go somewhere with this one'
Also some of the covers to books out there are not that great! , and I find myself saying do I want to read this, but I normally do as the saying goes ' never judge a book by it cover' Your covers are great and alway fit with the story, how do you choose them?

Thank you for writing! I have read Slammed, Point Of Retreat and Hopeless. I love them all. I have one question.What kind of research do you conduct before, or while, writing your books?

I honestly don't know that anything inspired it. I just came up with the idea for the character of HOLDER first and the rest followed into place. As far as plans for my next books, I'm releasing LOSING HOPE and THIS GIRL, which are sort of companion novels for SLAMMED and HOPELESS. I had a lot of requests from fans who wanted to know what the guys were thinking, so I wrote them as a thank you.
And of course I have ideas in my head constantly, so after these two are released, I'm hoping to get busy writing another standalone.

HOPELESS took so long because I had a lot of trouble figuring out Holder's character, so I'd get frustrated and put it aside for several weeks. As far as editing, I edit heavily as I write. I find it difficult to move on to a new scene if I'm not satisfied with the previous scene.

And to clarify, 30 days doesn't sound like a lot, but I wrote for 12 hours a day, sometimes more. So if you spread that out, it's a lot of hours spent.

I don't really want to go too far into the future with Holder and Sky because that would mean there would have to be more drama to fill a book. I want them to have as little drama as possible, so right now I don't have plans for anything.

I don't know how I come up with the ideas. I can't follow outlines, so I tend to write from scene to scene. Most of the time I don't even know what's next. And going from dark to light is a necessity, because I need the switch-up for my own sanity. I would get too depressed if there weren't a few funny moments to lighten the mood.

Holder was sooooo hard for me to write. I knew how I wanted his character to be, but I was writing the book from Sky's point of view, so she wasn't supposed to know how him accurately. So writing the first half of the book when he was keeping so many secrets from her was hard because I wanted him to come off as appealing to the reader, but not so appealing to Sky in certain areas. I actually put this book aside and couldn't write it for two solid months because I found it so hard to figure Holder out. He wasn't based off anyone in real life, but I hope to hell he exists. <3
Hi Colleen,I just read everyone else's questions and your answers about Holder. Since he was so hard to write the first time from Sky's POV, how is writing from his POV coming? Is it harder or easier?
BTW I'm SO excited to read Hopeless from his POV. While I was reading it I was thinking how amazing it would be to read it from Holder's side and was thrilled to find out you were going to write it that way. :-D
