Summer Luv #1

Flutter Of Luv

Rate this book
Dawn, the neighborhood tomboy, is happy to be her best friend’s shadow. Acceptance comes from playing football after school with the guys on the block while hiding safely behind her glasses, braces, and boyish ways. But Tony moves in, becomes the star Running Back on her school’s football team, and changes her world and her view of herself forever. This is a short story told in ten episodes similar to an anthology of short stories over the course of Dawn’s and Tony’s realization of how much they mean to one another. Also there is a short story at the end called Hush A Bye My Baby Brother for the reader to enjoy along with samples of LM Preston’s other book Look for THUNDERING LUV book 2 in the SUMMER LUV series.

LM. Preston was born and raised in Washington, DC. An avid reader, she loved to create poetry and short-stories as a young girl. With a thirst for knowledge she attended college at Bowie State University, and worked in the IT field as a Techie and Educator for over sixteen years. She started writing science fiction under the encouragement of her husband who was a Sci-Fi buff and her four kids. Her first published novel, Explorer X - Alpha was the beginning of her obsessive desire to write and create stories of young people who overcome unbelievable odds. She loves to write while on the porch watching her kids play or when she is traveling, which is another passion that encouraged her writing.

What a horrendous piece of humus. The reviews are terribly misleading. I refuse to accept that I'm the only one who despised this.

The blurb said it's a story about a tomboy and the new guy falling for each other. What it doesn't say is that the tomboy, Dawn, completely changes herself in order to woo the new guy, Tony.
Not only that, but Tony tells her to change.

If you took off your glasses, I think all the guys on the team would want a chance with you.

After that, he proceeds to tell her to wear her hair down to look prettier. What a dick.

Another stupid part is everything concerning Poochie, the so-called best friend of Dawn. She constantly put Dawn down, insulting her for having no breasts (which Dawn, of course, grows in the end, because appearances! so important! crucial!), flirting with Tony even though she knew Dawn liked him, and finally, making a show of a game "Guess the taste" or some other stupid shit like that in which she made Dawn chew and swallow worms and dirt. After that, Poochie tells Tony to escort Dawn home, which results in Dawn being thankful

Poochie was the best friend of all. She gave me Tony all to myself.
Did you fucking forget you just threw up because of what she did to you?? Fucking idiot. In the end, I think Dawn starts to realize Poochie is a bitch, but that is only after Poochie becomes a caricature of a mean girl. It was painful to read about, truly.

I mean, this is from near the beginning:

One time, one of Poochie’s boyfriends actually pinched my breast and said, “Pitiful. Poochie you should donate some of yours to her.” And then Poochie and he had burst out laughing. I didn’t find it funny, but like always, I laughed with them anyway—while I rubbed my sore chest.
???????

I'm not even going to talk about the grammar and confusing sentence structures. It's readable, but maybe if it weren't, I'd have given up on reading and my life would have been happier. Thank God it was written in the short story form, describing the episodes from Dawn's life. Had it been a full-length novel, it would have probably been even more boring and cringe-worthy.

I'm not afraid to give one star for to a book just because it's by an indie author and needs the support. If you write cringe-y cliches, you have it coming even if you're an acclaimed author.

This was a really nice short story.

As someone who lacked both money and a chest growing up, I could really relate to Dawn. Her insecurities felt very real and some of the crap she had to endure really hit home. I applaud LM Preston for giving us a realistic view into Dawn's life, both the good sides and the bad.

And I also really enjoyed how the story was told in episodes, so we didn't have to read about the times in Dawn's life where nothing much different was happening and she was just left to pine over Tony.

I wish I had seen a little more of the love story developing in the sense of seeing a deeper connection between Dawn and Tony though. Don't get me wrong, Tony did some cute things along the way to show us he was falling for Dawn, but being a hopeless romantic, I needed more to give this story a full 5 stars. If you aren't a fanatic about romanticism, then you probably won't have the same issue as I did at all. ;)

All in all, this was a sweet little story and I thank the author for giving me a chance to read it in exchange for an honest review.

Since this was a short story, I'm going to keep my description a bit shorter to avoid spoilers.
Dawn has always been a tomboy. She wears big, ugly glasses, has braces, and always wears her hair in a ponytail. She plays football with all of the neighborhood boys until Tony shows up. Dawn has never felt so flustered over a boy before Tony. As time goes on, she becomes closer to Tony, but never in a romantic way. She longs for him but believes she will always be his tomboy friend.

I'm going to leave it just like that, short and sweet.

I really enjoyed this short story. I feel that LM created a story that most teens can relate to. I felt Dawn's emotions throughout the story and that is important to me as a reader. I think it's safe to say that you could tell what that story was leading up to, but reading what did transpire made my grin like a 3 year old on Christmas day. My cheeks still hurt from smiling so darn much. I wasn't expecting the last few scenes and I was sad because I thought things were through for Dawn and Tony. I will admit that the last scene made me cry. It was an "I'm so happy, I want to hug LM" cry LOL. I would highly recommend this short story to anyone, teenager and adult. Let me just further add that Poochie, is a meanie head!! That is all... :-)

Your parents were kids when you arrived, so while they're in your life, they're not really. Your refuge is Nana. And how about you? Well, you're the fifteen-year-old who can't afford contacts, or a hair salon. What's worse is you still have braces and your breasts haven't come in yet, not like the other girls. You're the tomboy who loves to play football with the "rag tag" team in your hood. Then Tony arrives and he's the one you crave to notice the young woman behind those horrid glasses and wired teeth.

This is a sweet story about first love and all the angst that comes with it. What I enjoyed most were the characters: Nana who says things, like, ". . . in life we get what we get, so deal with it." Dawn, the MC, with the knowledge that, "Every girl has a little ‘stalker’ in her. And, of course, Tony who won't tell a girl he loves her unless he means it.

I also loved the authentic and consistent voice of this ten episode story. Well told and interesting from start to finish. A book with lots of heart.

Flutter by Luv is a short short by the wonderful L.M. Preston. It is a touching first love tale of an awkgward girl who doesn't realize her true inter and outer beauty until the right guy comes along to show her. I fell so in love with the characters in this story! Dawn is the ugly duckling turned into the beautiful swan and Tony is the sweet wonderful boy we all wished we had in our lives when we all went through that stage of life. L.M. did a wonderful job with this story the only thing I found wrong with it was I wish it had been a full length novel. Because for me it was over way too soon. Flutter of Luv would be perfect for a quick read on your lunch break or anytime you find you don't want to get wrapped up in a full length novel. Flutter of Luv can be found on Amazon for just .99 cents! Here is the link so go check it out. And please remember to leave a review on Amazon and or Goodreads.

This is an endearing story of learning to trust one's inner self, letting go, and giving in to that first love. Most of us can relate to the awkwardness that comes with those middle school years; some of us can relate to carrying those feelings as we continued to grow and mature throughout our high school years.

I loved Dawn's flaws and how they eventually motivated and changed her from the inside out. Her emotions and reactions within her world felt real and moving. It wasn't a stretch at all for me to relate on a personal level, which drew me deeper into the story. Tony was interesting as well, especially the way he allowed for the sweet friendship to blossom and learned to trust in it. This provided for nice tension.

It was an easy read, written in short episodes, which made for nice pacing.

5*s....This is very cute short story about a girl, Dawn who has trouble with friends, money, and being flat chested!! Its got high school drama, puppy love and all the things kids, Dawn's age goes through when they are lower on the totem poll. I really felt for Dawn and I felt that I could put myself in her place. I also LOVED the fact that it was broken down into scenes. Its a new way of reading for me and an experience that I enjoyed and wished some other authors wrote this way!! I am super happy that I got the chance to read the wonderful short story!!

Flutter of Luv is a short story about two friends falling in love. Dawn is not the typical girlie girl. She’s more of the tomboy type. She falls for Tony – the new kid on the block and a handsome jock.
Dawn’s character is so relatable. She has problems with friends, money, being able to tell what she feels. I love the fact that Dawn was shown as a strong girl who could play football better than some guys but it also showed a feminine side of her.
The way the scenes were broken down sorta reminded me of reading a play! :P Hehe...
A sweet little read. :)

I cried when I read this story. I could see myself as Dawn with all those insecurities that fifteen year old girls have. Especially the ones who have best friends who are selfish and narcissistic. I was always more comfortable with boys too. I liked how the story flowed but was a little disappointed that it ended so quick I wanted more :) Tony was an all around great guy despite his early beginning, but really who could blame the guy Dawn was hiding behind a wall of armor. A very bittersweet story of first love and the trials of being a teenager.

This short story felt like a novel. The author captures adolences beautifully with all it's highs and lows. That something special about your first true love is brought across here and the awkwardness of being the geeky kid who merits a place in your heart will win your over. The old neighborhood gang along with a few laughs and a few lessons to be learned made this really enjoyable.

From the very start, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s a quick read, but won’t leave you disappointed as you get to witness Dawn and Tony slowly begin to realise their feelings for each other. Well written with great character development, this will appeal to all romance lovers.
