Casey Clabough is the author of the creative nonfiction work _The Warrior's Path: Reflections Along an Ancient Route_, four scholarly books on southern and Appalachian writers, and a number of uncollected short stories, several of which are drawn from the early horror genre legacies of Lovecraft and Poe. He is most often indentified as a southern, Appalachian, and/or nature writer.

Clabough teaches at Lynchburg College in Virginia and serves as Literature Editor of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities' _Encyclopedia Virginia_. He also manages a farm in Appomattox County, Virginia, the chief exports of which are hay and organic vegetables.

Clabough earned an undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary before journeying south to pursue graduate study under the writer James Dickey at the University of South Carolina. Though Dickey would pass away during Clabough's first year in Columbia, Clabough would remain there to earn his PhD, writing a dissertation on Dickey's fiction that later would be published as his first book. Partially as a memorial to his old literary mentor, in 2010 Clabough assumed ownership and management of _The James Dickey Review_, a small literary journal founded in Atlanta in Dickey's honor in 1984.

Clabough currently is best known and acclaimed for his book _The Warrior's Path_, which the late Virginia Poet Laureate George Garrett likened to "the best work of John McPhee, Wendell Berry, Annie Dillard," and former North Carolina Poet Laureate Fred Chappell characterized as "solid, durable, and—entrancing." Cornell University writing professor Robert Morgan concluded that the book's magic "draws us deep into an intimacy with our geography and culture, with all the triumphs, failures, and contradictions we are heir to."
