After centuries alone in darkness, how far will a vampire go for Sunshine?

Jack VanAllen has spent his long life following the rules and, as a member of the Vampire Committee, he also enforces them. So, when he awakens in an alley next to an illegally-turned vampire who resembles his late wife, he must prove his innocence or suffer the punishment: death. The problem? He doesn’t remember a thing.

Sunshine Petersen’s life as a vampire isn’t getting off to a great start. She’s got no control over her powers, can’t find a job, and sexy Jack is being stand-offish. The only thing she’d like more than catching the creep who turned her is getting Jack into the closest bed. But, could Jack be the one who turned her?

When he and Sunny team up to find the culprit, Jack discovers feelings he hasn’t had in years. But once Sunny finds out he’s keeping a major secret, she disappears. Unfortunately, the man who turned her still has plans…

This was my first book by McKitrick and I really enjoyed it. The characters were engaging and the dialogue was funny. Sunshine and Jack are pretty great together. I thought that the fact that she looked like his deceased wife would bother me more than it did. I liked how McKitrick dealt with their similar features. Jack does acknowledge the fact that she looks a lot like his wife but very soon after they meet, he just sees her. It does play a somewhat large part in the book but that mostly stems from his desire not to tell Sunshine of the similarities.

There two main secondary characters that were pretty big parts of the story as well, Sunshine and Jack’s best friends. Each plays an important role in their friends’ life and in the story. I hope there is a story written about them in the future.

At times I wanted to smack Sunshine up side the head for the stupid things she does but I also think that, if I was in that situation, I may do some of that too. She rarely takes Jack at his word about things and is determined to do things her way which usually lands her in trouble. Jack is pretty tolerant of her behavior but more than once he compares her attitude to his dead wife’s and that did get on my nerves. I was also highly amused by the vampire hunters. As if Sunshine didn’t have enough issues to deal with as a newly turned vamp, now she has would be hunters popping up out of no where.

There is the mystery of who changed Sunshine into a vampire but that keeps getting put on the back burner as Jack and Sunshine’s relationship develops. We get a brief look into the vampire society that Jack seems to be a pretty big part of and I would have liked more about that. The whole book takes place away from his home and duties so I can’t help but wonder how things will change when they go back to his home and he goes back to work. Will Sunshine be bored? Get a job? How will they deal with her Dad? I feel like we could have used an epilogue to tie up some of the loose ends.

This was a cute, interesting read. I really liked the baseline of the story with Jack and Sunny both waking up unaware of what happened, her illegally turned, and him afraid he could have done it due to her likeness to his late wife. There was a good amount of mystery leading to constant second guessing of who may have done it.

It was nice to have everything fall in place at the end and get answers to all the questions, but I feel like there was more potential to the overall story. I was a little bothered by how quick they fell in love; it's not that I don't believe it is possible, I just would have liked a little more detail of Jack and Sunny's interactions to make me feel it (and I'm not talking about sexual interactions, because those parts were fine). I would have liked this book to be a little longer, with a little more build-up of the connection between Jack and Sunny

It appears that this is intended to be a stand-alone book, but I really think it has potential to be more. I think the story could easily continue to at least a book following through with what happens to the one who turned Sunny and the relationship between Frank and Carrie. Either way I'm happy; I enjoyed this book and will read it again, but I would definitely continue on if there was another book to the story.

3.5 Stars in my Sky!

Jack is facing the morning and hangover from hell - he wakes up by a dumpster as the sun is rising, to discover a half dead woman next to him and no recollection of what happened or how they got there. Sun is BIG problem because Jack is a vampire. The woman Sunshine (I wasn't keen on the name as it reminded me of the annoying girl from Glee) looks exactly like Jack's long dead wife, and is apparently mid vamp-transmission. The story follows Sunny and Jack as they try to find who bit or 'vamped' Sunny and prove Jack's innocence.

It was interesting to see how angry Sunny was at being turned into a vamp. I laughed a lot at her many new-vamp mishaps. I didn't completely buy into their super speedy connection, because it was hard to separate Jack's attraction to Sunny from the memory of his dead wife. McKitrick addresses this issue by having Jack consider the differences between Clara and Sunny. Jack himself even questions the attraction, but more interestingly he worries her interest may stem from some sort of hero worship or saviour complex. I found Sunny a bit annoying at times because she kept changing her mind.

The other characters were a fun edition and I liked the idea of secondary drinking to get drunk issue (it'll make more sense when you read the book but think of blood alcohol content). The hunters were hilarious and the Buffy refs made me smile.

My Sunny Vampire is a fun, adult story with some naughty bits so it's not for younger readers.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

My Sunny Vampire (Bitten by Love, #1) by Stacy McKitrick
3.5 out of 5 Stars

This is such a sweet, quick, feel good romance for Vampire loving readers. It has just enough steam and bite to keep it from being sappy.
Sunshine wakes up with a strange, yet sexy man who keeps telling her even stranger tales that are too hard to believe. But what she doesn't understand is that Jack is strangely different and his tales are true. She has been turned into a vampire and neither of them can remember how it happened, but boy do they have an electrical attraction that disturbs her on a primal level. The challenge of finding out who turned her and who is trying to set up Jack before the Committee of Vampires comes down on him is quite a feat. But then when Sunny's best friend Clara falls for Frank, Jack's vampy BFF, things get even more involved.

McKitrick keeps this great NA book moving with lots of great action, some hot sex scenes that don't get raunchy, and characters that I hope continue in another story soon!

Really cute paranormal romance. The romance between Sunny and Jack was sweet. The mystery of who turned her and how Jack lost his memories was intriguing. The good characters were sympathetic and fun. The villain was just the right amount of evil. And I loved the climax when they got was was coming to them. I could've cheered.

Sure there were a couple spots that frustrated me, but I find the same things frustrating in other romances, so it's more me than the book. The heroine not trusting the man she loves seems to be a popular trope, so I really can't fault the writing for that. I just can't give it a full 5 stars. I'd give it 4.5 stars if GR allowed half stars.

Still, the book as a whole was totally fun and I zipped through it in about a day. Plus, it was a great break from work just when I needed one. I definitely need to snag more of Ms. McKitrick's books.

Ms. McKitrick knows how to spin a romance and leave burn marks behind those of us who read her works!

Another 5 stars!

Jack VanAllen, a member of the Committee, awakes in an alley, with amnesia, less than an hour before dawn and right next to an unconscious woman. It turns out the woman, Sunshine Petersen, has been injected with the venom which will turn her from a mortal into a vampire.

The problem? She doesn’t remember who injected her, who she is, who the man taking care of her is; her life is ripped from her in a heartless and illegal act.

My Sunny Vampire is a fun book with just enough romance to keep you turning the pages even if you don’t enjoy the classic who-dun-it mystery.

Keep ‘em coming Ms. McKitrick. I, for one, will read every word you write!

I go back and forth on vampires. Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't. Generally when I don't like them it's because they're too good and too perfect and have no issues staying hidden and avoiding the sun and convincing pretty mortal girls to fall all over them. What I really enjoyed about these vampires is that they have weaknesses and are flawed. I found the characters easy to relate to and likable in their own rights.

Aside from being about vampires it's about love, redemption, and self-discovery. I loved watching Sunshine adjust to vampire life and enjoyed her stubbornness and determination, even when she constantly got herself into...interesting predicaments! This was a fun and exciting read. I would absolutely read more by this author.

Waking up in snow bank after a night on the town is just enough to make you forget the night before. But when a sexy guy wakes you up and you don't remember?????? Did I have to much fun the night before?

Reality gets twisted and denial is your best friend make that your next to best friend you know your life has changed. You have slayers calling you Buffy and trying to stake you, blood is now your drink of choice...ewww then mmmm, and your best friend is happy for you and just a little envious that she does not have fangs.

The book is a quick read and funny.

An engaging vampire novel with a twist! Sunshine is funny, a little quirky, sweet and doesn't cuss (Fudge!!)......there certainly were times in the book where a really heartfelt f-bomb would have been appropriate. Jack, a long time vamp who works on the council, goes to Pittsburgh to see an old friend when he meets the mortal Sunny. Mayhem, intrigue and romance follow as they both try to figure out how they ended up in their predicament! This was an enjoyable read and I also liked the world the author created.

A vampire named Sunny is kind of like a werewolf named Kitty. My Sunny Vampire by “new to me author” Stacy McKitrick is a fun romantic mystery with bite. Someone has turned Sunshine Petersen into a vampire. Was it vampire Councilman Jack? Sunny is a dead ringer for his dead wife and he can’t remember what happened that night. Was it Jacks friend Frank? He appears to have a drinking problem. Or could it be someone else? Join Jack, Frank, Sunny and her friend Carrie as they try to find out who turned Sunny and maybe fall in love along the way.

A slow start and a clichéd cover nearly put me off reading this vampire romance. I'm glad I stuck it out. It turned out to be a fun read. In typical romance novel fashion most of the interpersonal tension came from secret keeping. Luckily there is just enough non-romance tension to balance it all out. I took off a few stars for world building. I didn't get enough description of places and people. I was left wanting more details about life in Mckitrick's vampire society. Hopefully more details will be filled in the next book.

Great Book

I like vampire books and this one is really great. It's a little different twist on the vampire tale. It's got quite a mystery going until the end of the book when you discover the when, why and who. I loved it and didn't put it down until I finished, in fact when my kindle ran down I read it on my kindle app on my phone. I certainly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

Sunshine with Fangs

This is a great vampire romance that had some suspense. I enjoyed the connection between Jack and Sunshine as they went on the search of who turned her into a vampire.
I loved how spunky Sunshine was able to get Jack to loosen up.

I recommend this story if you’re looking for a fun hot romance with suspense.

The insta-lust and insta-love forever after 4 days left me creeped out. The hero (or the centiries old vampires ingeneral) lacked the smarts and sophistication after having lived so long. Not to mention their fail safe, their time to think through every loop hole.... i liked the heroine, mostly... :( I blame my mood while reading it ... but I also won't come back to read it again.

Good read

Let me first say that I debated this book because some reviews said it wasn't complete, you didn't find out who turned her. That is not the case and I'm so glad I got this book. It was very well written and at times had you wanting to bite your nails. I love Sunny and Jack. Great summer read.

I don't know why I put off reading this book. The beginning grabbed and kept my attention. Sunny and Jack are the main two characters. Sunny was turned against her will and its Jacks mission to find out who did it - or was it him?? This is an over all a solid A for me.

Pretty good book. Will read the others when I stop being lazy and get more money to buy them. (This one was a free bookbub one. I have found a lot of authors I like because of that. This author is now on my list of authors I like).

I have a problem with vampires who are too kind or too soft. After all for me they are undead and have something to prove. That made me not enjoy this book as much as I could have. It wasn't totally horrible but I don't think I enjoyed it very much. At some points I even forgot they were vampires. The mystery part of it was good. Know it was one of them but couldn't exactly pinpoint which one of them it was which was very good. Overall it wasn't totally bust. I think this one is for those who believe vampires can be soft and wonderful.

This book was a little lighter read than I expected. In the end, it did have mystery and romance so that is a saving grace. I would recommend it for middle school and up. No descriptive sex or blood scenes.
