“determined not to allow her grandchildren to have anything she ever had.  Charlie would tell Mama that Mr. and Mrs. Hobbs had nothing against her, though.  That was either a lie, or he was badly mistaken.  He was convinced that if he got rid of all of the Williams children that the Hobbses would just make him a partner in the bathhouse business and let Mama have half of her rightful part of it.  They had promised to also set up trust funds for him and all of his children -- even any unborn ones -- and Mama somehow believed him.  How could anyone be that blind?  All I can say is Charlie’s mind was clouded by greed and alcohol.  I cannot begin to explain Mama’s issues, only that she was afraid of the witch woman and her powers over her.  I never believed in witches, but oh how they worked their evil ways on my mother.
