Georgia Parish visits the Australian outback country for her grandfather's funeral. On her way back to the airport, she meets two people who got stuck in a river crossing. They are on the same plane when it crashes. Later, she finds that the plane was sabotaged. She is so emotional involved with the pilot and other passenger who died in the crash that she looks into the reasons why it happened.
The first suspect is Ronnie Chen, who was scheduled to be on the plane but never showed up. However, Ronnie is found murdered.

Another man on the plane is Lee Denham, supposidly, a person who smuggled Chinese people into Australia. He's a former police officer who is supposed to have gotten his partner killed. Now he is looking for Jon Ming, a scientist who left China with a valuable formula. The Chens are also looking for Ming. They think Georgia knows where he is and they torture her, cutting off her finger, in attempt to gain information. They want to bring Ming and his formula back to China.

Georgia is a fun character to read about. She knows no fear and gets into many predicuments, always managing to escape by the narrowest manner. However, after getting her finger cut off, she continued to fight as if nothing happened and this was difficult to believe.

The plot develops in a logical manner and we share with Georgia, the search for Ming and the attempted evasion of the Chen's. As the story progresses, the author describes the Australian countryside in a most picturesque manner.
Some good parts, interesting characters but a let down at the story's conclusion.

There many different elements in this book, each of which would have made an interesting story. Combined the story seemed crowded with plot lines. Also, no normal, real human being could confront death so many times and remain functional if they did not grow up in a war zone or region full of terrorism. Add on top of that the fact that the main character's mother was kidnapped, and we should have seen a total freak out. I would have collapsed.

The setting of this book is what makes it interesting. It is set in northern Queensland, Australia and the people that live there have a different slant on life than most Americans. The main protagonist however is a let down as she is one of those folks who has an iron constitution and the luck of the Irish helping her get out of trouble which she is dead set on fininding.

that's a thriller! and you don't know what is happening until the last pages, just the way it should be. The characters are interesting, with enough shades between good and bad to keep you reading and wanting more. The description of the Australian outback is fascinating, at least for people like me who have never seen it.

After reading the back of the book, I thought it sounded decent but I did not expect it to be as great as it ended up being! Surprises around every chapter, multiple crimes evolving into one large mystery. Its a book you can't predict, and one you will never forget!
