Teen chic lit--a fun, quick read. Light romance. A teenage tennis star wants out. She is sick of all the glitz, glamour, and pressure. She wants to have a real, normal life. So she flees to a small town in Alaska to hide from the paparazzi. There she discovers friendship, love, healing, and decides who she really wants to be. I think the author's writing style works very well for her subject matter. I also like the voice of the main character. Her life is incredibly charmed, but hey, it's fictio More...

It was okay. Very simple style because it's very relaxing. Heck, it's about a teenager who needed an overdue break from the pressures and expectations placed upon her from an early age. She recovers, but the reality of the world she came from still lurks in the background, so to speak. It's very coming-of-age in terms of self-discovery - her decision to leave is supported by her mother, aunt, lawyer, bodyguard, and agent. She creates and lives a new identity and a bunch of cute episodes happen t More...

What I liked about this book was that it was about a famous, but normal, teen who wants a change in her life. First her mom and her assistants escort her out of a game that she doesn't want to play. Then she gets a make over in her hotel and her mom sends her off to Medicine Hat, Alaska. There she is to live with her mom's close friend named Ava. They live in a cabin together for about 6 or 7 months. During those months Grace finds a boy named ,Teague, who she finds a romantic interest in. Grace More...

"Amazing Grace" by Megan Shull was a fantastic book. It's about a fifteen year old girl who is already competing in the US Tennis Open and is the best tennis player her age in the whole world. However, she hates all of the media and press that comes along with this position so she runs away and stays in the middle of no where with her aunt. I really liked this book because even though the story line was very far fetched and unbelievable, the author made you believe everything you were reading. G More...

Amazing Grace, Grace "Ace" Kincaid is a teen tennis sensation. She is swarmed by paparazzi, and has a dream life. But she wants out. She wants to quit. So she needs to hide, in the secluded Alaska. She learns about life, has fun for once, and maybe finds that special someone.

This book was very good, but interesting in some ways.
No chapters. Would they be called sections? There could be four sections over two pages or 1 over 3 pages. It varies. It is interesting and enjoyable. It is very clever More...

Well, I liked this book. And that's it.
I couldn't stop reading it, I liked the characters, I liked that it wasn't slow. The bad things were, there really wasn't a conflict. No real tragedy. Even though I read a lot of books and say to myself, this problem is too sad, you don't want to read this: I actually do. The conflict makes it interesting. Now, you can say that Grace was trying to hide from the paparazzi, but that was solved so easily, without a hitch. Oh yeah,(I'm not spoiling anything he More...

Ages 11+ (kiss romance, a drunken escapade with consequences, one "shit")

Fifteen year old tennis star Grace "Ace" Kincaid is giving UP! She's quitting the sport, giving up her multi-million dollar endorsement deals, and going into hiding (complete with name change to Emily O'Brien) in tiny little Medicine Hat, Alaska. The wilderness is actually super refreshing, although using an outhouse is NOT. Added bonus: she is rescued from a DANGEROUS MOOSE by sexy Eskimo Teague Denali. Booklong flirtatio More...

The story of Grace "Ace" Kincaid is an interesting one. I wish this book had given me more of it. I enjoyed the whirlwind of her retirement and the joy of first love. I would have loved another 150 pages. Megan Shull created a great chick-lit story, don't get me wrong. But, I'm afraid that's all it is. A good read for a car ride or the beach. Not just because of length, but the story/writing itself is very simple.
My favorite thing about this book was Shull's description of how Grace felt before More...

Very cute, *very* light. I'd like to know more about the supporting characters, but the main character was fine.

I adore this book! As a human being, Grace is a very relatable character. To me, she's had enough of the life and career that she was once passionate about, but now sucks the life out of her. Don't we all experience that at one point or another? Even if we're not tennis celebrities, I feel like Grace's escape to Alaska to start life anew is inspiring. On top of that, I'm inspired to go spend time in Alaska because of this book.
All in all, a wonderful read for young adults and for the perma-young More...

Teen tennis extraudinare Grace "Ace" Kincade has the life that every teenagager would want, fame, riches, a world-wide celebrity at only sixteen. But when the pressure becomes too much, Grace flees to a miniscule, isolated town in Alaska. There, with the help of new friends, and the wide open spaces of the wilderness, Grace finally begins to grieve, love, laugh and live, for the first time in a very long time.
A short, poignant book that made me think, any teens who like this style will be encha More...

INTRO;;

With the Australian Open currently filling our local news and radio broadcasts, I decided to finally crack the spine of Amazing Grace. A fast-paced sport orientated novel for those of us who know what it's like to simply need a break from your life at times. Ultimately, I feel I should have paid more attention to the 99 cent sticker on the cover of this novel as it turned out to be a really good indicator of the quality-level.

Amazing Grace by Megan Shull is the story of a teenage tennis whiz/model/endorsement celebrity who wants to get off the roller coaster that her life has become and live the life of a normal 15-year-old. So her mom arranges for her to be whisked off to a remote island in Alaska to live with a friend under an assumed name for a few months until she can decide how she wants to continue.

I read it for a mother-daughter book club meeting, and while no one in our group particularly liked the book, we d More...

Grace (or "Ace," as she is often called) Kincaid is a teen tennis star, who has also started modeling. Almost overnight, things have gotten crazy for her - she's had to watch her diet and change her lifestyle to accommodate for her fame. One day, she realizes that this is not the life she's wanted, and calls her mother from the US Open and says the three words that would end it all if she wanted: "I want out."

In a matter of hours, her mother is at her side. Grace is transformed into Emily O'Brie More...

This book didn't even make it to my "currently-reading" shelf! I couldn't get enough of the book. I think part of the charm is the writing style Shull uses. The book is split into parts; within the parts is a flowing story with bold words as pseudo-chapters only sightly braking the pace of the story. She also uses fragments, run-ons, and irregular spelling or compounding of words to give Grace, the main character, voice. Good, fun read. Girls especially will love it.

Grace Kincaid, teen tennis star, is tired of living in the spotlight - the paparazzi, the endorsements, the modeling. She wants out. She calls her mom, who makes arrangements for her to stay with "Aunt" Ava, in a remote location in Alaska. Grace comes to love the simple existence of no hot water, splitting firewood, and getting around on a snowmobile. And there's this boy...

When I started this book I was a bit worried because I had never read a book that didn't have some sort of 'not real' theme lol I know...pathetic...but once I started reading, I couldn't stop! Grace Kincaid was portrayed so amazingly and so was her & Teague's relationship/love story....I could picture everything and It made me crave the book so badly! well maybe I was craving Teague...Either way! this was an amazing easy read :)

Grace "Ace" Kincaid is a teen tennis sensation with multimillion dollar endorsements and her own cosmetics line. But one phone call and 3 words "I want out." and she has a makeunder and now she is staying with Aunt Ava in Medicine Hat, Alaska, population 811. She has a shot at a normal life, and she meets Teague, a gorgeous hunk, and Fisher, her new best friend. But how long can the pretense last before the press finds her?

Grace is the hot tennis player of the moment and is sick of the spotlight, so she ends up living in Medicine Hat, Alaska to experience a normal life. The writing is a little more non-traditional and written for a teenager. There is a party scene with drinking, but it is dealt with in a realistic manner. I didn't really enjoy this book but I have to read a lot of different books to recommend for my students.

This is totally unrealistic but fun to read any way. The regular teen valley girl talk is cute but a kid that has been in the limelight would really talk like an adult all the time. The kids in Alaska would be onto her right away. There is a little romance, a little mystery and a bit of the prince and the pauper life experience. Grace is likeable. A good book for a 5th or 6th grade girl.

I've read this book countless times, and I fall in love with it every time. It is definitely not for everybody, for the story line is not complex neither is the writing style heavy. It is simply a light read to escape the reality of one's world. I enjoyed this book because it was sweet and simple in it's own way. I'll never get tired of it because it's a simple pleasure in rough times.

This book was sweet at best. I didn't dislike it but it wasn't anything "amazing." A teen tennis superstar goes into hiding in Alaska because she wants a normal life; she experiences boys (the sweet, boyfriend type, and the not so sweet, jerk type), alchol, chores, friends...basically the life she never had but always wanted (insert sugary smile). It wassn't bad- just a litte boring.

Apparently when you're moving to Angola in 48 hours, anything will satisfy you. found this on my in-laws shelf and blew through it this morning while I couldn't sleep. Light and airy, cute, with a terrible young teen voice and what I felt was an underdeveloped plot line. But it certainly isn't going to hurt anyone to read it, and it does have a pleasant unoffensive romance.

Perfect G-rated teen romance, about a tennis mega-star who can't take the spotlight anymore, changes her identity and moves to Alaska, where she discovers how it feels to live like a normal teenage girl, with no bodyguard or 5-star hotels. Grace (aka "Emily") makes friends, breaks some rules, and finds a seriously crush-worthy boy. Light and fun from start to finish.

I didn't actually read this, but my 12-year old daughter tried to and told me about it. It just doesn't fit in with our values. She made it about a third of the way through before stopping for inappropriate content. Finding uplifting books to read is a challenge for all ages, but I think it is especially difficult for teenagers.

This book is my guilty pleasure It's not the type of book I usually read, as it's teen chick lit, but it's one that I pick up every few months anyways. For the genre of book, it's a really nice read. It's fairly clean...a little bit of underage drinking, a couple swear words, but nothing too bad. It's light and fluffy, and easy to read.
