In a Nutshell: A historical mystery with shades of romance, timeslip, and Christian content. The fifth book of the Timeless series. As always, impeccable plotting, mind-blowing research, amazing interlinking of the two timelines. A couple of things could have worked better for me, but overall, this is fabulous. Much recommended. Can be read as a standalone, but the whole series is brilliant, so you might as well read all the books!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Plot Preview:
Twenty-three-year-old Kathryn lives two lives simultaneously in two different time periods. (Read the earlier Timeless books to know how this works.)
In 1938 London, Kathryn is a guest curator at the Smithsonian Museum, invited to create an exhibit on Jack the Ripper. During her research, she learns that one of her loved ones from her life in 1888 London is destined to be the target of the infamous killer. Now Kathryn is racing against time, using her hindsight knowledge from 1938 to save her relative from certain death in 1888. As a time-crosser, she knows that fiddling with history isn't allowed. But surely she can’t allow someone beloved to be killed so brutally!
The story comes to us from the first-person perspective of Kathryn in both timelines.
2025 hasn’t been a great year for the ongoing series books on my TBR. I read many subsequent books from some of my favourite series, and each of them tanked miserably. But as you can see from my rating, Gabrielle Meyer has lived up to my expectations yet again. (This is not an easy task because my expectations from her books are sky-high.) During a year where everything is going topsy-turvy, whether in my personal life or in the world at large, it is good to know that I can always rely upon her to deliver as promised.
Bookish Yays:
🕰️ The concept. I will never tire of praising this imaginative idea of a character having two bodies but one consciousness across two distinct timelines. So, so clever!
🕰️ Though the basic concept is the same in all Timeless books, each novel has something that makes it stand apart from the rest. This time, the time gap between Kathryn’s two lives is the least so far in the series, with just fifty years separating her two selves. If you know the earlier books, you know why this is a major complication. Plus, both the timelines are in London, offering a nice change from the usual American setting.
🕰️ The medley of genres: historical fiction, timeslip, Christian, mystery, romance. All fitting together perfectly.
🕰️ Unlike the earlier books, this one works almost like a thriller at times because for the first time, an active killer is a part of the Timeless storyline. Many scenes gave ‘The Da Vinci Code’ feels, albeit without the ciphers.
🕰️ Some excellent surprises and twists in both timelines.
🕰️ The plotting. Gabrielle Meyer is a plotter extraordinaire, and every single novel of hers demonstrates this prowess. I simply love the way she brings everything together by the end in a seamless harmony, even though her storylines are so tricky!
🕰️ The two timelines – so disconnected and yet so similar in emotions. With Jack the Ripper in one and the cusp of WWII in the other, both timelines contain enough suspense, danger, and apprehension.
🕰️ The impeccable historical research, with several facts that left me rushing to Google to learn more. Historical fiction is my favourite genre because of such smart books.
🕰️ The pacing: mostly fast and barely any rambling despite two first-person narratives.
🕰️ Just as in Timeless #3, we know right at the start which timeline Kathryn prefers. But this doesn’t make the proceedings boring or predictable as there are certain “complications” in the other timeline. I could still guess where Kathryn would end up, but seeing the hows of it was fun.
🕰️ This book goes back to the original family tree beginning with Libby in Timeless #1. I loved seeing Grace and Luc from Timeless #3 get a good role in this book. (For those who have read the earlier books of the series and are a bit confused about the character interconnections, the author has created this handy family tree on her website.)
🕰️ For the first time, the romance is diluted, with there being none of it in one timeline. The other one has a developing relationship but it is not insta, and it is used to move the main plot ahead instead of superseding the core focus.
🕰️ The Christian elements were totally of my kind, with greater stress on trusting in God and on having heartfelt conversations with Him instead of just tossing in biblical verses at regular intervals.
🕰️ The ending. I am just so impressed at how the author carried it off! It is the best ending so far in the series.
🕰️ The author’s note, detailing her historical research and also clarifying the factual and fictional writing choices she made. As brilliant as always!
Bookish Mixed Bags:
⏱️ The initial quarter or so was a little shaky for me. With there being too much secret-keeping in the older timeline, I felt as frustrated as Kathryn. I was even worried that this book might dip below 4 stars because I dislike the tropes of excessive miscommunication and secrecy. But the reasons for the secret-keeping are justified well in the second half, and the rest of the book is mindblowing.
⏱️ For the first time ever, I was not a big fan of the lead. Kathryn is a strong character, but she is also too wilful and impulsive (and at times, surprisingly naïve for her age.) Her character arc feels repetitive after a point as it seemed to constantly loop between her promising that she wouldn’t do something and then doing it. Not every historical lead has to be pliant and submissive and I do understand her emotional conflicts, but I do wish the repetitiveness of Kathryn’s actions and reactions had been avoided.
All in all, my complaints get almost washed out by my enthusiasm for the positives. The second half was so outstanding that I forgot all the complaints I had at the start.
This is one of my favourite series, with four of the five books earning 4.5 stars from me. Initially an annual offering, Timeless has two books coming out in 2025. The sixth book, ‘Through Each Tomorrow’ will be published in November, and I can't wait to get my hands on it! The final chapter of Timeless #5 includes a teeny hint about the central character of the sixth novel, and while I am a bit disappointed that I already know the character’s outcome, I am also very excited to get to know them better. My digital copy did include an excerpt from #6, but as soon as I saw it, I quickly closed my eyes and my Kindle. Excerpts aren’t for me!
Much recommended to historical fiction fans who don’t mind Christian elements. This book can be read as a standalone, but you will get some spoilers about the characters and their timelines in the first four novels. All the Timeless books are wonderful anyway, so just go for the whole series.
4.5 stars, delighted to round up.
My thanks to author Gabrielle Meyer and Bethany House for providing the DRC of “Every Hour Until Then” via NetGalley. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
Wow! Just wow! Absolutely fantastic! This is the fifth book in the series and I would say it is by far the best sequel of the series! From the very first chapter, I was completely sucked in and finished reading within a day. I did take a two hour break due to the intensity and suspense of the Jack the Ripper content. But I was eager to return to reading! The writing is so engaging and beautifully written. I loved the main character, Kathryn. Although I did yell at her a few times to stop being so dangerous! She was making me so nervous and I loved it, haha! This is the closest the two timelines have ever been 1888 and 1938. In both timelines, there is a focus on Jack the Ripper. In 1888, Jack the Ripper is going on his killing spree. So there is a danger for Kathryn. In 1938, she is helping with a Jack the Ripper exhibit and gets some “future” information for her 1888 life. And that her sister is listed as Jack’s final victim. She enlists the help of her friend and neighbor, Austen in searching for her sister in hopes to save her from that fate. This story is full of great suspenseful moments, mystery and a little romance. It also has great Christian content. And of course, twists and surprises that I did not see coming! Overall a fantastic read and I definitely recommend!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Content: this story focuses on Jack the Ripper and his victims, there are details about their gruesome deaths so keep that in mind.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Rating: All the stars!
Gabrielle Meyer has done it again. Every Hour Until Then is the fifth installment in her Timeless series, and somehow, each book manages to outshine the last. I didn’t think it was possible to love this series more, but Kathryn’s story absolutely gripped me from the very beginning.
Meyer weaves an incredibly suspenseful narrative as Kathryn navigates her dual timelines, and I was on the edge of my seat trying to piece together the mystery of Jack the Ripper alongside her. The historical elements were vivid and immersive, and I loved how the author tackled so many of the existing theories surrounding the infamous killer. It felt smart, fresh, and genuinely chilling.
As always, the emotional stakes were high, and I was torn right alongside Kathryn as she faced impossible choices about who she is, what she believes in, and which life she’s meant to choose.
This series is time-slip historical fiction at its absolute finest. If you haven’t started it yet, bump it to the top of your TBR. You’ll thank me later
“You’ve always been my greatest adventure, Kate.”
All the stars!!! Every Hour Until Then is a new favorite, thrilling, time slip adventure in the Timeless series. Gabrielle Meyer delivers a fascinating, history infused, heart achingly lovely, forbidden, friends to more romance with spine tingling suspense, & a touch of faith. Set in 1888, England during the horrific Jack the Ripper murders & 1938 in the lead up to WWII, this book kept me enthralled as one woman tries to save her sister from being the 5th victim of history’s most notorious killer.
Kathryn Kelly’s a time crosser with two different lives. One morning she wakes up in 1888, London & the next in 1938, Washington D.C. In 1888, her beloved sister Mary discovers a terrible secret & forced to leave their parents’ home without explanation. Vowing to find her sister & the secret, she discovers a heart-wrenching truth.
In 1938, Kate eagerly accepts the invitation to be a guest curator at the London Museum. It’s the 50th anniversary of the Ripper murders & the museum is featuring a groundbreaking exhibit. As Kate researches, she discovers a shocking fact, her sister Mary is Jack’s fifth victim. Determined to change history & prevent her sister’s murder, she enlists her best friend Austen’s help in 1888. But changing history comes with a cost, she’ll forfeit her life in 1888. Can she defeat a diabolical killer & change the past?
I loved this story! Told with gripping historical detail, it was impossible to put down. I’ve always been fascinated by Jack the Ripper & read endless theories as to who he was. I loved this author’s spin on his identity. The pulse pounding story kept me on my toes with a twist at the end I didn’t see coming. There were several suspects I had my eye on & wow was I surprised!
Kate’s & Austen’s romance was heart achingly lovely. She’s told Austen she’ll choose 1938 when the time comes, but that doesn’t prevent love from blossoming. Their first kiss is both terrifying & thrilling!
I loved seeing familiar faces again & can’t wait for the next adventure. Highly recommend this not to miss story! Please note there are factual descriptions of Jack the Ripper’s murders which sensitive readers might want to be aware of. I received an advanced copy from the author & publisher with no expectation of a positive review & also purchased the audiobook from Audible. All opinions are completely my own & voluntarily provided.
Historical Fiction/ Time Travel
“We might make plans, but God is the one who determines our steps. His plans are far better than ours.” “You’ve always liked to make plans, so your mind was made up,” Papa said. “Sometimes, plans need to be flexible to see what God wants for us.”
This has been my favorite of the Timeless series so far! So many cool historical themes in this one. Jack the Ripper, Hitler/Nazis, conspiracy, and the secrets of the Freemasons - it was a lot to unpack, and get lost in! I loved Austin and Kate , I was on pins and needles the more I read because the mystery was so good!! The faith content fits so perfectly throughout and I am just so impressed with this authors ability to weave all these exciting stories together. I can’t wait for the next book to come out. If you are looking for a good historical fiction series that will keep you flipping the pages, I can’t recommend this series enough!!
gabrielle meyer has done it again!!! i feel like i say this every time but it’s so true!! every hour until then is another stunning, emotional, and brilliant installment in the timeless series and all i can say is wow. i flew through this book with my heart in my throat, completely swept up in the intertwined timelines of 1938 and 1888. the way those two years mirrored and collided was absolutely genius and the twists had me gasping out loud. meyer has such a gift for weaving together history, suspense, and deep emotion in a way that completely wrecks you…in the best possible way, of course!! i love how these stories stress me out but somehow they always land perfectly, leaving me full of hope and awe.
the romance was everything. it’s pretty obvious but i just loved how it was sacrificial and tender. i adored austen and the way he supported kathryn, even when it cost him deeply. their relationship had me in tears more than once. kathryn’s faith journey was so moving. watching her come to the end of herself and lean on God was powerful and beautifully written. and let’s talk about the jack the ripper storyline. it was so masterfully done, with rich historical detail that added so much depth and tension. meyer balanced it all flawlessly. this series is something special, and i honestly can’t recommend it enough.
“God is sovereign. Even when we don't understand, He allows certain things to happen for His purposes. When we say we know better, then it means we don't believe He is sovereign or just, that His will is not as perfect as our own--and that's a dangerous game to play.”
Meyer has once again delivered a story with a gripping plot that makes it impossible to just sit down and casually read a few pages. No, you're invested--and if you're anything like me, you read half the book in one sitting.
I loved how different this plot was from the other books in the Timeless series, yet how it stayed true in its similarity to the foundational elements that makes up this book series. The historical inclusion of Jack the Ripper, the mystery/suspense elements, and the questions of rewriting history through time travel are unmatched. I love when a book makes me think, and this one did just that--because if you knew something bad was going to happen to someone you love, but saving them meant losing everything you loved, what would you do?
You'll have to read to find out ;)
Every Hour Until Then ~ Book Review 🗡️🏛️
First and foremost, I want to thank this book and its author for pulling me out of a serious reading slump. Lately, I haven’t been able to find a novel that could truly capture my hyperactive mind—until this one. From the very first chapter, I was hooked, and I didn’t stop until I finished it within 24 hours. I simply couldn’t put it down.
The plot?! Can we talk about the plot? I fear we must. This story is a gripping, plot-driven thrill ride. We follow our dear protagonist, Kathryn, who exists in two timelines: 1888 and 1938—two of my all-time favorite historical settings (but more on that in a moment). In 1888, Kathryn is the daughter of a prominent Victorian family, a family that is concealing secrets that could alter the course of history. Fast-forward to 1938, she’s working in Washington, D.C. during the lead-up to World War II as a curator at the Smithsonian Museum. She's invited to the London Museum to guest-curate an exhibit on Jack the Ripper. While working on it, she discovers that her own sister in 1888 would be the final victim of the infamous killer.
With time literally working against her, Kathryn teams up with a childhood friend from 1888 to uncover her family’s hidden past and stop her sister’s murder by attempting to unmasking Jack the Ripper. But can she truly change what’s already been written into history?
My only critique is that some plot elements near the end veered a bit into the fantastical—which, while fitting for fiction—slightly detracted from the historical aspects of the Jack the Ripper storyline, at least in my personal opinion.
However, as someone who has always been drawn to both the Victorian era and World War II narratives, I felt like this story was tailor-made for me. I’ve always been fascinated with Jack the Ripper history and I found the tie into Freemasonry in the plot to be truly interesting. This book encapsulated some of my favorite historical events in a mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat. I’ve enjoyed every book in the Timeless series, but this one stands out by far—it’s my favorite yet.
I have been rendered speechless! Dumbfounded. Left in complete awe. Questioning—how in the world Gabrielle Meyer can continue bringing us story after mind boggling story? I am truly amazed at her sheer brilliance and seemingly effortless ability to untangled the complex and complicated tangled web she weaves. It’s pure genius. Like Tony Stark-Albert Einstein level genius.
Every Hour Until Then was absolutely fascinating and addictive. The more pages I read, the faster I tried to reach the end, while hoping it would never conclude. With the storyline centering around the diabolical and mysterious Jack the Ripper, the mood was eerie, frantic, and nail biting. I was captivated by the case, the victims, the Freemasons, and how Kathryn’s two paths played out. Each part of the plot coming together seamlessly. I was anxious, surprised, overcome, and overjoyed. I cried shamelessly for far too long from the beautiful culmination of each precious moment. Thinking of how wonderful it would be if the impossible was possible and our hearts could experience such fantastical things.
Hands down my new favorite of the series. I don’t see how it could get any better than this. But Gabrielle always brings her “A” game and continues to shatter my expectations each and every time.
Bravo Mrs. Meyer!
OH THIS BOOK.
BLOG || INSTAGRAM || TIKTOK
I admit that this took me a little to get into but that ending?? The romance?? Got me in the FEEEELS. Now, it does seem a little insta-ish, but let it grow on you!! Trust the journey y’all.
My historical nerd self went down many a Jack the Ripper research hole after finishing this book. I love historical books that make me want to research. And I love reading historicals that cover different time periods than I generally come across.
And I adored the FMC, Kate. She was strong willed and learning but always seemed to genuinely be trying to take the next right step and I loved her courage. There were many good twists to the plot that ramped up my engagement as the pages moved. I also really adored the romance. It brought the swoon and the passion and the I would do anything to see you happy vibes that I am all over. We love a a man DOWN BAD.
I think this is easily one of my favorites of this whole series now and I have loved seeing the crossing timelines, family trees and all of the touches of faith too. What an incredible book.
Overall audience notes:
- Christian Historical Time Travel Romance
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses
- Violence: moderate
- Content Warnings: murder (off page but crime scenes are detailed), weapons violence, kidnapping
Wow! This is a book I absolutely could not put down. I went into it partially blind—I knew it had something to do with Jack the Ripper and his heinous crimes, but I didn’t know many details. Not too far in, I had to pause and read the synopsis on the back cover. 🙈
The vibes in this book are so different from the rest of the series. I love a good thriller—not too gruesome or scary, but just enough—and this book really fit the bill. Another interesting aspect was Kathryn’s two timelines were only 50 years apart— the closest timeline we’ve seen yet. I won’t give anything away but it really made for some interesting scenarios!!
I’d describe it as a fast paced, page-turner with dark twists and deep secrets involving a high-society cover-up. I loved it! I had no idea how the ending would turn out. I was genuinely surprised to see how it unfolded and to learn who the real culprit was.
As always, there’s a dash of romance, and I particularly loved this book’s couple. This is by far my favorite in the series.
✨ Don’t miss the author’s note—it’s incredibly interesting!
📝 This book is best read in order with the series. It references previous characters and plots. It could technically be stand alone but may be a bit confusing in parts.
⚠️ Content: Murder, mild to medium descriptions of gruesome murders/mutilations, discussions of prostitution, kidnapping. Closed-door romance; some descriptive kisses. Christian themes and message woven throughout.
Thank you to @austenprose for gifting me a copy of the book in exchange for my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I read about 60 percent of this book in one sitting, it was so good. I found myself thinking about the story and characters when I wasn’t reading the book. The romance was top tier and perfect, and I was giddy with delight when they would share even the smallest moment together. I have a difficult time picking which book in this series is my favorite because they are all so different, but this is a contender for the top spot.
I finished reading an ARC of Every Hour Until Then a few hours ago and have been scrolling through the 2000 plus books on my kindle trying to decide what to read next. Unfortunately after reading Every Hour, nothing else is appealing to me. I absolutely loved kathryn in both of her timelines! She is a fantastic lady and I enjoyed all of her adventures in both 1888 and 1938. With every one of Gabrielle Meyer's Timeless books I think that she can't do any better, then comes the next book proving me wrong! As much as I enjoyed this book, I am happy to say Through Each Tomorrow will be releasing November 4th. I can't wait to read Charles' story!
My advice to you is to pre-order your copy of Every Hour Until Then due out Tuesday May 20th and schedule PTO so you can stalk the mailbox and enjoy the story!
Every dang time 😭🥹🩷 it’s no secret the Timeless series is a series I talk about to absolutely everyone and their dog, and how it’s probably my favorite series ever.
Gabrielle does it again. I started reading it last night, and I decided to very reluctantly get sleep, but my body told me (with a lot of adrenaline) at 6am that it was time to get up and read 🤣
First of all, Austen is SWOONY. The YEARNING. I’m here for a yearning MMC. I only want yearning men in my books.
Secondly, truthfully I was a little nervous about the Jack-the-Ripper storyline. I’m not a fan of gruesome movies and the like, so I wondered if it would be too thriller-y for me. I only had to skip a couple of paragraphs that had a bit too many details for me (yes I’m a wimp), but everything else was totally fine. I think Gabrielle did such a wonderful job tying in the history and just the whole plot was so beautifully orchestrated, so well thought out. I don’t know how she does it!
Thirdly, I loved what it did to my heart. I needed to hear some of the words in this book right now. It’s a theme I’ve noticed in every one of the Timeless series, which I particularly appreciate — I love specifically seeing how God orchestrates things differently and better than we imagine. This book reminded me of that in this season when I desperately needed that reminder. I needed that injection of hope. I feel like it was written specifically for me.
All in all, I never want this series to end! 😭🫶🏼🩷
Every time I start one of Gabrielle Meyer's Timeless books, I'm nervous. I keep thinking that "there's no way she can make this one as good as the others." And each time I'm proven wrong. However, I think this is the first one that made me cry.
This book had my attention from the first page. Anything with Jack the Ripper in it is bound to be riveting. And if you add in some conspiracy theories, well, that makes this tinfoil suit-wearing reader's heart sing.
Not to mention that there's only 50 years separating her two paths! That in and of itself kind of had me on edge.
That's pretty much all I'll say about this book because if you know anything about the Timeless series, these novels are filled with unknowns. So. You know your assignment: read the book.
Is it possible that I liked it even better the second time?!?!
Here is my review from last time:
I loved this book! Possibly my favorite in the series. (And that is saying a lot) It was so interesting the way she tied the history of both times together. Also this didn't bother me because I'm not that sensitive to that stuff, but the book is about jack the ripper, and it describes a little bit about what he did to his victims. 14+ Katheryn is such an amazing character to follow with great character development. I would highly recommend this book!
If anyone can seamlessly weave multiple historical timelines together, it would be Gabrielle Meyer. I loved this fifth book in the Timeless series and the inventive challenges that the author continues to deliver by having readers puzzle out countless scenarios that could arise in time-crossing. This is the first instance we come across where a time-crosser could theoretically meet themself in a different era, creating a fascinating and positively brilliant setup for our historian and curator, Kathryn. I love her indomitable spirit and how fiercely she loves and cares for her family members. Though headstrong and independent, I appreciate that she comes across so real and vibrant, practically leaping off the pages. If anything, her act first, think second nature allows readers to see what trusting in God looks like for her, especially if we are prone to the same tendencies.
This flawless execution of how Jack the Ripper affects Kathryn in both timelines is compelling and speaks to the fear that pervaded the streets of London during a horrific period of time. I am thankful that the messages of faith strongly counteract these gruesome acts, indicating that even during a nation's darkest moments, God is still at work. Leading into the Second World War, this message is even more poignant. Readers who have been along for the Timeless ride will find that as new plot lines are introduced with seemingly gaping holes that there is enough suspense, action, and mystery to carry readers through complex answers that both indulge and complete the characters' adventure in this deeply spiritual story about God’s power and supremacy.
4.5 stars - I flew through this book! I love suspense, mystery, and true crime so this brought a really fun twist to the Timeless series. I am especially intrigued with Jack the Ripper so this checked all the boxes for me. I felt the romance took a bit of a backseat at the beginning, but it was okay because the suspense and new (to me) Jack the Ripper theory kept me engaged. As it went along, I came to enjoy the sweet romance. The time periods weaved together seamlessly!
Five stars every time! Do I have to wait for November for the next one?!
The twist in this one sneaked up on me, and TOOK. ME. OUT!!!
Interestingly enough, there was only one romantic interest this time, but that didnt take away from the tension as there was only fifty years between time periods this time which definitely added complications and complexities.
As always, there was a central focus on God's absolute and perfect timing and our desire as humans to rush it. There was also a focus on the importance of family and the lengths we go for them.
It was also a great time seeing Grace and Luc again from book 3.
I had a great time, and look forward to book 6!!
“There truly was a season for everything, and His timing was perfect.”
I cannot possibly form adequate words to express how deeply I love this Timeless series, and with each new book I grow more in awe of Gabrielle Meyer’s talent for putting fresh twists on the time-crossing theme. I can’t even pick a favorite because they’re each my favorites, but if I had to narrow it down to just one, Every Hour Until Then would be a very strong contender. And my review won’t nearly do it justice – let’s get that out of the way upfront – because there’s a lot I can’t even hint at without spoiling some key plot turns. But trust me… you’ll be on the edge of your seat, fully immersed in this story and all its brilliant twists from beginning to end.
“You’re the greatest adventure of my life.”
Every Hour Until Then follows time-crosser Kathryn back-and-forth between her two simultaneous paths. If you’re not familiar with this series and the time-crosser ‘rules’, when she goes to sleep after midnight in her 1888 life she wakes up in her 1938 life with no time having passed while she was in the other era, and vice versa. She must decide which timeline she’ll remain in by a specific birthday – in Kathryn’s case, by her 25th – and forfeit the other one (and her loved ones there) forever. But if she changes history in one of the timelines, she’ll immediately forfeit that path and possibly the other too. That’s the basics anyway, but like I said Gabrielle Meyer finds a way to keep each story unique and surprising even within these guidelines. And this one is SO GOOD, y’all.
“I had to surrender to God’s plan. I wasn’t sure what it was, or how it would work, but I was at the end of my own abilities.”
One of the things I loved about Every Hour Until Then is that, not only do both timelines involve Kathryn investigating the murders of Jack the Ripper (a true crime mystery that has long piqued my sleuthing interests as well), but Meyer also gives Kathryn a deeply personal reason to be so invested in the case in each path: the life of her sister. And wow. Between that compelling plot point and the agonizingly-swoony-but-also-maybe-heartbreaking romance storyline, I was SO tempted to skip ahead and read the end to find out how it all turned out. I hardly ever do that because I love experiencing the discovery as the author intended it to unfold… and I behaved myself this time too… but ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I thought my heart was going to just explode from the need for it all to be okay. As the book reached its brilliantly-written conclusion though, I was reminded of what I should have held fast all along – that this author can be trusted to deliver a beautifully perfect ending, no matter whether it’s what I initially hoped or not. And, more importantly, I was reminded how the Author of my story can always be trusted to do the same.
Bottom Line: Every Hour Until Then by Gabrielle Meyer drew me immediately into this compelling story and kept me riveted until the very last word. The ‘Jack the Ripper’ theme adds an element of mystery and suspense to the already fascinating time-crossing layers, and the fact that Kathryn’s two paths are only fifty years apart provided further intriguing considerations that aren’t possible in the other books. I was so immersed and invested in the theories, in Kathryn’s impossible choices and complicated emotions, in the KISSES, in the twists that I couldn’t have stopped reading if my life had depended on it. I highly recommend that you stop what you’re doing and read every book in this series right now because they’re all so amazingly plotted with such touching faith threads too. And the little embedded hints I may have discovered for the next book have me already impatient for November. I am obsessed with this series, and Every Hour Until Then is another truly remarkable story that’s impossible to put down!
Every Hour Until Then by Gabrielle Meyer held my attention from the beginning. There were lots of plot twists, in part because it was centered around the heinous murders by Jack the Ripper and the protagonista’s quest to uncover his true identity. I learned a lot about this sad murder spree. The story included some conspiracy ideas and leaned into one particular theory. I felt all the suspense and surprise at Jack’s (fictional) identity. I appreciated the author’s note which clarified certain fictional elements.
Aside from the mystery and danger, Every Hour Until Then held a friends-to-lovers romance. Because Kathryn and Austen were childhood friends, they had issues to overcome but a shared history that bound them together. I loved it even though the romance thread felt secondary to Kathryn’s pursuit of Jack the Ripper and her beloved sister’s safety.
Every Hour Until Then by Gabrielle Meyer stands as book five in the Timeless series and I felt it was a richer read because I had read the prior books in the series. It might not be my absolute favorite of them all, but it was very good. 4.5 Stars!
Wow! These books just absolutely leave me breathless! The suspense and the reveals in this installment are superb. Buckle up for an excellent twist, one that I didn’t see coming at all. I always appreciate the intricate details and plot threads that come together over the course of the novel and in true fashion these are exquisitely done in Every Hour Until Then. The ending of this one brought me to happy tears. The romance is touching and beautiful, the action is gripping, and the plot twists are chef’s kiss. Highly highly recommend!
Synopsis: Kathryn lives in two different time periods—1888 and 1938. As a museum curator in 1938, Kathryn is tasked with working on a Jack the Ripper exhibit and soon discovers her sister’s name as the final victim in 1888. Kathryn knows the rules of time crossing: if she knowingly changes history, she forfeits that path. But she can’t just stand aside and watch her sister be murdered. If Kathryn discovers who this mysterious murderer is, she might be able to save her sister, but she may lose the man she loves. As secrets unfold, Kathryn finds herself in a race against time and faced with a heartbreaking choice: save her beloved sister or stay with the love of her life?
Analysis: Historical fiction meets suspense meets mystery in the 5th book in the Timeless Series, and I am here for it! Gabrielle is a mastermind and master storyteller. Somehow each book in this series gets more fascinating! This book has a different feel to it compared to the others in the series due to the sinister nature of Jack’s history, but the storyline is gripping! It still has the compelling characters that we’ve all come to know and love in Gabrielle’s writing. The romance is a sweet, slow-burn that you’ll be falling for right alongside the main characters, and the plot in this book takes the time crossing to a whole new level! I loved learning more about the rules of this gift. And the suspense/mystery?! There are twists and turns right until the very end! You’ll want to set aside 24 hours to binge this book because you won’t be able to put it down. Obviously, I’ve loved all the Timeless books, but this may be my favorite one yet! I can’t wait to see what Gabrielle writes next!
OVERALL STAR RATING: 6/5
CLEAN RATING: 5/5
Book five in the Timeless Series and once again an absolutely mind blowing and stunning work of fiction! COULD NOT put this down. Read it within 24 hours and passed along to my hubby who is now blowing through it as well. If you’re even remotely interested in historical fiction and haven’t yet picked up this series – stop what you’re doing right now and START! These plots are so unique and exciting. A truly gifted author that everyone needs to experience.
As soon as I found out that this book was going to involve Jack the Ripper, I knew it would likely be more suspenseful than the other books. Boy oh boy was it a crazy ride! On top of that, we have the uniqueness of the time crosser’s paths only being 50 years apart which adds a whole other layer of intrigue to this story.
Our FMC, Kathryn, lives two lives – she wakes up in Victorian-era London in 1888, goes to sleep and wakes up in 1938 WWII era Washington, DC. This is the unique gift that she’s been given as a time-crosser. In her 1938 path she’s hired to create a museum exhibit on Jack the Ripper. It’s then she discovers that his fifth and final victim was her very own sister back in 1888.
With the help of her friend, Austen, Kathryn must decide whether to interfere with history and try and stop the murder. Changing history as a time-crosser comes with serious risks, however. Not to mention, stepping into the path of Jack the Ripper is risky itself. There are big decisions to be made and Austen’s romantic interest in Kathryn adds another element to this story that will just make you feel so deeply for the characters and the situation they’re in.
Absolutely incredible elements of faith in this book. Trusting in God is key for all of us, and this story is a great reminder of that. Can’t say too much without giving away the surprises that will make your jaw drop with each turn of a page. Read it, love it, thank me later.
I forgot to review this book and of course it was a wonderful read. We follow Katherine and her living in 2 timelines in the late 1800's and in the timeline of 1938. We f0llow her and her trying to save her sister from Jack the Ripper. Her sister is suppose to be murdered by Jack and if she changes that timeline she can't fall in love with Austen in the 18oo's. What will she do? Will she find who Jack the Ripper actually is and why there are the murders? Great read and fun twist to the old story of Jack the Ripper. It had me on the edge of my seat throughout the wonderful story. Gabrielle Meyer is an amazing author and has me wanting to read more from her!! 4 stars!!!! Read this series and you won't be disappointed!!!
