Firstly I need to get out there how amazing this book truly was. I loved the atmosphere and the growing relationship between characters. Description: Cassie finally fits into the coven, being seen as one of their own. She begins to realise being apart of the coven isn't all great as it turns out to be. Meanwhile, Faye is in a position to choose which side she is on, this ultimately developing the end results on whether the coven will be able to survive against the evil befalling in New Salem. When the first book left me wanting more I was glad to see that this one was as fastpassed and interesting. The story is beautiful and with a lot of action. I would like a little bit more witch fights, calling on the elements and stuff, a little bit more active magic and not so much of herbs and crystals. The ending was good but not so much fulfilling, it didn't left me wanting more or being extremely full, it just left me...

The story really picks up in the Captive Pt. 2 and The Power. While I was annoyed with how mousy Cassie was in the last two books, it was really nice to see her grow and become more confident in these ones. Still, the cheesyness of Diana’s character and blandness of Adam’s annoys me to no end. I seriously wanted Cassie to end up with Nick because he had more depth to him. And then the ending made me cringe. It’s not that I don’t enjoy a happy ending, but if the character does get a happy ending,...more

Hey Guys,
This week I'll be reviewing The Secret Circle: The Captive Part 2 and The Power by L.J. Smith. This is an omnibus of the books that were written in the 90's. This is a story about a coven of witches and their adventures. This book contains the second half of the second book and the entire third book. Here is the synopsis from the back of the book:

CAUGHT IN THE STRUGGLE BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL...
Cassie has joined the most alluring-and deadly-in-crowd imaginable. But po...more

Everyone I knew was talking about this book series and how great it was, it was all over the internet and there were a lot of positive reviews written about it in the local library so I wondered what the big fuss was and picked them up. And now I am hooked.

Once I started reading the first one I couldn't put that one down and read through the night finishing at 5 am. But it was worth it.So then I couldn't wait to read the second one and picked it up as soon as I can.

I went straight onto this one when I finished the first book.
Cassie is now part of The Circle but things are getting more dangerous. The Captive is actually my favourite out of the series, things seem to move forward more, the characters develop and the plot is better paced. The story is still predictable, but there is enough magic and intrigue to keep you wanting to read.
The Power is a great conclusion to the book and leaves you with a satisfying ending.

The conclusion to the series. Kind of had different thoughts about both books. So 'The Captive: Part 2"....more continuation of the doubtful, "am I worthy to be part of the group" crap from Cassie. She's still under the influence of Faye and that part of the storyline annoys me. But, there is more revealed about Black John and that whole story so the plot is still getting moved forward. I give this part 3 stars. 'The Power' was actually the better of the three, I think....mo...more

I have to say that I did enjoy this book. However, I couldn't help seeing the ending coming from miles away!
Relatively good narrative, good plot and not too far-fetched. It was captivating and overall enthralling, much to my surprise. I should add that I see much potential for a TV series in this book.

The (almost) only thing that I seriously disliked was the ending! Besides being too predictable, it was way too brisk - 5 pages out of 111 and then BAM - end of story. I wish we h...more

the secret circle was the the only book that just focused on witches and not vampires wich made it differnt to other books. even the night world wich has witches in as well didn't just focus on them it had vampire and shapeshifters in it. I love the secret circle I love the idea that its like a forbidden love and trying to fight your feelings for each other. the characters all stood out in there own way the nice girl diana and then the bad girl faye gave a varation to the characters.also there w...more

I absolutely loved this series! It was a great follow through to the first volume. L.J. Smith has wonderful character development and gives the reader plenty of twists and surprises. I love that we get to see more of Nick in this volume. Also, Cassie's character really grows up and takes the lead as a heroine.

The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars was because of the ending. I loved how everything was solved, and I felt closure, but I had a problem with how she handled one particular ...more

I must say that this book drew me in from the start. I didn't enjoy part one and two that much but I was absolutely hooked on part 4 and 5! Cassie is such a strong character. She learns more about herself and the coven she has joined in such interesting ways. For some reason I found it funny that Faye's nail varnish changed according to how good or bad she is. I kept seeing an email of a girl taking time to change her nail colour - such an unimportant thing to be doing really!

Meanwhile, students are being murdered, and the witches are under suspicion. And Faye wants from Cassie the ultimate betrayal: her vote for Faye as coven leader.

Really 2 books in 1, or more accurately 1 and 1/4 book, this thrilling conclusion-filled with a quite of few twists ands turns, and OMG! moments- to The Secret Circle trilogy, (now a two parter, thanks to the publisher splitting the second book between the first and third),this story really came down to a battle not only with a powerful, evil entity, but with the powerful metaphorical themes and inner turmoil, and social acceptance at the core of the story and characters' lives. Wonderfully writ...more

This series (originally three books but now combined into two and re-released) is about a group of teenage witches. It's kind of hard to describe without spoiling anything but it's a really fun set of books.

The Captive Part II

Cassie has to make an impossible decision to choose either Diana or Faye. If Cassie chose’s Diana things will be how they are now, nothing will change. If Cassie chose’s Faye it will be for all the wrong reasons. If Cassie doesn’t choose Faye then, Faye will tell Diana what Cassie and Adam did behind Diana’s back, but that can‘t happen because it would crush Diana. Cassie decision could affect the lives of everyone in the circle.

The reason why I found it important to review the series as a whole is because the books appear to introduce an uninterrupted story, which is something that is rarely done successfully these days. May I remind you of various authors who enjoy over-explaining what has happened in previous installments? We all have authors in mind who do this, but I will not put anyone up for judgment here. Much like my previous review, the format I will use will be separating the good and bad things about this co...more

Overall I liked it, but I found it hard to like any of the characters aside from Nick. He was the only one that held my interest from beginning to end. I did manage to warm up to Diana and a few other characters, but Cassie bugged me ever since book one and continued to bug me throughout "The Captive, Part 2." She managed to redeem herself in "The Power" since she wasnt running around acting all secretive and lying to everybody anymore. I was upset over how the love story pla...more

Caught in the struggle between good and evil . . .

Cassie has joined the most alluring—and deadly—in-crowd imaginable. But power comes with a price, and it's more dangerous than she knows. Torn between the dueling desires of the two leaders of the Secret Grcle, she must ultimately choose between saving all of New Salem, and her own dangerous love for the bewitching Adam, which threatens to tear the circle apart. In these volumes of the story Cassie convinces the group to talk to their elders and find out what's really going on. Comes up with a plan and learns to stand up for herself/take charge. Most of the story is very different from the show but you can kind of see where things came from.

I do think that Smith's characters are just too black and white. Everyone comes across as all the way good or all the way bad. Even those from the group that appear to be "bad" come off mo...more

Brilliant conclusion to this series!~ At the beginning I was skeptical to some of the circle members, but now I ended up loving all 12 of them and the book!

Q about the TV adaption:
-Why CW named a member that wasn't even in the book at the first place -meaning Melissa that hooked up with Nick in the series??? Like what? I get they have to change the plot so it will spin into a longer story and shortened the number of circle member (12 to 6) but somehow it doesn't make any sense...more

I admit I was sceptical before I read this book; I love the vampire diaries series and was not convinced that this series would compare, but I might just go as far as to say that this may be better!

When I started reading it I couldn’t put it down, the story moves along quickly, the characters are well developed and varied.
The series is aimed at teens, I am not a teen (I’m in my 30's) and I loved it!

The books are very addictive; -I read both in 2 days. My only disa...more

I really loved this series. I think it might be my favorite by L.j. Smith thus far. I thought that the ending was a bit abrupt, but that it didn't take away from my overall joy with the series. There were a few things that I thought were rushed, and made to seem to easy (spell wise) with black john, but hey, that happens sometimes. Overall I really like the characters and the setting. As well as the overall feeling of unity. It was really quite beautiful. I think that if you are a fan of L.J. yo...more

I really liked this serise...I can't believe its the end. I wish L.j. Smith would write a sequel too it. The only part I didn't like aboutb it was the ending of the power... Its kinda like a cliff hanger but you know that there is nothing else too it...where is Adam and Cassie's relationship gonna go? Where is this gonna leave Diana and Nick in the relationship area? I have a lot of questioning thoughts about it. I actually wanted Adam and Diana to stay together and Nick and Cassie to stay toget...more

This is just like the first book in the series and definitely not worth anyones time. If you have to read it then check it out from a library. Has potential which is why I think they made a t.v. series out of it because you can do a lot with it. They use pretty much the names and an evil witch line from the book but that is it. The soul mate connection is there as well but they try too hard to make it more 'adult' and add a ton of sex which is not needed. The book is bland and has no depth. Pret...more

I love all of L.J. Smith's works (Night World, The Vampire Diaries and The Forbidden Game, and I also liked Dark Visions) but this series was a downer for me. I'm going to be honest here and say that I haven't read this from cover to cover. I read some of the start and a handful of the last chapters. I really didn't feel like reading the whole thing. Maybe some other time...

The story is basically about Cassie and her single mother reluctantly moves from California to New Salem, Massachusetts, to take care of Cassie's grandmother. The local high school Cassie now attends is dominated by a very exclusive group of teens known as "the Club." It won't take the reader long to figure out that Club members are teen witches descended from the witches who survived the Salem witch hunts by leaving that town and starting their own.

This is a wonderful ser...more

L.J. Smith recently changed her name because she got tired of being one of a googolplex of Lisa J. Smiths. Her attempts to get people to call her by her new name have not, so far, been successful.
