rainyfeathers Did you happen to do a rewrite to correct the badly researched flaws in this book? Such as the age of consent in MA in the 90's is 18 and that the Prof committed a felony rape? Also the drinking age in NY has been 21 since 1985.

Please tell me you also managed to learn how to do some proper research and incorporate in your writing? Did you also learn to show not tell?

Caren Hi Rainyfeathers. Carrie is indeed a victim, and at 19 she doesn't realize it. Probably later in life, she would know that what the prof did was wrong instead of romanticizing it. I refer to neither the age of consent nor the drinking age in the book, from what I can recall, so I didn't get those wrong. Unfortunately, some teenagers flout those rules, as they do in the book. Thanks for adding to the dialogue, and sorry you had to suffer through the novel. ;) I'm quite aware it's not for everyone. Maybe you'll like my future efforts, maybe you won't, but I appreciate that you took the time to write! - Caren

rainyfeathers Thanks for replying. Honestly, I wasn't expecting you to reply but I'm glad you did.

I am reading the book again (I'm only halfway so forgive me if I get something wrong) but her therapist really isn't dealing with the whole felony rape situation. I think therapist have to report that kind of crime (not sure and I will double check with the therapists I do know). That situation really bothers me. In a way I guess that is a good thing because any reaction from a reader means you are reaching them.

You didn't mention what the drinking age is but you did mention she is 19 and looks kinda young. Sure teenagers flout the rules sometimes but she should be getting carded at restuarnts and when buying it in stores. Or you could have mention that she had a fake id or something. I'm surpised that the waiter didn't say anything to the prof about her drinking especially, since she looks so young. I still get carded, heck I got carded in Vegas (when I was 31).

For me it was just a few things that were unrealistic that pulled me out of the story. Plus, I really didn't like Carrie. However, I know it is a first novel. I don't have to like every book an author writes (some of my favorite authors have a few books that I just can't get into) but I do try to be fair. I have put one of your other books on my to buy list and I will review it once I read it.

Caren You make some good points. It's fine to not like her and not like the book; there are others who share the opinion. There's a lot of stuff I read that I don't like, even best sellers. I don't think you'll like my other book any better, but maybe someday I'll publish something new that you will like. I'm working on it...we shall see! Maybe you might like some of the essay-type stuff on my website, carenlissner.com.

You are lucky that you got carded in Vegas!

Thanks for reading.
