Renée and Dante are dying. The soul they share cannot sustain them both, and they're quickly running out of time.

But Renée has in her possession a legendary chest said to contain the secret to eternal life-if only they could solve the clues that lie within it. With both the Liberum, a Brotherhood of the Undead, and a team of Monitors, led by Renée's own grandfather, in hot pursuit, Renée and Dante must keep the chest safe or risk having it fall into the wrong hands.

With the help of a mysterious letter-writer called only Monsieur, Renée and Dante follow a series of clues that lead them on a treacherous journey across Europe. They seek the Netherworld, a legendary chasm where souls go to be cleansed. It's their only chance at a fresh start, but with it comes a terrible choice, one they never imagined they would be forced to make.

The third novel in the acclaimed Dead Beautiful series is a haunting story of sacrifice, loyalty, and a love that can never die.

You can forget any coherent statements. Seriously, I am not even capable of forming proper thoughts. My mind is a mess after this book.
"I want a fresh start."

These words ran like a golden thread through the entire book. They were what everything was about.

It was
Magical
Enchanting
Bittersweet
.

There were so many sacrifices, so much of undeserved suffering of people too young for pain and grief. It hurt, but it was necessary.
The links connected in this book and it became finally obvious that every character had served a certain purpose. Every character had a journey and every character underwent a grave development during his or her journey.
Renée, her grandfather, Dante, Anya, Noah, Theo, Eleanor, Clementine, Dustin...
I loved each and every of them. They were all amazing, thoroughly extra-ordinary and unforgettable.

This story wasn't one of Death , but neither was it one of Life . It was a story of Rebirth and second chances and fresh starts for everyone who deserved such.
And everyone who is ready to fight and work and sacrifice deserves it.

I am so happy that I read this series, and I know for sure that I will come back to this series more than once in my life. Thank you, Yvonne Woon for such a wonderful experience.

The Dead Beautiful series is one of my all time favorites and it's so vastly underrated. It's so unjust to me that it slips farther into obscurity every year with new books constantly being released, and it becomes less likely for less-hyped books to be experienced. If you haven't read any of the books in this trilogy and are taking the time to read this little review, then I hope that means you are at least a little bit interested in this series and if that is the case then I am pleading with you to read Dead Beautiful. I love this series as a whole but I will always go back to the first one, eager to experience the charm of it again. The characters are completely captivating and the relationships are almost hypnotizing. I have read so many books (YA especially) in my life and without being able to really put a finger on it I've found something indescribably unique and beautiful about this series that I have yet to find in other books. Yvonne Woon took that classic YA recipe and added in this special, secret ingredient that made her series the freshest, most delicious books you will ever take in. Love Reborn was a beautiful finale to a truly unforgettable series and I hope to taste a little of what I've found here in many books to come.

This book was, in my opinion, the best of the series. I felt that there wasn't as much wasted time spent. I liked the faster pace. But now I feel the need to rant...

First, let's start with the characters;

Renee- I really don't care for her. I don't care that she's the main character, she just annoys me, especially with the way she treats Theo. She has an almost capricious nature and it gets on my nerves! I wish she wasn't the focus of the story. I guess throughout the series I've never really liked her, which may have been one of the reasons it was hard to read. There's just something about her...

Dante- Definitely liked him best in book 1. With him decaying more and not seeing much of him in book 2, there really has not been much character development, so I wasn't really 'attached' to him as a reader. He kind of seemed like a dull addition in the story instead of being part of the main love interest. Nothing about Dante screams captivating.

Theo- I liked him from the start. I thought he was smart and exactly what was needed for the journey to the Netherworld. It made me angry with how Renee treated him and how much she distrusted his judgment.I mean, there's a difference between wariness and rudeness.

Anya- The spunky, superstitious Russian! I enjoyed her character, and her strange perceptiveness. I think she would be a good friend to have, which made it more intense when I realized that she was (what was it again? Oh yeah) DYING! I was like 'NO! Get to the Netherworld!!!' It made sense why she wanted to go with Renee, and why she kept taking so many pills.

Noah- Seriously. You aren't even in the first book, show up in the second and die, then are barely in the third book, but somehow think that Renee will choose you over Dante? Really?! Then, when Renee tells you she won't choose you, you try to bury/kill yourself (forcing the group to use the soul they have on you)?!?! Just. Get. Out.

Eleanor- This character was one of my favorites in the first book, but when she was barely even mentioned in the second book, I didn't think that I would ever hear about her again. But! Apparently, she's been trying to help Renee close to the Entire time in the third book without anyone knowing. I felt like this twist didn't really fit in with the past context, but if the second book had have involved her more, I think it would've been good.

Renee's Grandpa- I warmed up to him, then scolded him, then at his death, forgave him. It was a roller coaster ride. Honestly, I felt like there was too much change in the emotional reactivity towards him that I just kind of tried to ignore him altogether.

Clementine- No! I'm not supposed to warm up to you when you were my least favorite character in the second book!

Dustin/Monsieur- I've always liked Dustin, and near the end suspected that he was Monsieur, but even before that he was a great character. He just seems like the open, caring grandfatherly figure.

The Elders- All annoyed me

The Monitors- Way to stupid. Reputation I had for them went waaaayyy down between the first and last books

The Keepers- Creepy.

Ophelia Hart- Really? The only time you're in the book is when you supposedly pull Renee out of a river. Come on.

Nathaniel- What the poop! You're only in the first book, then forgotten about, then Miraculously are mentioned again in, like, a Single Sentence in the third book?! No. Not okay.

Rene Descartes- Really strange when the point of view shifted to him for about 5 pages. Unexpected.

Okay, next, I felt like the love issues weren't really resolved. In my head, it's Renee and Dante, Anya and Theo, and Eleanor and Noah. But the connection between Theo and Anya wasn't really developed/explained, and the Eleanor and Noah theory went up in smoke when he expressed his love for Renee. :/

I did Not like the ending. Really? She just forgets everything?! She doesn't even care for her friends anymore? Will she forget the day after, or won't she now that she met up with the alive Dante? Ugh! I was happy though that Anya and Eleanor were cured and healthy.

Finally, I thought that because all of Renee's senses became dull, so did the book! It started to become less and less intriguing and almost became rather boring.

And this concludes probably the longest review I have ever written. :)

First of all, I finally decided to just buy the hard cover. I have waited a long time on the paperback, and then on the release date. POOF, the paperback that I wanted disappeared and the only other paperback was an ugly one that didn't match with the rest of my series. Thus, I bought the hard cover. At least that one has a matching cover. :) Really hate when this happens though. Me, waiting for a long time, and then when it is here and I am all excited it either gets delayed, the paperback disappears, or it turns out the paperback suddenly does have a different cover than when I bought it.

Now for the book!

This is the last book in this series. Throughout the book I was slightly worried if the author could finish it. There was still so much to be said, so much to be done. And the worry grew until the last part, when I saw that all would be good and that this one would have a good ending (more on that ending later in the review).

The story is packed full with exciting turns, twists and events happening. We find out several things about Renée, but also other characters get the spotlight. Lovely characters like: Anya, Dante, Eleanor and Noah! But also characters that, for most of the book, I didn't like. Like Theo.

God, I disliked Theo. In general I don't really like characters who steal from people. I think it is sneaky and a bad quality to have. I also didn't like how big of an ego he had. Seriously, it just got annoying with him acting all superior. Towards the end, when we find out some stuff, I started liking him a bit more, but sorry, never more than just a little sliver of like.

The other character I didn't like was Renée's grandfather. Dear Lord, I already disliked him in the other books, but in this one he is not really helping his cause. He is a dick. I am sure he all means it well for his granddaughter, but let's just face the facts, she is never going to leave Dante.

And then we have a whole slew of fun and wonderful characters. Like seeing Anya again. \o/ Anya and her wonderful Tarot readings, it was really interesting to see her do Tarot and see how often she was just right about things. It helped the party out really much. The ending, when we find out certain things, broke me. I am still sniffling a bit when I think about it. No spoilers though, so read it for yourself, be prepared to have tissues ready.
Noah and Eleanor also make a big appearance. I won't spoil anything, just that I was delighted to see the characters make a comeback. Especially after what happened in the last book. Yay, for characters coming back!

Then we still have Dante and Renée left. Renée was, as expected, awesome again. I loved her and how she kept going even though she lost so much that reminded/remembered her of Dante. It was heartbreaking to see her push through, to see her find out that she couldn't remember Dante's voice, or his touch. :( :(
But like I said, she keeps going on. She has a goal in mind, and is determined to get it. To get Dante to live.
I would say more about Renée, but I think I might spoil things then, I am already bordering on that spoil border.

Dante, ah Dante. *swoon* I always loved Dante, however in this book Dante is a bit scary/creepy. You can clearly see that he is reaching the end of his life. When he gets angry, or when you find out he can't really hear or see much. It just broke my heart and I was cheering so hard that he would survive! He and Renée are really a cute couple, and while I wished for more romance, I can also imagine that there wasn't that much of it. After all, when kisses can kill you... that really kills the mood.

The story itself and the setting (from the US to Europe) was delightful and I really enjoyed it. And a lot of plus points to the writer for getting my country's name right. Finally someone who calls it the Netherlands, and not Holland as so many do. I also loved that a bit of the book was about my country. That really cheers me up.

Then we come to the last part I want to mention. The ending. Or should I say, OMG WOW EPIC ENDING. <3 <3 Sorry, it isn't often that I come across an ending that makes me feel happy and sad at the same time. The ending is just perfection. It was sweet, lovely and so much more!

All in all, this was a perfect last book in a series. It made me cry, it made me smile, it made me angry and much more. I would really recommend this book and also this series. Read it!

I purchased Dead Beautiful a couple years ago on a complete whim. Not because of its cover, a book shouldn't be judged by its cover, but rather because the tittle caught my attention. The fact that it was a mirror image just drew me in. I was hooked from the beginning. Mid way through the book I remember searching to see if this book was a standalone. To my pleasant surprise, it was scheduled to be a trilogy. One of which the second book, Life Eternal, was scheduled to come out shortly after I finished Dead Beautiful. The ending to Life Eternal was so epic that I just knew Woon had a crazy trip for the third and final book of the series. And I was right. HOWEVER, I was so disappointed by the ending. I felt like it was so rushed. I guess after waiting TWO WHOLE YEARS I expected something grand for the ending. But instead I felt like it was wrapped too quickly. And please tell me why(SPOILER ALERT) no where in the last bit where Renee finally sees Dante for the first time in six months, since they freakin' died and came back to life, does Woon even talk about Renee seeing his Brown eyes that seemed to be such a huge staple throughout this book. I guess I just expected so much more. I finally expected them to kiss and for them to enjoy it because no longer was Dante dead but rather alive. AND don't even get me started on how everyone else's lives were so quickly wrapped up! Theo and Anya had such a huge part in this book but they barely got a pass over in the ending. Which was okay i guess because the book wasn't really about them but rather Renee and Dante but STILL. It would have been nice to get something more from them. Clementine doesn't even get mentioned in the end. AND THEN THERE IS NOAH. Oh my freaking gosh.(SPOILER FREAKING ALERT) why the hell would this fool kill himself? Because Renee decided to choose Dante over him? I mean COME ON NOAH. Talk about MELODRAMATIC. I expected so much more from him. And it absolutely ached me when he confessed that he wanted Renee to choose him. And Renee tells him she can't because Dante is her life. I just didn't expect him to make such a heartbreaking decision. It just pissed me off. All in all, I was just so let down by this ending. I expected so much for the ending of this book. And I guess that's why I was so disappointed with it. It was still a good book though- full of adventure and discovery and what not. But the ending just killed me. I kinda wanted to shove my book against a wall but I love my book. So I contained my anger and I am now here.

This review will likely be pretty short. I didn't really get into it and I just skimmed a good portion of the book.

This whole book, despite being over 350 pages, seemed very rushed. They all of a sudden got from one place to another, even though they were traveling all across Europe. Renee, Dante, and these two other people (I can't remember their names), had to find clues to figure out where they needed to go in Europe. However, they seemed to figure out these clues almost instantly. They never seemed to stay in one place for long.

This quest that they are on is for eternal life or something. I just couldn't help but question this. They're teenagers. Why are they wanting eternal life? So they can deal with their raging hormones for all of eternity? I'm so confused. Or it was something for Dante's zombie-ness, which is pretty much a zombie version of Stephanie Meyer's vampires: super-hawt, sad excuse for a creepy supernatural creature. I thought that if they got rid of Dante's zombie-ness though, he would age to the age he actually was, and I thought that was mid to late-30s or something. That'd be a gross relationship between an 18 year old and a 36 year old.

I know that I skimmed through this book a lot, so maybe that's why there's a lot of stuff that didn't make sense. And maybe that's why everything happened so fast.

Renee
She still annoyed me. I think it's her undying, obsessed love with Dante from Day 1.

Dante
He still annoyed me, too. Plus he's creepy. New Edward-type over here.

Overall, I don't remember much from this book, and I read it only a month ago. It passed by in a blur. It was OK. This series had such great potential, but I feel like it wasn't executed well. Too much focus on the romance and that's what killed it. Oh well. At least I finished another series though!

Excellent. The sad part is that it ended. I would have liked a slightly longer ending. I wish authors would not cut the romantic endings short. As readers who have grown to love the characters and have eagerly read all books in the trilogy, we deserve a little more.

All the same, I highly recommend this series. It's easily one of the best trilogies ever written. I waited a long time for the last book and loved every moment of it.

So this book is the last one of The Dead Beautiful trilogy, and it was good, yet not what I wanted it to be like 🤔😅
.
First, we come to know what happens to almost every main character in this trilogy, which I've expected and appreciated. Renee and Dante's story goes through a lot of twists and turns over the three books, yet somehow their love finds a way to flourish. Their strong, apparent love appears though in the first book, which I think is understandable as they become weaker and their souls- or is it their soul ? Struggles to survive😤
.
Coming to other characters, I felt sorry for Noah in this book, surprisengly. And I come to love Clementine or whatever her name is in this book. She somehow grows and becomes a real good logical human being and Monitor! I felt that Anya'a character has slightly changed in this book. She has always been an isolated, strong girl, but then again she has a reason. Theodore, a new character in this book, is my favourite here. He is funny, straightforward, and cute. Even though all characters suspected him for some reason, I thought that he is the hero in this book. He has his own story as well!😑
.
Characters: they are well rounded and well characterized and I've fought for them. Yet, as this book is surounded by a bittersweet, dark and negative aura, every single character starts to struggle internally more than externally, which makes sense but somehow it made me feel that the relationships and friendships between the characters grow to become more distant and weird.

.

The ending of the book was OK! But it did not blow me away, nor did make me satisfied. I felt that it was a little bit rushed as if to say, "let's get this freaking story wraped up and finished". Not bad though. It's just that I expected more as it is the last book, but I felt a little bit disappointed 🤔😑

"Love is like any other superstition—you can't prove it, you just have to believe in it."

This was probably the most disappointing and yet most exciting book in the Dead Beautiful trilogy. The book starts right after where Life Eternal ends. Or well, some time after that but the situation isn't any different. Dante and Renee are still running from the Monitors, all the while running from the Liberum as well. It is hard living like that, especially when Renee's senses have depleted. But they are managing. That is, until Dante receives the invitation from Mousier to go to a certain location where they end up meeting Anya and Theo, who apparently also received his invitation.

I think the most heartbreaking thing about this book was the ending of each character.

Then, the reason I found it a little disappointing was because of how slow it was for the most part of it. I agree, the previous two books were slow too, but this one was slower still. For the first half of it, I was actually bored out of my wits as to what on earth is happening and that I want something to happen soon. Yet, when it did happen, I was nothing but amazed at it. Perhaps, these things take time and it needed to be done this way in order for it to make sense.

The swift change in setting also surprised me. But more than that, it excited me. If Woon was moving this book from America to Europe then there better be a nice reason behind it. That reason was the one that kept me going throughout. Yet, the fact remains that I loved their life in schools and with two books entirely set in two different schools, it was disheartening to realize that there would be one that wasn't. It saddened me, and I wished there could be some more of Gottfried involved.

At the same time, I love the book as it is. Perhaps, not the beginning but definitely the ending!

Wow. I'm still in slight shock. I've followed this series since the very first book, and years later here we are.
There are so many things to say, but unfortunately I don't have time right now to write a lengthy review, but here are the cliffnotes.
This series has stirred up so many emotions, mainly because it's so uniquely, beautifully different. Which is hard to find these days. The mythology is flawless, though as times a little hard to follow. Renee and Dante's story is so heartbreakingly perfect, there are no words. No words. These are two of my favorite leads and together couples in the whole literary world, and It's just so bittersweet to say good bye to them.
I'll just tell you why it's so wonderful. Due, of course, to the 'taking souls' thing, they've only kissed, like, what, three times in the entire series? I just to have to say, major props to Yvonne Woon, a very talented writer, for creating a couple with such romance in intimacy, with barely anything physical. That is a hard thing to do, and hers was flawless.
The characters were unforgettable, and this story just makes a mark. That very last scene just gave me major goosebumps. I'm excited to see what Ms. Woon write next, I am a devoted fan.
Renee/Dante <3

Confession time. I was biased against this book from the starting. I guess somewhere I didn't even want to like this book. [Reason:Read reviews of previous books in the series]
So obviously, that's what happened. It didn't help that Renee is one of the least likeable characters I have ever read. And I have read, unfortunately, quite a few annoying characters.
It was in first person perspective and I couldn't sympathize/empathize with her even once. And I read three freaking books. How did she manage to that is beyond me.
Then there are relationships between characters. I am sorry, but I found them so... weird. No, I am not going to explain what I meant.

unhunhn. I don't know. I just want a good book now. It's been a loooooong time! Please, a good book, be on my way.
Sincerely

The last book in the Dead Beautiful series was so addictive I read it in two sittings.

Once again the mystery was on point and the pace of this book was perfect.

We are introduced to a new character, Theo. I thought his story fit with the Dead Beautiful trilogy amazingly. He lets us know that there is a massive conspiracy surrounding monitors and he taught me that everyone deserves second chances.

I loved the letters that were sent by Monsieur and I was pleasantly surprised when we found out who he was. I thought it wrapped up the story brilliantly.

I would have liked to know more about Renee's friends at the end. How their memory was, if they made full recoveries etc. Other than that this book was perfect.

That final page made my heart flutter, Renee and Dante.

Quite enjoyable conclusion to the series and unlike some I rather liked the ending although I would have been happy if Renee ended up in a cafe with Noah in Montreal sharpening her Spade so to speak. In sum, this series of three novels add up to so much more than the book covers might indicate haha. The supernatural elements at play in the story are quite interesting and Ms. Woon's conception of the undead and the soul is unique, as is the idea of a monitoring society whose job it is to bury them if need be and guide them at other times. Hopefully this is not the end...

Pour l'Amour Vrai. For true love.

This book is not about any sappy stuff of the star-crossed lovers.
It is about the chest that contains the secret to eternal life.
The journey to discover the secret.

About Love : The sacrifice to make in search for it.
About having faith.

One of my favorite quote from the book:

"Love is like any other superstition - you can't prove it, you just have to believe in it."

About Reborn :The chance to start afresh, to be reborn, a fresh start.

The final book took us to ten days since Noah dived into the lake to retrieve the chest for Renée.
Ten days since Noah was dragged back into the frozen lake.
Ten days since Dante whisked Renée away just before one of the Liberum took her soul.
And Dante is dying and time is running short on him.

Renée and Dante are on the run and to solve the mystery of the chest. In search for eternal life.
For their quest, they were aided with directions and warnings by a mysterious Monsieur and were joined by an old friend (Anya) and a stranger (Theo).
Renée is also "seeing" Noah in her dreams.

It was refreshing that the author did not revolve the book solely between Renée and Dante. They were together, they got separated. They met with friends, got separated again and be reunited once again.
Love is not about romance between a boy and a girl. Love is not about reading the boy goes "I love you", and the girl goes "I love you too".
You will understand that sometimes, love is not something you write down or just by simply saying "I love you."
It is felt through the actions / sacrifices made / a simple reply.
It was so haunting, so sad yet so beautiful.
"My answer is you," I said. "It's always been you."

"And mine, you," he said.

The author had also touched on the past of Theo and the reason behind the involvement of Theo and Anya.
Mysterious Monsieur was totally not who I had guessed.

And Noah.
It broke my heart to million pieces.
Fair warning: Do not click this if you have not read the book

And again.

I'm happy with the ending.
It's a nice closure to the series.
Thank you, Ms Woon for writing this wonderful series.
It certainly is a beautiful love story.

I’ve waited and waited to read Love Reborn, and finally it’s here. But after reading it, I’m on the fence, you guys. On the other hand, I’m happy on how it ended. I’m really happy for Renee and Dante. On the other, I’m feel it’s too squeaky clean to me. So you see, I’m torn here, definitely torn.

In the first two books we found out that Renee and Dante are sharing one soul. Dante is so close to withering away and they were running out of time. Remember Anya from the second book? Along with Theo, they were here helping Renee find the answers. But they need to work fast because not only the undead are after them. Her grandfather is also looking for Dante. After what has happened to the headmistress of Gottfried Academy, he had put the blame on Dante. He’s been adamant to hunt him down ever since. But they’re not cowering down, not now that they have a way to have their soul cleanse and start again. Is this the answer they’ve been looking for all this time?

I read the second book, Life Eternal, quite a long time. Anyhoo, some of the details a bit fuzzy to me (which I blame for the ARC I received & the released date being pushed much later), but I’m glad I still remember some of it. I might reread this series later. Now back to the story, there so many things had happened here, so much that I sort of panicked when there were few pages left and I felt that the resolution was nowhere near clear to me. I kinda think that the conclusion was sort fast to me. It’s just there’s so many things that Renee and Dante encountered and it was for me too quick to resolve.

I empathized with Dante in the second book. I feel sorry for him and his situation. I really liked him for Renee. He was selfless in a way that he rather live undead than take something that it is equally valuable to him as to Renee. And at the same time I admired his determination to protect her and find a way for them to be together. But it was kinda hard for him here with his time running out and he’s started to get weaker and weaker by the day.

I liked Renee but I wasn’t super impressed with her this time. Noah, on the other hand…oh my gosh, he was back. I was so relieved to know he was back. But I was sad after I learned what he needed to endure. Like Dante, he’s very dedicated to Renee. I cannot forget what he had said to Renee. What he had to sacrifice in order to keep her safe. And with that I became uncertain between him and Dante (who is now my favorite guy because I know Renee will always choose Dante).

So the ending? A bit vague but sure it was happy. All it took was a look in his eyes and everything returned to her. Like I said in the beginning I liked it because they both deserved it (I mean after everything, they earned it). On the other hand, it wasn’t memorable to me. Yep, still torn about it.

3.5/5

My thoughts:

Since I loved Dead Beautiful and its sequel Life Eternal so much, I was thrilled to finally read the conclusion, Love Reborn because I couldn’t wait to find out if Renée and Dante will get their happy ending.

It took me a little while to get into the story because I first had to remember what has happened in Life Eternal, but once I read the first chapters, I was immersed in this book and couldn’t stop reading because it was so suspenseful. I remembered why I loved this story so much – because it’s unique, it’s romantic, captivating and just beautiful.

Yvonne Woon’s writing style and descriptions were again wonderful and she achieved to convey the same creepy and dark atmosphere that she created in the first two books.

We are introduced to a new character named Theo and I really liked him from the beginning because has a mysterious past and he’s very charming. We also get to see more of Anya, which was great because she’s such a lovable protagonist. Noah is also present in this book, but I won’t say more about it, since I don’t want to spoil the story for you. Then there’s also a mysterious ‘Monsieur’ who seems to want to help Renée and her friends and I desperately wanted to know who he really was.

The story is mainly set in Europe, which I loved of course, since I live in Europe and it was nice to read about great cities such as Paris for example. I also loved the whole mystery aspect of the story because I wanted to find out where the Netherworld was, along with the main characters. I really wanted Renée and Dante to find a way to finally be together because they’re such a great and romantic couple. There were many obstacles standing in their way and I just wanted them to be safe and to get a real chance at love and life.

And I must say that I am really happy with the way Love Reborn ended, although I am a little sad that this trilogy is over now because I really love these books as the idea of the story is just fascinating and creepy at the same time.

All in all Love Reborn was as great as the first two books in this beautiful trilogy because it was full of suspense, great protagonists, mystery, sacrifice and love.

For Yvonne Woon, Love Reborn is terrible. I won't joke about this. Love Reborn is worse than the two books before it. Actually, the second book is probably the best. The first is the worst. The last installment wasn't the best of Woon's works.

There's dead people, of course. Dante is dead. Or undead, whatever you call it. Noah is dead/undead. Really, most of the dead are undeads. Zombies, for those of you who never read this trilogy. The undead of this book is zombies. But they are fairly close to human beings. They were human before they died.

Anyway, Love Reborn is a fast-paced book, which is a point towards Woon. (Sorry, if I make a mistake in the author's name). Everything turns out very nicely in the end, so Love Reborn is basically a happy ending book. But that isn't the subject of my concern over this zombie/soul/paranormal/supernatural book. It's the Monsieur plotline.

Monsieur is a man who is sending Renee and Dante, among several other people like Renee's grandfather, secret notes. He tells them of the undead's movements and the Monitors' movements. He's the one who is warning them before danger arrives. It's very strange, I'll admit. I won't tell you who Monsieur is, but I will say that the true identity of Monsieur doesn't fit very nicely with the rest of the story. I keep on turning that idea in my head, but that person doesn't fit the image of Monsieur. I just don't see it. I feel like it's more of a random snip and paste made by the author. It was as if the author was simply trying to cover that boo-boo up.

It's sure is a haunting story of sacrifice, loyalty, and a love that can never die (synopsis' words). The sacrifice was the senses. The loyalty was between friends and lovers. The love that can never die is much more general. You can say it was the love between Renee and her parents. Or Renee and her grandfather. The love between her boyfriend and Renee. There's tons of it. So many possibilities the author is pointing to.

Character development wasn't part of the story. It was more of an action story. Sort of like James Bond and his not so three-dimensional character. Unless you consider love part of character development. I guess you do.

Overall, I think this series was great. Read first and second book, screw the third.
