Born in the Gold Coast (now Ghana), she married the scholar, playwright and diplomat J. B. Danquah and travelled with him in Europe and the USA. Before Ghana's independence, she servein parliament in 1952, the first woman to be elected a member of any African legislative assembly. She was editor of the Accra Evening News and, as "Marjorie Mensah", contributed a column to the West African Times. She was co-author of The Torn Veil and other stories (with Phebean Itayemi-Ogundipe, 1978).
