Really?

It is nice to see such wonderful light on here after that rancid attack of darkness. I love the cat pictures! My cats are set up by the woodstove as we are in Maine :) It is sad to see such a great discussion turn into a stream of insults thrown all over the place. I left last night, as the toxicity level was just too much. I woke up this morning to find it a much brighter place.

A book is an escape for most people and reading a passion. Most read a book to gain information or to be taken away to a time or a place they have never been or would like to go. I could go on with that. Reading should be a pleasurable thing. Reading is entertainment. This site was probably created to bring that joy to a large number of people. The site should be a place to gain friendships over their joy of reading. A place to share wonderful books they have read, a place to connect with the authors who wrote those books.

However, lately on this site, a small group of authors and their cronies has decided to use this site as a game. I have seen the attacks of both authors and reviewers alike on here. These people thrive on discrediting anyone in their path. It is sad but true. I would like others who have been victims at some point or other just to know that it is obviously not personal. Yet, it becomes personal when the victim author or reviewer defends himself or herself and then the pack attacks in full fury seeking to destroy the reputation and credibility of the victim on such a public forum. Yes, this has gone too far-when writers are afraid to write and have lost their drive over this. When reviewers no longer want to write their own heartfelt comments on what they have read. Those of you on here have seen this disintegration and it is sad.

It is one thing to comment or give constructive criticism-it is another when insults towards that person are hurled about with such fury seeking only to hurt. It is childish and, well…Pathetic! People do have a right to defend themselves-absolutely (writers and reviewers). It turns personal when the insults are flung-which are rampant now. I have seen two other authors and a reviewer attacked on my two blogs alone. Seriously, I just want people to be aware of what is going on.

I do not believe in adding fuel to the fire of their insults as it is only stooping to their level. I will not attack people or jump to any bait thrown out. I will not respond to inquiries when that person has insulted ANYONE! If you are being attacked, just ignore them. That is the best advice I have seen so far. They are only making themselves look worse as their comments are flung about with their cronies in tow. Really! They want you to insult them for attacking you. They take your words and twist them into further crap to be used against you. That seems to be their game for the most part, as I have only recently observed. Then if you ignore them or defend yourself-they go after the books of the authors, add “one star” reviews, and put you on “scary lists” to further “discredit” you. It is one thing to have read a book and not to like it. Trust me, I have no issue with bad reviews,-whatever….I do not like every book I have read. No biggie… But to add “one star” reviews because your friend does not like it and you want to add drama. Really? Grow up! So, please, if you have read my book and would like to talk about it-I would LOVE that. I feel honored that you have taken the time and would like to discuss it. Absolutely! But, if you want to insult me as a writer or any of the reviews I have done, I honestly have much better things to do with my time than to dwell on the negative. Constructive criticism-please do! I appreciate and welcome this as I have taken advice in the past and it has helped. It is the bashing, twisting of words and leading people into traps that are simply appalling to me, and I will not encourage nor participate in at all.

Therefore, if I do not respond to your question, it is probably because I had gone through and found you insulting someone. I am a busy woman and do not have the time nor interest to add fuel to the negativity out there. However, I love to discuss books and welcome any conversations pertaining to such that are NOT toxic.

As for the other victims out there….If you do not want to even deal with them at all-just ignore or block anything they put forth. As for myself, I will be watching them and will follow them towards their next attacks. I will help their next victims. Do not worry-I believe in fighting negativity with positive, as I do not believe in spreading toxicity. I just want to clean up their messes they seem to be leaving everywhere. People should realize that this is not personal and to ignore them as I have mentioned. When you feed them ANYTHING-they twist it against you and their game is won by damaging a person’s reputation and deflating them. This needs to stop. It is just not right in hurting anyone to the point where they can no longer write or go on this site. This should be a positive experience for both the reader and the writer!
