I am the thing that goes bump in the night. I am a liar, a protector...a killer... I am Noah Blake.
There is only one light in my darkness, one bright ray in the storm of my life. Lucia DeMarco. And I’ll do anything for her. Anything except show her who I really am...an assassin. Well, former assassin. I don’t really do that anymore...usually.

Od kiedy sześć lat temu w niewyjaśnionych okolicznościach zginął Rafe DeMarco, ukochany brat Lucii, zastępuje go najbliższy przyjaciel Noah Blake. W zapewnienie bezpieczeństwa dziewczynie, a także jej babci Nonny, zaangażowana jest cała ekipa jego agencji Blake Security. Ostatnio, gdy mała Lucia stała się piękną seksowną kobietą, braterska pomoc Noaha przybiera niepokojące formy. Irytujące? Zabawne? Podniecające? Lucia sama nie jest tego pewna. Jej głowę zaprząta jednak nie tylko Noah. Marzy o wyjaśnieniu zagadki śmierci brata.
Sensacyjny romans czy romantyczny thriller, na dodatek trochę humoru i nieźle sportretowane sylwetki niektórych bohaterów, także drugoplanowych, na czele z babcią Nonną. Początkowa lekko farsowa atmosfera ustępuje poczuciu grozy i niepewności, wiążącego się z zagadkową śmiercią Rafe’a oraz przede wszystkim z tajemniczym zachowaniem Noaha, ze sprzecznymi sygnałami, jakie odbiera Lucia mocno przez niego seksualnie pobudzona. Czytelnik wie od niej znacznie więcej na temat tego kim Noah był w przeszłości i dlaczego uważa, że nie jest jej wart. Lucia cały czas nękana jest nocnymi koszmarami, w których przeżywa utratę brata. Jednak pierwszy tom trylogii więcej sugeruje niż wyjaśnia.
